3 weeks to go to the election. I have barely seen any posters and always recollect canvassers in local high streets in the past. Despite the leaders debate found this coverage very low key and less coverage on social media. When is Kim Kardashian going to break the internet again?

I have to agree, one of the most apathetic ever. How on earth do they expect there to be a good turnout when they are all utterly appalling? Someone will win it on one of the lowest turnouts ever which will be completely unrepresentative and for once, I won't blame people for not bothering.

All of the parties are playing the middle ground with their policies. I did one of those online surveys (where you just see the policies, not the party) and they were all the same. Nothing stood out to me as being obviously left, centre or right.

Result?... almost equal Labour and Conservative and a dollop of LibDem. Either the survey isn't very good or it truely shows there's no difference between any of them.

No real difference is there, all similar school ties etc these days.

The main thing which might shake it up a bit is if SNP do well and go into Coalition with Labour.
This may stir things a bit but not till AFTER the election.
As for my MP, 50% comfy Tory area as it has been for donkeys.
Whoever I vote for will make no difference, and this is the case for most of the country as it's only ever a few marginal seats here and there which shift a bit.
Apart from as I say the SNP

I'm torn. On one hand I believe everyone should vote, however I don't really agree with any of the parties strongly enough to vote for them.

My constituency is a guaranteed Tory seat now that the LibDem vote has collapsed, so it doesn't really matter anyway.

I'm seriously considering going to vote and writing "None of the above" on the voting sheet. if enough people deliberately spoilt their forms like that it might make the parties think - but them again probably wouldn't.

We have to vote over here. Its against the law not to. You get fined if you don't turn up unless you have a good reason or have voted before because of travel etc.I can feel you all hunching your shoulders and gritting your teeth with shouts of 'Never over here. Its my right not to vote'. I call bullshit.
Fair enough I used to have the hump about it when I first came over and felt exactly that. But now I can see why they do it .Its to stop the 'apathy' creeping in. For every one voter who says 'I'm not voting because there's no one worth my vote or all party's are the same ' there's about 50 who just can't be arsed to get their arses off the couch. And that's from someone who used to be one of those 50 but is honest about it.
It's only law over here to turn up get registered and then get my voting slip.If I want to exercise my freedom of choice I can do it then and screw up the slip ,walk out ,or write any message on the slip put it in the ballot then walk out.

That's interesting. Do you live in a marginal by any chance?

I do and the Tories in particular have chucked a bucket of cash at the job. Posters, door to door blue rinse brigade, leaflets, the lot.

The tories want to get rid of Cable from your area I reckon Aged. Just to pile more misery on the lib-dems.
Doesn't matter who you vote for, you're not going to get what you want as no single party is going to end up winning. So if you have no chance of winning, well, what's the point?

You're spot on there Eccles. Also Mary McLeod has a slim majority to protect against Ruth Cadbury in Brentford and Isleworth.

For me it's been an interesting election, because there has been some (exaggerated but some none the less) leverage from the minor parties.

I'm an optimist though. I think the human race will get it in the end (and Rangers will win the cup shortly afterwards).

I do think people should vote but I also believe they have the right to not vote if that is what they choose. Seems that is an option over there but at leat you encourage people to make the effort.

that's not optimism, that's living in cloud cuckoo land. Got more chance of all the parties explaining how they intend to fund all the things they're promising, than us winning the cup!

But do we really want the election to be decided by people who know nothing about the candidates, and who don't care? The candidate first on the ballot paper would IMO have a big advantage.

People who don't vote are really saying they'd be happy with a return to absolute monarchy. Maybe some would argue that it wouldn't be too bad with Liz, but imagine Charlie at the helm... Democracy may be flawed, but it's probably the best system out there (however, may I tempt you with a benevolent left wing dictatorship?)

Its not just a big X over here. You have a list of the candidates and you put a '1' next to your favourite then a '2' next to your next favourite and so on. (proportional representation..I think).
The people who have no clue are more likely to screw up their paper and walk out.As will the people who are exercising their right not to vote. I don't know whats better the system we've got over here or the 'first past the post ' we have back home but I've definitely come round to the idea that we over here are 'persuaded 'to get off our arses and get down the polling station

Well, it was a joke, but now I've slept on it, I quite like the argument. "If you don't vote, you may as we'll have the queen back running things." Maybe it should be an option on the paper.

So in reply, I agree, absolute nonsense...

The old style of electioneering is dead.TV and tabloid/broadsheet antics are the province of the dinosaur,it's all internet now. It's the modern version of the Gutenberg and Caxton printing presses that freed the populace from the tyrrany of vested interests. The lack of posters or canvassers ain't going to stop me from lurching down to the polling booth,in fact witnessing all this bullying and propaganda on the traditional media has made me more determined than ever to vote for the first time in 30 years.

People who don't vote should never complain about the country. It is the duty of every person to have a say in it. I chat with a bloke at the pub who always says he never votes 'no point", yet every other conversation is about the state of the country.

Whatever your political view, one thing should worry everyone after last nights debate and that is Nichola Sturgeon bossed Ed Miliband and having her and her Scottish lot in our parliament would be a disaster for our country.

I think that the answer is that the poisoned little soap dodger would bring down the economies of Scotland, England, Wales and NI whether individually or grouped together as either the UK or as Great Britain.

Well at least the vast majority on here have a choice.

This is what we've got on offer!

John Bercow (non aligned speaker seeking re-election).
Dave Fowler (UKIP)
Alan Francis (Green Party)
Colin Dale (Monster Raving Looney Party)

This is because some unwritten rule that the main parties won't stand against the incumbent speaker.

Which means that if Bercow gets re-elected we have no representation in Parliament as the speaker isn't allowed to vote.

Democracy my arse!
