the next tweet goes on to say that they may pull the plug after the carroll deal. that said, there were no midfielders to bring on yesterday. sure, there's richards and sheehan, but nobody would feel comfortable with either of them on. the club would be naive to think that there will be too many MFs when Fulton and Leon are back.

sign him up.

Jesus wept , Carroll is no DM! If we don't get this lad it will be a failure we may regret, especially with Leon's injury taking longer than expected to clear up. If he has another delay we're f*cked.

The article basically says that whilst Marseille, Fiorentina and PSG have been linked with Stambouli, the players father says that Stambouli's "dream" is Swansea.

Seems Marseilles sacked his dad a couple of years ago. He's coming here alright I think

I firmly believe that Stambouli is now dead in the water. Looks like we have now settled on Carroll after we have looked at Cork and Stambouli......................it could work well for us but certainly stinks as the cheap option.

We WILL regret it if we don't get the required DM player we need.

We signed Tom Carroll he maybe what we need I am guessing that very few who have openly slated him on here have actually seen him play yet.

Carroll is not a DM. He is deep lying passing midfielder and is completely different to Stambouli or Cork. If we try playing him in that position we will get creamed and it would be totally unfair on the lad we would be better off playing Ki in that position. Carroll may turn out to be very good signing but not as tackling midfielder who can break up play.

I guess he two signings planned now are Barrow (as the forward) and Kolodziejczak as the left-back / CB.

We will see tomorrow if Carroll is played as a CDM and if he has the ability to challenge Leon / Ki for the position this season.

Obviously the lad has talent but if we are going to rely on the lad to play the quarter back role with short simple passing when w already have Leon in that position then its not going to work out in my eyes. If you are not physically ready at a young age then you will struggle, Leon is slight but has the nous with all those years behind him......................Carrol sat in the holding midfield role could be catastrophic for the team and also the young lad.

Leon is a holding midfielder and not a enforcer of a DM, seems that Carroll is the same mould as Leon but needs to be played further forward due to his age and lack of strength. We need another midfielder who is a true DM and can put his foot in and be strong............the fact that Stambouli can do this aswell as play makes him 100% suitable for us.

He will not have the ability to challenge in next 12 months.

If he was able to play premier league football week in and week out then surely Spurs would not have loaned him out. He is obviously on the fence as being a premier league player and Spurs want to loan him out to see if he can sink or swim....................Swansea have taken that gamble.

Possibly Magic, but wasn't Caulker in a similar position a few years ago?

I have never seen Stambouli play he maybe totally overrated or he maybe just what we need.
That's my point though Very few on here would have seen him or Tom Carroll play yet 1 gets praise heaped on them, and the other gets slated when in reality most have no idea how good or bad they actually are.

Ability is not the issue. They're both completely different types of player. I've nothing against signing Carroll on loan to give us cover but Stambouli is a bona fide CDM. Carroll isn't .

Fair comment.

Caulker though, even at his tender age when he joined us was physically ready for the challenge to the position he was going to play.

I have not read anything with regards to him not coming but its just my view that I believe he wont come.

Think we have made the correct noises for getting a DM player but I think we have settled on Carroll, who without question is a cheaper option.

I don't violently disagree but mate, Leon was a winger. Monk knows what he wants, and I would say Leon is more of a receiver distributor than a tackling DM like Makelele or Viera anyway, so lets see where we go with it all after next Monday.

Someone with serious positional discipline and a good engine seems more of an issue to me. Carroll might well be that. I don't know. Shelvey and Ki sure as sh1te aren't.

We have just spent 7 million on a centre half though who will be on a big wage.

Fabianski,Sigurdsson and Gomes will have all been on hefty wages. / signing on fees
Montero 4 million plus a fair wage.

Whilst I agree we do need a specialist DM our budget will only go so far.
We also have the expansion to think about that's why your probably right with the assumption that Stambouli will not be signing for us this window.
