Hooparoo's shout for manager 20:35 - Nov 15 with 15701 views | bosh67 | Roberto Di Matteo - what a great shout. Can't believe he hasn't been mentioned. Available as well. Almost 50% win rate at every club he has served. Okay, ex chelsea but got overlooked the last few times here. Great man manager and plays great football. Only problem I guess would be if he would take the step down to this division? Probably not but a great shout I thought.

What type of dog though?.. I dont want some sort of Pomeranian or poodle..

Hooparoo's shout for manager on 15:53 - Nov 18 by simmo | I'll add loyalty to the list of things we need in a manager then, so far we have; Bring success in the short term Think about the future Play attacking/exciting football Concentrate on not conceding and being solid defensively Be young, innovative and a fresh option for the long term Have loads of experience — make sure you’ve seen it all before Be able to improve what we’ve got Buy lots of replacements Don’t lose 3 games in a row Play to the strengths of everybody all at once Always play your best players Give youth a chance Be interesting Don't be TOO interesting Be a man manager Be authoritarian Get a dog Bark yourself Understand that the players are not good enough to do certain things Make sure things change Hire specialist coaches that are proven Be on the training pitch everyday Become good enough to move on to bigger and better things Be loyal |
Shouldn't they be hungry as well?! Although that would rule out Steve Bruce, which would be a shame. And what about the quality of their smile. That should be in the Top 3 of your list. Rodgers still got a bit of work to do in that respect though. Still, will anybodys smile compare to Ramseys?!

I think the dog's gone out the window. I don't think it was Harry's car window though. I think a cat is now on the cards. Maybe a Maine coon. They come acros as lovely and cuddly, but can turn on a whim.

Who the hell actually bets on the next QPR manager though? I imagine with the size of that market a sneaky 50p on Rogers from someone mucking about p*ssed at 2am on the night bus will cause the odds to plummet.

Nonsense. It's a scam. Bookies will use any bet at this stage to 'slash odds' because people will 'follow the money'. Mug's game. Will be gobsmacked if it's Rodgers. But pleased. He's a good manager, if a bit of a bell.

Hooparoo's shout for manager on 16:58 - Nov 18 by Mvpeter | I'll just amend this to reflect what people actually asked for so that their views aren't grossly misrepresented. Bring acceptable performances for the squad that you have in the short term Think about the future Play attacking/exciting football Not be the worst defensive unit in the division with the highest budget for defenders. Be young, innovative and a fresh option for the long term Have the bare minimum amount of experience required to transition to a senior team manager role. Be able to improve what we’ve got Buy lots of replacements (I had to leave that here just so I could point out how silly it is.) Pick a style and play players who are suited to that, tailor your transfer policy to this rather than 'seeing what we have.' Don't always play your worst players and don't always take off whoever is performing the best. Give youth a chance Understand that the players are not good enough to do certain things and don't put them in positions to fail. Hire coaches period. Be loyal to the needs of the club. |
Interestingly, this: 'Have the bare minimum amount of experience required to transition to a senior team manager role.' would have ruled out Rodgers getting the job at Watford. And Howe the job at Bournemouth. And Dyche the job at Watford, and arguably Burnley, come to that. And Monk at Swansea. And Hasselbaink at Burton (although much lower level, obviously, so not comparable). Moyes at Preston. Alex Neil at Hamilton (the jump from that to Norwich is also enormous, arguably far bigger than the jump Ramsey had to make). Hughton at Newcastle. Would it also rule out Karanka or Clement? I don't envy Hoos and Ferdinand. Going to be exceedingly tough. As for JFH. I suspect they DO want to speak to him. Why wouldn't they? But there's a lot of difference between wanting to speak to him and offering him the gig.

It ruled out none. By definition it could not have. Rodgers - long time coach then reserve team manager Howe - coach then reserve team manager. Dyche - assistant manager for two years. Monk - coach then interim manager which he succeeded in. Moyes - coach then assistant manager. Neil - coach then interim manager which he succeeded in. Hughton - I've no idea why he's on this list he coached and assistant managed for 15 years. How could Karanka or Clement possibly be ruled out by that statement? Come on now Antti.

Ramsey has managed in the Maltese league, was head coach of England U20s, assistant coach of Luton and the American club Charleston Battery. Regardless of the level, he has had plenty of managerial experience. Of course, you can't let facts get in the way of good quality bullsh!t. [Post edited 19 Nov 2015 14:07]

By the way, Monk was not a coach. He'd done some badges, but the club wanted him as part of the backroom staff and Laudrup refused. He was simply a senior pro. Moyes had a very short period as coach and assistant boss and was only 34. I just don't get what you mean by bare minimum really. Even Moyes said he didn't feel ready and very nearly turned it down. Howe managed the reserves part time for 18 months, then a short stint as youth boss before getting the main job. I mean all those I've listed are good managers, all started early etc. All were a 'punt'. Are we not allowed a 'punt'? Especially as there are no sure things in football. 99% of managers have failures.

Well it could be seen as that but I was just adapting the list given before where Simmo was saying that fans expect this really young fresh manager who also must have tons of experience at this level. That's not necessary, of course it must be a step up but it just needs to be a reasonable step up. I'd say the amount of experience varies by club but for us I'd like someone with a year working in senior football at least. Possibly a coach but an assistant manager is obviously better. Same as any apprenticeship. I see youth football as a separate entity with different skills and personalities required and that spending a long career in it will inhibit your ability to adapt to the senior side and vice versa. Imagine Warnock trying to teach some 14 year olds. I'd love to see that actually.

It's 2015 and you want to bring up the MALTESE league experience from 1988, his complete failure as a youth coach of the England U20's in 1999, his two months as an assistant coach for a luton team being relegated in 2000 and his most recent and only success, 3rd division american club Charleston Battery ELEVEN YEARS ago. That is not plenty of managerial experience. That is not the minimum required to be manager of a premier league team nor a championship team and so it proved.

What he meant was Ramsey wasn't experienced enough for the job. You've caught him out with some less experienced examples who went on to be a success. As you've got more chance of flying to Friday's match in a hot air balloon than Petey admitting that I'd settle in for a long afternoon of pedantry if I were you.

I'm sure I read before I posted Garry was a coach but it seems he was just doing U21 coaching as part of his badges. Apologies Moyes may have had a short period in each but at each stage his employer thought him capable for the next reasonable step up. 'Even Moyes said he didn't feel ready and very nearly turned it down. ' Exactly because even then it is risky. But that's even then. Howe managed the reserves and coached the first team for just under 2 years.
