Burnley v Rochdale EFL Cup on 22:24 - Sep 21 with 4582 views | 442Dale | A good display for an hour but we looked really tired after it went to 2-1 and Stockdale probably should have changed things as soon as they equalised, especially in midfield. Before then we caused them real problems with Beesley again showing his potential against top level centre halves, if he’s here this time next year it’ll be be a good thing because it will mean we’ve been promoted.

Burnley v Rochdale EFL Cup on 22:52 - Sep 21 with 4339 views | Shun | A pleasing display, for the most part. Up until we scored I was so impressed. After that, Burnley stepped it up a bit and we looked exhausted. I was a bit disappointed with our crosses, they were mostly just floated in with height but no pace. Burnley would’ve been licking their lips at crosses like those, they could’ve dealt with them all night. The best cross of the night was low and at pace, from Kelly when he came on. Slightly disappointing we didn’t realise that earlier in the game but it’s hard to be critical tonight. I thought Dooley was really good as a destroyer tonight, and that’s not something I thought I’d ever type! His defensive work is so much more improved this season though. The fans were absolutely sensational. The players clearly appreciated it with their response at the end (as did Cornet for them!).

Agree with that Shun. Scoring just seemed to wake them up and they stepped up a couple of gears. Really proud tonight and some excellent individual performances, I thought O’Connell was immense and, as you say, Dooley was great too. Beesley is such a clever striker and it’s viral we keep hold of him. I was confused by the Burnley fans being in the same stand as us, I thought that wasn’t going to be the case. After Burnley equalised there was an altercation not far from me near the front where I think a Burnley fan was sat amongst the Dale fans.

Highlight of the night (after Bees goal) was Burnley fans with a very tentative 'your fecking shite' back at us after they'd gone 4-1 up and listened to the same song at them for an hour. The irony followed by the jeers in return.

Looking at what was on the Burnley site, they were closing certain blocks in that stand rather than moving them completely, and on the highlights you can see there’s a bigger gap than usual.

Thats exactly how I saw it, it was obvious at 1.1 we needed some fresh legs as we were being pegged back deeper and deeper, the 2 identical goals from opposite wings we quickly conceded from are just the type of ball into the box we cried out for all game. Great effort though from everyone and a good night all round apart from the result!!

Presumably the biggest nutters sit closest to the fence so moving them was job done

Burnley v Rochdale EFL Cup on 08:29 - Sep 22 with 3421 views | DaleiLama | Whilst not downplaying the fatigue factor, I also felt the half time Dyche hairdryer and going down changed things too. In the first half we played it around like a PL team on that pitch and some of their finishing was L2 level, although Lynch made some great saves and deserves plaudits for keeping us in it. They switched from sitting back in 2 banks to pressing us in possession more second half and at least 2 of their goals came from our errant passes under pressure. We can take great pride in the performance even if the result flattered them somewhat.

Burnley v Rochdale EFL Cup on 08:57 - Sep 22 with 3305 views | Huddersdale1 | I was in the James Hargreaves Stand, right on the half way line, with a Burnley mate of mine. There were a few other Dale fans around us too. A bit of banter, but no bother at all. Just to say the noise coming from the Dale fans in the away end sounded terrific, particularly the rendition of 'Up the Dale' at full time.
Burnley v Rochdale EFL Cup on 16:00 - Sep 22 with 2873 views | boromat | I'd just be repeating what others have said but to add.. Lynch, O'Connell, Morley and Beesley were incredible. O'Keefe and Odoh probably had one of their quietest games especially O'Keefe. Still, a great overall performance and effort walked away very proud of the performance but a bit frustrated the scoreline wasn't closer as I didn't think it reflected the game.

O’Keeffe had a really poor first half. To the extent that Stockdale had a quiet word when the ball was out of play at one point. His positioning was poor and they exploited us a lot down their left. He improved a lot in the second half. Odoh was excellent in the first 45, but did indeed tire like everyone else. Not sure about Cashman starting games, he’s a decent replacement off the bench for Odoh/Newby after an hour or so.

It's funny how everyone sees games differently as I thought O'Keeffe was very good first half and got forward very well and his link up play was decent too, and pretty anonymous second half. I was surprised Newby wasn't played at all, I probably would have started him and brought Odoh or Cashman on for him second half against more tired legs, im sure RS had his reasons though and he's not done too much wrong so far to question it.

He was fine in their half, but very rocky when defending. Something identified by Burnley quickly was that space he was leaving. The Burnley Express reporter also commented on it: “ Vydra fires wide from Westwood's pass, but again Burnley having joy behind the Dale right wing back. Four times they've got in behind him first half”

Burnley v Rochdale EFL Cup on 18:08 - Sep 22 with 2701 views | EllDale | I too spotted RS put an arm round O’Keeffe in the first half when the ball went out of play. At the time I thought it was more to do with the fact that he’d given the ball away cheaply on two or three occasions in our half which put us under pressure. Perhaps the lad was just a bit overawed? The manager also kept hold of the ball for around a minute on another occasion until things had calmed down and we’d regrouped after a spell of pressure.

Looking at that the corner for Burnley's 3rd should've been a goal kick. When Lynch saves from Cornet it looks like is ricochet's back off him for a goalkick. Small margins of luck.

There's an argument Morley fouled their player before our goal. Dyche seemed to think so. Swings and roundabouts.

Cornet does nothing to disprove the stereotype of footballers being a bit dim. Photos of him pointing at the Umbro badge, not club crest, went viral when he signed for Burnley. Now he follows that up by applauding Dale fans, genuinely thinking that end was all Burnley.

If young Cornet is a bit flaky, it's a shame that Burnley haven't gone the whole hog and given him the #99 shirt... :)
