Best Frontmen of All Time.. on 22:07 - Jul 16 by Lblock
I'm not really a huge "front man of bands" type but I'd nominate
Liam Gallagher - total to$$er but at their height he was the man Ian Brown - mystique and legend maintained for 25 years (and he cant really sing) Elvis - changed music Maxwell - many wont of heard of him but to this day I've never seen anyone as cool as fcuk on the stage at the Royal Albert Hall and have the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand with some proper fit ladies fighting to get on stage with him. Top soul voice too.
Normal service with bass, bleeps, hooks and rhythms will be resumed in the morning.
(Sorry!)
Maxwell at the Jazz Cafe for his UK debut; I was trying to get on the stage to sleep with him! Coolest man I've ever seen.
Prince was great, as was James Brown (despite being pretty old), David Byrne.

We all tried to lived the rock star's life in the 90s .. Liam Gallagher epitomised the council estate lad living it large.
Whose your favorite DJ LBlock?

This should be a style over substance discussion. Thus, James Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jagger, Ozzy, Iggy, George Clinton, Harvey, Gabriel, Dave Lee Roth, John Lydon, Freddie, Byrne, Vedder, Zac de la Rocha, Eminem to Snoop Dog.
Then you get to the writer/player frontmen. Fogerty, Holder, Lynott, Cobain, Bradfield, Grohl etc

Dave Grohl coming back on stage after just breaking his leg showed what it takes to be rock star front man material. Shame he had to cancel the other gigs.

Careful. You're moving into Barlow, Goss, Styles territory....

For me (just based on who I have seen live) it would have to be:-
Robert Plant - his voice way back was great Freddie - Wembley was a truly fantastic performance Paul Rogers - at 18/19 when I saw him with Free his vocals live were out of this world
PS also like to mention Ozzie - saw him twice and although his voice was not great he did put on a great show

Who I have seen in the flesh, Morrissey Prince Roger Daltrey Jack White Michael Stipe
Not in the flesh, Steve Marriott Blind Willie Johnson Otis Redding James Brown Michael McDonald
Jack White is an interesting one. I saw them headline Reading in 2004, and he basically didn't move and intentionally sang out of key. Never bothered with any of his stuff again

Handed out tickets for a uk subs gig in the late 70's in Camden (they must have been signed up to Arista - not sure) - met Charlie Harper - brilliant front man (slightly drunk!)

Not much to go on from me, but from what I've seen...
Fela Kuti - he had about 30 people on stage but he was in complete control, like a 30s bandleader. 100% the centre of attention.
Neville Staples of the Specials. While Terry Hall was a bit of a blank, he was full of fun and energy even in front of a crowd that started off indifferent - they were third on the bill. They weren't by the end, great entertainment.
I will get slated for this, but Bono. Again, U2 were only the support when I first saw them, but he carried on like he was headlining in front of 80,000. Complete self-confidence and charisma.
