| Forum Thread | Leeds United interested in Swansea City centre-back (Yorkshire Evening Post) at 19:20 2 Sep 2020
Premier League newcomers Leeds United are interested in signing Swansea City centre-back Ben Cabango. The Cardiff-born defender, 20, who has been called up by Ryan Giggs for the Wales squad to face Finland and Bulgaria in the Nations League, joined the Swans at 14 and has made 23 first-team appearances, including 20 Championship starts last season. An approach has not been made yet, but Leeds director of football Victor Orta is known to be an admirer of Cabango, who made his senior debut for The New Saints during a loan spell in 2018-19. |
| Forum Thread | Swansea City downgrade academy status at 18:21 2 Sep 2020
Swansea City have downgraded the status of the club's academy as part of cost-cutting at the Championship club. The Swans have seen several key players develop in their youth system after moving to the elite-level category one status in 2016. Ex-Swansea chairman Trevor Birch, who left the club this week to join Tottenham Hotspur, had said the academy would be protected until at least 2021. The financial impact of Covid-19 sees the club move to category two status. The move will see Swansea's youth sides drop out of Premier League 2 and into the Professional Development League. It will also mean Swansea will be limited to a catchment area of where they can recruit new young talent from. With costs to run the academy at the top level estimated to be between £3m and £5m, the Welsh club have been unable to avoid making the cuts. Swansea had already needed to make savings following relegation from the Premier League before the financial hit of the coronavirus pandemic. Wales internationals Connor Roberts, Joe Rodon and recent call-up Ben Cabango as well as Manchester United's Daniel James were all products of Swansea's investment into their academy during their successful time in the Premier League. |

| Forum Thread | Swans will give Clement time (Sky Sports) at 16:22 20 Nov 2017
Swansea’s Paul Clement remains safe in his job at the Liberty Stadium for now, with owners Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien keen to give their manager time to stem the flow of defeats. Sky Sports understands the owners believe Clement is still the man to sort out their current problems and his future won’t depend on the crucial visit of Bournemouth to the Liberty Stadium on Saturday. Clement is approaching a year in charge in South Wales. Both Levien and Kaplan are well aware of the way he turned the club’s fortunes around, including a run of 4 wins in 5, which secured their Premier League survival last term. ---- Is this the kiss of death? |
