Zarate on loan from WHU on 16:40 - Dec 29 by kingo

As Blob said, variation is the key. On paper, Zarate means that we can play two holding midfielders, with Fer in the hole and Charlie up top with Vargas and Zarate supporting him. He tries this with Hoilett but his shooting is terrible. Plus if he puts him out wide he can't cross. I think Zarate offers a better option for that system. We also need pace ot wide if we want the option to change to 442.

One very solid point is that Zarate is a lot better player than Hoilett, SWP, Matt Phillips, Fer, Mutch and anyone we've tried as links between midfield and attack. Our best player at that, is vetoed by the manager and has AC Milan interested in him.

I repeat...Zarate is no midfielder. He'd like to play up top. That means unless we revert to a three forwards approach, he'll be unhappy (or have no role to play) and HE WILL SULK.

This one is gathering momentum.

Seems it's about to be announced.

I HATE this.

I just hope the boy grows up and cuts the nonsense he's been showing throughout his career at every club he's been at.

I can't hope of anything with our manager. I'm done wasting my time talking about this man. This sentence was the last time.

My guess is that our best player in the link role is Vargas.

I'm not against signing Zarate as such - though I don't like the sound of his off-pitch behaviour - but I'd be a lot happier if I heard Redknapp had worked out what to do with the players he's got before buying new ones.

Plan A is to use Zamora as target man to provide for Austin. If a team with Palace's limited resources can work out how to cut out that, then we'd better have a Plan B ready toute suite otherwise Charlie's goals are going to dry up soon and if so we are screeeewwed

Errrmmmm....
You'll be fine whilst your massaging Candle Face's ego but that statement is shall we say somewhat wide of the mark.

not seen much of him but we need options up front so hopefully he'll do well. As with all signings many on here will say he is crap before a ball is kicked but we shall see. We're in the loan market so not going to get superstars.

Yes but we need a number 9 not yet another number 10, If we are going to spend money bringing someone in then surely its got to be in the areas we need centre forward who can hold the ball up and a winger

A left winger preferably.

I've seen him for a few good years and playing in different leagues. He's got ability. You'll never hear me say he's crap. Just his attitude.

As long as he keeps that off the pitch and doesn't become a disruptive figure, I'm fine and I hope he shows his best side on the pitch.

Let's not be having this "right sort of players" speech. Because it's clearly BS.

I didn't mean Zarate. I meant wasting time talking about Redknapp. He's not the only one saying things about "the right sort", is he?

Now you're making me speak about Redknapp again!

Like the look of that but it requires (a) a quick and high defensive line (think Dunne defends too deep for that) and (b) Barton and Henry to press high up the pitch. See the way Liverpool played Swansea last night - but they have the midfield players to do it (Lallana, Lucas, Henderson etc.). Plus can Zarate play up front on the left?

IF, thats IF, he joins, that would almost certainly be a no for Defoe wouldnt it? Both are tiny.

So we are signing a player to play the number 10 role in a system we never use,
Don't we have about 4 of those players already ??? Niko, Fer , Vargas and dare I say it Adel can all play there
we need fullback cover, a box to box midfielder and an out & out striker
Last I checked Zarate is none of those
So now people are saying we can play 4-3-3 is that to go with the 3-5-2, 5-3-2,the 4-4-2 , the 4-5-1 and the 4-6-0 formations our Arry has already used and failed at

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Will someone kindly define what a "number 10" is all about?
Are we talking Stan and Rodney here or what?

i think everything should run through bobby as some form of conduit to the promised land. If only he could just add some subtle nuances to his game in the form of breathing, eating, walking ,shitting, being and scoring we may finally have some player on our hands for many years to come.

I can't believe that this is going to work out well given the reported petulance and we've all seen how HR deals with AT. But who knows, let's see, after all no amount of reasoned arguments either for or against are going to make the blindest bit of difference.

I look forward to being pleasantly surprised.

Would rather have Ravel back. He is what we need. More energy up front and some ideas about how to create an attack. He will get a few goals too.
