The transfer window deadline day thread 21:03 - Jan 27 with 27746 views | KeithHaynes | Could be the most interesting day in years. Clubs are playing some serious chess games. And agents are going to ensure it’s better than any soap opera.

The transfer window deadline day thread on 14:39 - Jan 30 by jojaca | I like Cooper for his work rate, but I see lot better players in his position who are technically more gifted. For me Cooper is just your average run of the mill type championship/league one player. I think our fans are slightly overrating him, Ntcham is more gifted player. [Post edited 30 Jan 2023 14:40]

Just my opinion, still early days for Cooper. 5 goals and 1 assist in 24 games for his position is below standard return for me. [Post edited 30 Jan 2023 16:53]

He hasn't been playing in his best position all the time though, he's been pushed wide. He needs to be through the middle or played with a co 10 in 4-3-2-1 like we used before, which worked and was discarded.

I would love to see us play with Piroe up front and Whitaker and Cooper behind.

I have already suggested that somewhere, said something like the two of them would give defences nightmares. Young, energetic, enthusiastic and skillful, a bit of pace too. If I were in charge it's what I'd do and I'd give it at least 10 games too, to see if it clicked.

With Piroe dropping deep occasionally and these two pushing on it would be impossible to cover.
The transfer window deadline day thread on 19:52 - Jan 30 with 2298 views | Dr_Winston | It's fairly obvious that in terms of technical ability Ntcham is way ahead of Cooper. Cooper certainly has his attributes, but he's much more of a terrier. Certainly better than League One on his showings thus far though.

Ntcham has been good off the bench but doesn't do it when he starts. besides, every team should have a terrier, someone who just doesn't stop being a pest until he runs out of steam...then bring Ntcham on! It's got to be better than being ineffectual, inoffensive and in decline! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The biggest failing we have in getting the best out of Ntcham is the way we play. If we're insistent on doing everything at half pace then he's going to look out of place. It just doesn't suit him. It's not a coincidence that he looks a lot better if he's coming off the bench when we're chasing a game. When we're forced to be on the front foot. If you think back most of his best performances as a starter have come in games where we've looked up for it from the kickoff. For example, he was immense in the first half against Millwall earlier in the season. We were 2-0 up at half time and cruising with him running the show. Second half we started sitting back and trying to play the same silly shit we usually do and he ended up getting subbed.

Oli Cooper is going to be playing international football soon. He is a cracking young player. Cooper and Cundle have impressed me this year. Oli will be a premiership player if he works hard for the Swans and sticks with us to develop. Rangers were after him not long ago aswell

Surely a players contribution shouldn't be about how many goals or assist they get but about whether with him playing, increases the teams overall average of goals and assists and defensively how many goals they concede. For example having Cooper covering for Manning creating chances for assists and goals for Manning and also reducing chances of counter attack goals by the opposition. He is now being targeted by opposition managers as a threat, he didn't have the red card challenge on him by mistake, I remember a similar challenge on the threat that was Celina by a Forest old head midfielder, he didn't get a red but took Celina out of the game and he was never the same player after. For me he is at the moment a must as a first team regular. Would also like to see Ntcham start but it is all about getting the team balance right at the start for the game in hand and being able to change things as opposition managers try and counteract our team.

Having seen Ntcham, if only for a short time, in the World Cup I'd like him playing central as a play maker. He looks like he'd offer the attack far more than Grimes or Allen.

Defensively Ntcham is not as good as Grimes, Allen or Fulton for that matter. Neither has he the stamina to fill the roll, our defence is not the best now and we would be overrun.

Spot on. If goals and assists were the main reason for selecting a player then Leon Britton would never have been selected. The reality being he was always the first name on the team sheet and made the team tick. On the rare occasions Leon was not on the field he was clearly missed [Post edited 31 Jan 2023 8:37]

But Leon Britton was defensive midfielder, Oli Cooper is attacking midfielder - Difference. I am not have a pop at Oli Cooper, I just think don't see anything special in him that's all. We have seen enough talent over our Premier League years to realize Oli Cooper is not fit enough to lase the boots of the likes of De Guzman or Glyfi who all played in a similar role.

A tad unfair to compare a kid to those two. In my humble opinion Oli Cooper will be a tremendous player and an asset to Swansea in the coming years. He's a work in progress but will start to really shine soon...

In some respects Leon Britton was limited in his attacking by the role he was asked to play I'm sure he could have been a bigger threat with his quality. As for Cooper nobody is saying he is at Leon's quality, he is inexperience at this level but is holding his own in the role he has been asked to play whether it is covering Mannings forward runs on the left, playing right wing or playing with different players alongside him further up the park, the likes of Obefemi, Ntcham, Cundle, Piroe and now Cullen. A bit of stability in his role and players around him might help him become a better player.

Bloody hell mate, give him a chance. Well there are quite a few people who see the things that others don't, like his work rate off the ball, chasing and harrying opposition players and making intelligent runs, these qualities that are vital in the make up of every football team.

I see all those qualities you mention, but they are not x factor qualities. When I first saw Flynn Downes, I knew that Flynn was destined for Premier League, but I don't see it with Oli Cooper or with the rest of the squad. Our main asset Piroe has gone backwards and regressed and I thought possibly Benda, but he's made a few basic mistakes and goals conceded where I thought he could have done better.

We don't need to be playing three defensive minded midfielders. If the need is there to protect the defence then something is going badly wrong.
