Very proud to be voted Planet Swans Poster of the Year 2017 by my fellow posters. Especially on a site that nearly had 20 million impressions last year.

Lisa.
I was fearful we didn't yuan our first half performance into goals.

Liverpool have been in fantastic form and they will admit to have been lucky tonight.

I ll be thinking monk will do what is needed regarding players.

we should have been 1 or even 2 up at half time.

But even then they needed a fortunate goal.

And yes - we need 2 strikers. But January was probably not the time to get them given we were already safe (pretty much).

I also think we need a replacement for Dyer (urgently) and probably another winger as well.

But all the 'x' is crap, 'y' is s**t stuff is just insane.

Excellent first half. High tempo, good pressurising and looked to get the ball moving. Disappointing second half. Stopped doing all the things we did so well.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Agree with all of that. Although I'd like to single a player out if I may. Jack Cork. He's going to be immense for us.

"They're going for the Champions League, so a loss is ok" is a bit of a kop out when discussing a defeat though.

However good the first half was, it was completely irrelevant, as soon as the second half st arted Brendan changed it, we failed to adapt, and were never going to get anything out of the game unless it had finished 0-0.

Alas, it's nice to see progress, at least we're tactically sharp for 45 minutes now.

Got that end of season feel about it now, I can't see any of them being arsed about our 'greatest ever points' total.

I didn't say that though. I just said that the reaction from some on here beggars belief given that performance.

And I've never understood why the second half is more relevant that the first.

Brendan couldn't cope with our tactics and set up first half while it was going on either despite knowing our formation and our team before the match and according to many on here he's a tactical genius. He was just able to adapt in the half time break. We didn't have the luxury of a 15 minute break to counter his changes. Also, just sometimes, you have to admit that a team with their players also getting the luck is likely to win. As I said, some luck our way and we may well have won.

You could equally say that Liverpool were only tactically sharp for 45 minutes as well.

And I think we'll beat 47 points.

I am not even remotely placing blame here, but I have no idea why Monk did not bring on fresh legs around the hour mark instead of waiting until we were down a goal and some players obviously burnt out.

I would have loved to see Montero and Emnes on much sooner. And Gylfi playing where he's most comfortable, and most productive.

Regarding "the diamond" and player selection, it seems like Monk's in the middle of a brain freeze.

All in all, we did alright against the form team in the Premier League. Now, with 5 or 6 less daunting opponents coming up, I'm hoping for some much needed changes.

p.s. Credit to Amat for his good work today.

I don't care. I'm old. I don't have to.

Siggy has been one of the biggest disappointments for me this season probably because of high expectations. Dead ball situations he is lethal, but not seen enough attempts on goal from him in open play like the goal he produced at Blackburn in the cup. But as a team are we getting the best from him?

Needs to be in the hole behind the striker.

He's not there when we use the diamond or 4-3-3. Way too wide and deep to be effective tonight.

If we're going to use that formation, sig doesn't really fit. He ends up almost wholly ineffectual. I'm tamping about that result. We needed a change on 55. It was obvious Liverpool had changed shape and pressed higher. We had to do something to stretch them and unsettle them, and we did f##k all. After such a great first half where we out-thought them. I'm irritated. Especially with their spawny goal. Fair play to oytstandun, he's a lucky git.

I think it probably was Phil. But only real choice was Montero from the bench and I thought he did sod all when he came on. His end product was awful (obviously not as bad as Dyer who couldn't get to the bit where he needed an end product).

I understand the frustration and agree with it to some extent, but if you're going to criticise tactical awareness then Brodge knew exactly what formation we were going to play (he said so in the pre match interview) and still couldn't do anything about it in the first half. Monk got the first half spot on. If we had scored the goal or two our dominance deserved then I think we could have handled them second half and job done. Not worked out that way though unfortunately.

TBH - we could still be playing and neither side wold have scored unless it was from a fluke.
Great first half but with no end product.
A very very tired second half performance with Monk making his customary ineffectual substitutions too late and maybe not the right personnel coming off.
Stirling is a disgrace.

Expecting a player to perform shit miracles two games running when brought on for only 17 minutes is bonkers (has 73 replaced the magical 60 now?). We improved massively when he came on at Spurs, I don't see the logic in keeping him on the bench until it's too late.

There were plenty of tactical changes that could have been made, bringing Montero was just the most obvious.
WTF Siggy is doing out wide is beyond me.
As for scoring a couple in the first half - I think we'd still be nil if the game had gone on until midnight.

Let's hear these 'plenty of tactical changes' then. Or are they just empty words with nothing to back them up?

As for nil until midnight, Mignolet had to make two very good saves in the first half, Skrtel cleared Gomis' header off the line and Shelvey's shot from the corner looked like it was on it's way in before the deflection. Meanwhile Liverpool's best chance was a clearance hitting Henderson in his face (which was his best contribution all night. MOM my f*cking arse)

You seem to be getting desperate in your attempts to denigrate Monk. Whatever your feelings on the diamond formation, the first 45 minutes last night was classic Swans. Played through their high pressing tactics with quick passes, then moving the ball forward quickly to take advantage of their midfield being upfield, getting the ball back quickly when it was lost (JJS and Cork excelled at this) and restricting them to long-range efforts.

If we had a striker in form or a bit of luck, we'd have gone in ahead at half-time and who knows? As it was, an experienced manager tweaked his (vastly more expensive and talented) team and neutralised us, while our more inexperienced manager couldn't respond. It's an area where Monk needs to improve and I think he knows it. Doesn't invalidate the first-half performance for any but the one-eyed.

Our January business has effectively replaced Britton and Rangel, both of whom now offer valuable squad cover. Bring in a new left-back and at least one striker in the summer and we're in business. A new winger for Dyer would be nice and if we're sticking with this formation, a better version of Emnes, who can play at the point of the diamond or out wide. Considering the loss of Bony, most journalists and pundits are impressed by how Monk has prevented us from slipping down the league, seems only some of our fans are unconvinced.

You know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants don't help.

Powerful stuff that will lead to a rebuke Id suggest.

Its turned out Gomis has been a poor acquisition and our wide men are truly hopeless at crossing. It has to be the reason why Monk has chosen his formation as we have limited players.

The criticism I have is relying on simply one striker to do the job.

Harking back, Routledge ,lauded by some, to me is absolutely anonymous and his long term contract was a poor decision. Dyer is shot and MONTERO has no end product so plenty to work on over the summer. These are our problems

Cork has been a triffic buy as has Naughton and FAB so not all bad

I find it really difficult to understand how people can get quite so negative after that game.

We played really, really well in the first half - Gary Neville described it as the best he has seen anyone set up against Liverpool this season (or during their run at least when they switched to this system).

We dropped off in the second half and became more sloppy at times, but ultimately a team of multi million pound players beat us thanks to a lucky goal. If we had seen the luck reversed then Siggy's or Jonjo's would have gone in in the first half and their goal would have deflected wide.

This is a team that is 50:50 for finishing in the Champion's League (I think they may well beat Man Utd at theirs), being forced to try to keep it down in the corner for the final 5 minutes and irrespective of anything Rodgers may say, the game could have gone either way.

Gomis played the best I've seen him. Thought Ki had a quiet game by his standards, and for me, Montero added little when he came on - he often has poor final product.

We are a good mid table team, and therefore, are likely to lose to the top 4 or 5. The fact that we haven't on a few occasions this season shows we are becoming an upper mid table team rather than a lower mid table team - people seem genuinely p**sed off that we are not getting results that would see us compete for the Top 4 as well. We also didn't resort at any point to the 'long ball' game - we tried to keep possession and play the ball up - we didn't manage it at times because we don't have a team of £20m players.

A few more performances like that and we'll get to 50 points and 8th or 9th which will be brilliant. Then we strengthen again and see what happens next season.

Agree with all that apart from Jeff. He is a form player and he needs game time which he did not get last night. The substitution was too late and he could not get into the game. Routs put a good shift in for me so maybe we can start with both against the so called 'lesser' teams. I suspect we will see a much improved Montero then.
Marvin should be given a run out as well.
