So much better without Adel 19:38 - Mar 9 with 7440 viewsHayesender

Hate to say it cause he's been a joy to watch when on form, but we look a much better TEAM without him.

Are his days with us numbered?

Adel has so much natural ability but doesn't apply it correctly. Until he learns to be a team player he will not fulfill his potential.

Summed up perfectly.
Almost s*it myself when I seen the team sheet yesterday.
How wrong was I?

So much better without Adel on 08:24 - Mar 10 by Ranger78

I'm finding it hard to join this
debate. I actually can't believe that all of a sudden Adel is being questioned.

For me without any doubt, he is our best player, he has played more games for us than anyone in the squad and he has improved his work rate beyond comprehension.. (When you consider the early days). Anyone remember Chelsea away thus year???

Hoilett and Townsend were great today but Adel is still our most creative player, I am sure Remy will score more goals with Him in the team.

There is a big part for him to play... It's down to the manager to find the right position and get the best out of his players. Surely if Harry is as good a manager as he thinks, then he can make it work for Adel.

As for the comparisons with him playing or Mackie playing?????? I can't believe what I'm reading..... If anyone wants Mackie in the the team over Adel then I'm lost.... we must be watching different sports???

I'm not anti Mackie as a man, he tries his guts out and loves this club.. fair play to him but he's Rubbish..... fact!

This is the Premier League? He should have scored today, no debate in my opinion but missing chances happens. The real incident that summed up his ability was when he was chasing down the line a ball that had come over the top... He failed to control it ( a basic requirement for any professional footballer) and then he fell over!

It's not Mackie's fault he gets picked but how anyone could suggest he is more worthy of a place in the team than Adel is beyond me.

Couldnt agree more.

Personally, playing as we did yesterday, scoring 3,without Adel, was a huge positive. Until recently,so much of our attacking ideas and work has gone through AT,and he has never hid, always showing, always trying to make things happen. Too much responsability for him,and unfair to blame our attacking shortcomings on him. The only way we are going to survive is by scoring, and to be in position we are in now, with Adel,Zamora,Hoillett,Townsend,Remy<Boothroyd, and sometime Mackie, with even Samba a huge threat in the air,all looking dangerous,i would rather have our personnel than any others of the teams around us.

Whether he should start away to Villa,im really not sure, but to have the options we have atm can only be a positive.

Its not Adel´s fault its been circumstance, so Arry made the team play through Adel too much.
Hoillet back fit and Townsends signing has given us other options that change the whole look of the team.

I hope we can find a system to play as a whole team with Adel in it, love the guy and hope he knows what we think of him.
He is premiership class, no matter anyone says but just needs to stop doing so much trickery and needs a team around him that are a threat as well to draw players away from him or open the game up for him and others.

Adel should remain as the pinnacle of the team, right up front, with Remy playing off him. The important thing though is for passes to come to his feet not head, in the same way Gallen used to play. Both were/are excellent at shielding the ball, but Taarabt must get in and around the penalty area where he was devastating during the Championship season. Having the likes of Townshend and Hoilett on the wings cutting in gives him the chance to make some space for them. Adel has not been responsible for poor performances this season, he wasn't responsible for numerous goalkeeping errors, bad making, Bosingwa's strops, M'bia and Derry's lack of mobility or SWP's inability to trap a wet bag of cement. However he has been directly responsible for 50% of our wins. FACT. But he needs to get in amongst the opposition defenders as he is no midfielder. And the other thing that he needs to learn is to get his balance right when shooting, take a lesson of Modric on how he gets his body compact when shooting.

First off the bench to relieve Zamora IMO.

Up until recently he was the focal point of our attack; stopping us was simple, you just put two men on him and forced him into areas he couldn't hurt you. Now he's not there, and we have other attacking players we give teams more problems. No reason to think he can't come back into a better side and improve us further IMHO.

Neil Warnock on Goals on Sunday:

"He's left Taarabt out. Its not a shock to me knowing Harry as i do. He was the main goalscoring threat, but now that they've got Remy I don't see him getting much of a look in'

I think we should sell him to Real Madrid to play alongside Ronaldo, or Man Utd to play with RVP/Rooney or even PSG.....collect at least at least £15, 000, 000 from the sale & clear some of our debt.

Wouldn't have fitted into what was effectively a 424 yesterday, would have slowed everything down.Don't have a pop at Mackie for missing a chance,at least he got into a position to score when not fully warmed up.Adel will get his chance again when Harry's tailoring of the side to suit the opposition calls for a more cerebral approach.

IMHO.

Adel always seems to be a scapegoat... The simple reason we are better if confidence from the Dubai trip and remy and zamoras options upfront.

If taarabt has two people to pass too nested of none (as has been the case all season) we will benefit...

He looks class with remy.. Look at west ham... Have not played together since once??

Therein lies the problem; too often he doesn't pass even if there are better options.

The Morrocco manager was spot on.

Or are you of the Mackie is good because he runs around a lot variety?

He fukkin isn't. And as long as I say he isn't then there is doubt.

And thats the thing

So many on here are passionate about Adel and see him through rose tinted specs.

We owe him a lot for his part in our last 2 seasons BUT he is not our 'saviour', he is not 'undroppable' and his flaws often outweigh his strengths.

If he doesn't throw a 'stroppy' he will have a part top play over the coming weeks. But its a team game and no one is bigger than the team.

I would love to see him back at his best, playing like he did in our promotion year but I don't think I will. And I am pretty sure he will be off in the summer, come what may. Then, just like when Warnock left, I will be grateful for all he did for us but of course that was his job and he was/is paid well for it

Nice to see a balanced view at last!

Discounting yesterday, we scored 1 poxy goal in our previous 6 home league games. And no, he wasn't involved in that goal either.

Taarabt played every single minute of those 6 home games. Just shy of 600 minutes of football. At home.

All this talk about 'we have to play Taarabt at home', 'he's a home player', 'we would still have won with him'....laughable!

He needs to lose half a stone, find a extra yard of pace, improve his shooting, become less predictable, run beyond defenders and most of all to stop listening to embarressing hero worship he receives from some R's supporters. Then he might become the premiership player that many think he already is.

I'd also wager he wasn't on the bench yesterday due to some sulky escapade because that's the kind of guy he is.

ps. before I get the '2 wins and now this' stick from the Adel fanclub members, I did start a thread saying pretty much the same thing 2 days before the Southampton game.

pps. I hope he stays with us if we go down though.

He cost us the win against Norwich, Reading and was a one man army giving the lead to Man U. I'm sure he wouldn't get into top Rangers 11. The number 10 shirt still belongs to Stan or Rodney. Then we have Roy W and Stainrod. For me Adel doesn't get in front of any of them.

Much as I like Taraabt it must be soul destroying making runs knowing there is little chance he will make the pass, it might well explain why the rest look so static when he plays.

His best period was when he had Routledge making runs, knowing the pass could come to something. Suspect AT would be superb playing at a top European club and we would be a much better team for it

We might have scored if we'd had other players with him who were intelligent enough to make runs.... Other than Jamie Makie, who, in terms of ability and footballing know how has to be in the bottom 10 players in the whole league!

Exactly why he'll set plenty up for Remy if they play in the same team.

Interesting thread.

I think it's easy to forget he's been dropped by a couple of managers only to come back into a struggling team and improved performances.

I feel a bit sorry for him because most of the games he's played in this season we've either only had one striker on the pitch in the semi-fit Zamora(or sometimes Mackie) and other times where we haven't played a striker at all or he has been the lone man upfront himself.

I do think he would create a lot more playing with both Remy and Zamora. Both make intelligent runs and Adel is the kind of player that can pick those runs out. We still lack that creativity. Personally I would like to see him on the left where he did most of his damage in the Championship. With Remy and Zamora dragging defenders around it would allow him to either play them in down the channels or give him the opportunity to cut in onto his right foot and take the shots on. He's still the most talented player in our squad and I think Remy, Zamora and Adel would really give defences something to think about.

I think Hoilett is playing alot free-er if that's a good description i think Townsend too is creative ....we had 15 attempts on goal today...8 on target, whether they're shots from outside the box doesn't matter imo we were playing the ball from side to side and getting crosses into BZ. We flow as a team better without AT, it is a shame with what Adel has done for us almost single handedly getting us promoted and everything, but i think we play better and more direct without him.......which is what we need imo

No I cant agree with this. I have always thought that Adel has the potential to be a world class player, provided he was playing in a team with similar class to himself. It seems to me that the R's have recently improved due to the aquisitions from Spurs. He must be given his chance to play in the same team as Remy,Townsend & perhaps Jenas.I just dont get this thing that somehow our team can be better without the best player we have had over the past 2/3 seasons ,its just not logical. It is also very shallow to suddenly suggest that he is surplus to our requirements just because we have a couple of wins.
We need all the troops we can muster to get us another 15 or so points & Adel will hopefully play his part.

At my age I should not be doing this!

I agree 100%.

He was great for us in the Championship, in fact amazing and without him we would not have been promoted. same can be said about Warnock.

But just like Warnock he is not really Premiership quality.

I am not an 'Adel' knocker but the simple fact is that we are a far better 'team' without him. He may well still play a part in our survival but from the subs bench not from the staring 11.

The Premiership takes no prisoners. Time to move on

Agree he has been and is our most skillful player Bill, but i just think the prem is about moving the ball quickly for the best results, and AT does like to take it and slow it down and keep possession which is all good if we're winning but just means we play alot in front of oppo defences, and they get themselves set.
At the moment i think Jnr & Andros are our best bet as wingers and playing 2 up front gives us a lot more threat too, so where to play him ...cm?..Or do we need a couple of scrappers in there like Mbia & and Park?
0
So much better without Adel on 22:01 - Mar 10 with 805 viewsdaveB

some of the comments about Adel not being good enough for the prem and the joy some are taking in him not playing is incredible, i do wonder about some of our supporters at time.

For me he's our player of the season, when he's had players around him in the final third he's created and scored goals but too often he's been left up front on his own with no support and too much to do. I still think him and Remy is a promising partnership but Redknapp doesn't really have time to work on that so has gone with Zamora which is fair enough.

If we are playing a 4-4-2 with a target man as we did yesterday then we have no place for him in the team, still playing that way yesterday we were out of ideas in the second half before Townsends screamer so i still think it's worth having him on the bench as an option.

So much better without Adel on 23:14 - Mar 10 with 768 viewsSpiritofGregory

Problem with Adel is that he is too stubborn. He will never get the big move he craves until he adapts his game and becomes a team player. Skill and technique is not enough you must also have a work ethic - the team comes first not the individual and sadly in Adel's world it's all about him.

Yes, he was great in the championship but that was a lower level and in the Premiership, he can't produce the same and becomes a luxury we can ill afford.

The team is clearly clicking without him, it would be madness to change a winning formula.

So much better without Adel on 19:57 - Mar 9 by Antti_Heinola

I think if Adel had played today the result would have been much the same to be honest. The improvement is a lot down to Remy playing and us actually having a cutting edge up front with 2 up top rather than none or one. Plus obviously they were playing with more confidence today after finally getting a win under their belts.

Agree the zero strikers weren't good for goal difference. Agree about Remy but also a number of players have stepped up: Townsend, Mbia, Boswinga, Samba and a few others. Feel a little sorry for Onuha but it means we've got some cover.
