I once told Phil Jupitus 'Orient are flipping sh1t mate'. He said ' I don't support Orient'. Oh, I got him mixed up with Bob Mills. I should have retorted 'it was a statement of fact Phil' but I was too p1ssed and I thought he was Bob Mills.

I didn't realise you'd asked him that? Braver man than me. I was surprised how much I liked Ross Kemp TBH, top fella.

I regretted it immediately. Wouldn't do it again.

I would also recall the Gene Simmons story here, but that's more a 'have you ever had an incredibly uncomfortable experience with a mental celebrity' tale.

Not me and not annoyed really but an old fella “Barry” I know from the local, used to be a sound engineer at the BBC. I got chatting to him once about Guitars he told me a story. Apparently one afternoon in the 90s he was setting up one of the studios for a music session and after finishing he was chatting to some bloke in the lift about the set and that it was for a popular band but he couldn’t remember which one, to which the bloke said it’s Oasis. In response old Barry replied “Oh Oasis, that band that play the same song every time but change the words about” They guy laughed.

A couple of days later Barry realized the bloke in the lift was in fact, Noel Gallagher.

On the subject of Noel Gallagher, a mate of mine is a friend of a friend of one of the High Flying Birds. They did a video shoot a while ago where Noel would be filmed from opposite a tower block - the idea was he would be filmed walking in the front of the building, then disappear off camera as he walked down the corridor inside - then go into an empty flat the producers had rented for the day. At that moment, the camera would find him from opposite, and he'd walk forward to the window and start miming.

Take One, off they go - Noel goes in the front of the block, disappears on cue - then re-appears on camera a moment later walking into the flat next door, striding into the front room where some unsuspecting family is about to have their dinner.

I was at Turnmills in around 2000-2001 and spotted Jo Guest (page 3 model, Blur video etc - ok, not that famous...). Me and my mate went up to her and asked her for a photo. She went to pose with us so we could get a photo with her, but i hilariously passed her my camera (pre-smart-phone days kids!) and asked her to take a photo of me and my mate. She looked a bit confused, then annoyed, then passed me back my camera and flounced off.

Clapham Junction en route to Brighton from Shepherds Bush. In winter clothes and with a rucksack I sprint from platform 2 to platform 13 catching the connecting train with seconds to spare. There's one seat available. I take my coat off and put my gear on the luggage rack. A day spent drinking and the platform to platform world record attempt at 400 metres in a heavy woollen overcoat has seemingly left me in a state of malodorous detoxification ... ie: Ive got a bit of a sweat on. And a thirst too as I place a bottle of cider in front of me ready to be opened.

The middle-aged bloke opposite with the Sunday supplements spread out over the table puts his hand to his nose and keeps it there. I was literally getting up the bloke's nose. I noticed his over-manicured fingernails and carefully-coiffured barnet. 'Ponce!' I think as he sits there like some disapproving Regency dandy. Then I realise who it is. Nick Cave. And I'm not his biggest fan. I let rip: "Funny your reaction is exactly the same as mine when ever I hear one of your godawful self-important over-hyped sh!t-dirges masquerading as music" He ignores me. "I'm not saying you don't have your moments. Release The Bats was a good effort. But that was over thirty years ago!" He looks up at me from his newspaper. I continue. The run seems to have activated the part of the brain that deals with put-downs of a musical nature: "You know what you are? I'll tell you what you are. You're an Antipodean chancer carpetbagging a living with self-indulgent talentless approximations of Scott Walker and Johnny Cash. You're about as authentic as the strained noises emitted by Jamiroquoi in his ongoing appropriation of early Stevie Wonder. You're revered by the sort of people who think Depeche Mode are edgy. You're a fcuking 4th division Lee Hazelwood!" He doesn't respond.

Of course he doesn't respond as I didn't actually say any of it out-loud. But I did think it very loudly. To be honest I didn't fancy an uncomfortable 45 minutes sitting with someone I would've slagged off. So I quietly sipped my cider, took in the view from the window, and put my headphones on. Mr. Cave still sat there, a delicate hand still pressed to his offended nose. Me still reeking of Eau De Strongbow. I couldn't resist. I waved my iPod at him: "None of your shit on here mate." Belch.

HaHa! You lucky sod. Jo Guest was my favourite!

However, you were in Turnmills 2001 which begs the following two questions;

1. Are you sure it was her?!
2. Was she off her (fantastic) tits as well?!

I've got the Power.

Reminds me of when I was stewarding at live aid at Wembley. The concert was well underway and I was due a turn downstairs by the turnstiles and lower concourse so others could watch some of the concert ( hope you enjoyed Nick Kershaw suckers!). I had a mate called Justin and it was one of his first events. The concourse was pretty dead and then a lone couple were walking out of the backstage area towards us. Sir feckin Bob geldof and his then mrs, Paula Yates. Justin goes bounding up to the happy couple and asks for a photograph, and his bobness was happy enough to oblige. Justin thanks bob, turns around and hands his camera to Paula and waits for her to take the picture. She was not at all impressed tells him to piss off shoves the camera back at him before stomping off backstage again, I end up taking a picture to a now less than happy bobby boy and completely oblivious Justin. Didn't do much more stewarding with Justin after that.

Never knowingly understood

I was in Scribes in Kensington High St after one of the euro 96 games and went for a long overdue breaking of the seal. Terry Venables walked in, addressed the trough beside me and proceeded to unleash a thunderous niagara falls of pìss. Despite my kidneys aching, I couldn't summon a sparrahs tear and after about 5 minutes of voiding, he turns around, flashes a smile and says 'stage fright, eh?' It's never happened before or since.

1996 eh, Gazza against Scotland, el Tel's possession game, worksafe razzle from lovely Jo Guest, Vic singing Firestarter in the club style... I'm getting emotional again.

A magnificent football club, the love of our lives, finding a way to finally have its day in the sun.

Before Man. City came to town in 1992 all the talk was of Adrian Heath's woeful record of one goal in eighteen months. Rangers fans, always an optimistic bunch, were cakking it; he was bound to score against us.

No need to worry. He hit the bar and we stuffed them 4-0.

Long after the game Dave Thomas, Dave Anderson and I were standing outside the Box Office when the City team came out. Dave Anderson grabbed a piece of paper and joined the autograph-hunting kids. While Adrian Heath signed a load of autographs, Dave put on the charm and sympathy and with his Northern accent caught a distracted Heath off guard:-

"'Ere, could you sign that, Adrian?"
"Ya"
"Hard luck today"
"Thanks"
"You played well"
"Thanks"
"Really well"
"Thanks"
"Hit the bar, too, di'nt ya"
"Ya"
Unlucky that"
"Ya"
"That would've been two goals in eighteen months!"

Heath went for Dave, realising he'd been mugged off. A few more City players joined in. A few fists flying. Their team bus emptied. It took Niall "Mother Teresa" Quinn to break it all up. I was bursting my hole laughing and Quinn (who knew my brother) was shouting at me "You should know better, you!" which made me laugh even more.

Eventually, everybody realised that nobody wanted to fight, and I told Quinn what Dave had done. He got back on the bus, laughing his head off, and I could hear him start to tell the City players "Lads, wait till I tell yiz..."

Beautiful work, Dave. Beautiful.

Fairly sure, but then I did once spend an hour flirting with who i thought was Sarah Cox in Bugged Out. Jon Carter, her then partner was DJing, so seemed reasonable (not from his perspective i guess), but I was later informed that it absolutely was not Sarah Cox, so...

I once had a celebrity slash next to Jim Bowen at a venue in Peterborough when Bullseye was at the height of its fame. I’d gone to watch The Stranglers and he was doing stand-up in another section.

I plucked up the courage to speak to him and just said it was nice to meet him, big fan etc. After we’d finished we stood washing our hands at the basins and he turns to me and says: “It’s been a pleasure to speak to someone who doesn’t just shout ‘super, smashing great’ at me.”

Just then the rest of my mates came bowling in and spotted me with Jim. I tried to give them frantic hand signals but too late as to a man they shouted out “Super, smashing, great!” Jim gives me a look of utter disdain before walking out, shaking his head and muttering under his breath.

That's given me a terrible image of Jim Bowen in the gents unzipping himself with a coy: "Now let's see what you could've won".

At least it's taking my mind off the election.

went to see Gladys Knight at the Hammersmith Odeon many years ago.
in the bar beforehand, my mate's girlfriend spotted Eamonn Holmes and announced loudly "that bloke looks like Eamonn Holmes only much fatter"
He didn't look very pleased at all.

many years ago in the aftershow bar at Shepherds Bush Empire after a Everything But the Girl gig, I hadn't been to the gig but I used to hang around there a lot because I had a few friends that worked there.
I was drunkenly and loudly saying to my mate what a weird face Tracy Thorn from Everything But the Girl had, and how she looks like she's got her face pressed against a pane of glass. Then I noticed that her husband and bandmate was standing very close and heard my comment.
He called me a "stupid f**ker"

Fast forward to a few years later, I was in Notting Hill Arts Club and Ben Watt was there because he was one of the DJs.
I was outside having a fag and telling this really fit Aussie girl about what happened at the Shepherds Bush Empire and just as I repeated the comment about the pane of glass Ben Watt walked past and heard me again.

Another one, from about 11 years ago, when I used to work in the Long Room Bar at Lords Cricket Ground.

We all used to know that Freddie Flintoff used the downstairs toilets for a smoke, as it set off the alarms upstairs, and one game, think it was a test against New Zealand, I got nominated to go and tell him to stop.

So I walk downstairs and into the bogs, and he takes one look at me in my all-black get up and says: "Don't say a fookin' word."

Left him alone to finish. Should have asked him for a fag.
