I'll get this in before this thread becomes full of the hard left celebrating.

RIP the greatest leader this country has had in my lifetime, in particular not pandering to the Unions and socialist demons that exist like rats in the sewers, poisoning everything.

Poll: Who do you think bury should appoint as their next manager?

Who poisoned everything good about our country and its values of a shared society where labour was respected, communities nurtured and systems built for the good of all rather than the profit of a few; a destruction of our core being not dissimilar to what many on here feel was wraught on our club by the Coleman/Bell era.

I'd liken her reign more to the Hillcroft regime. When they started we were skint, facing relegation and couldn't pick up points on the road.

When Thatcher came in we were skint, without any upward momentum, and she got us picking up 3 points at tricky venues like the Falklands.

I would liken the era you speak of as Gordon Brown, term. Sell off the silver/gold for a fraction of its real value, fail to fix the hole in the roof whilst the sun was shining leaving us in a position where we have to return to the old mentor to get us out of the shit. For Thatcher, read Hill!

A sad start to this thread - fully expect you to be in a minority of one.

It's also equally ironic (for those of a certain age) that the BBC are headlining a story about UK retailers rationing baby milk at the moment.

As ever, the truth lies somewhere in between the opposing views already put on here.

Whilst I fundamentally disagree with many of her policies she was a great leader.

This event will cause division and polarised views as her life did. Like the Graham Barrow era in my book.

Horrible person.

I fully supported her views on school milk at the time and wished she'd been more hard-line to be honest, scrapping it completely. It was either full of ice in the winter or too warm in the summer.

Ah bollocks, I just read on Twitter "That Cher has died."

I cannot believe how quickly the media has issued obituaries and the plans for the funeral.

Agree. The Unions had too much power and very often held the country to ransom, one of the greatest Prime Ministers of all time.

Look at the dross that has followed her reign as PM!

...and she didn't need to lie to take the country to war.

A minority of three.

There is unlikely to be a prime minister ever again like her. I'd take her over all the lily livered spineless toss bags that we have these days, be it tory or otherwise.

I disagree, she wasn't one of the best, she was THE best.

I'm sure everyone will agree to disagree here (grabs tin hat)

I've always blamed the 'easy money' culture on her. I don't think it was good for us. Nowadays everyone here answers phones but nobody actually makes them. Some of the best engineers in the world are British but there's no car industry. When getting unions in line something went wrong somewhere.

No. I agree to a point. Our production of stuff went downhill because it was costing too much to produce stuff here and she wouldn't spend money we didn't have subsidising wages to produce stuff that could be sourced cheaper elsewhere - coal being the most famous cause in the 1980's.

Something, somewhere did go wrong in the area you speak of. But a great many other things went right.

Although she'll be remembered more for milk and the daft Poll Tax, than she will for empowering thousands of people to buy their own council homes, helping make London the financial capital of the world, and giving people a general sense of being proud to be British!

She also took on the football hooligans, and won after (I think?) the infamous Luton v Millwall game in 1985. Younguns - google it!!! And I think she was a prime mover in getting stadiums rebuilt post Hillsborough, appointing Lord Justice Taylor etc.

Minority of four. Well said. Great Prime Minister indeed.
