R's to host Huddersfield in Play-Off Final on Wednesday 12:27 - May 13 with 7822 views | JonDoeman | Rangers U18s will take on the Terriers youth team on Wednesday 15th May, kick-off 7pm. Steve Gallen’s young charges have been handed home advantage in the final following their 1-0 semi-final triumph against Leeds United last Saturday. An injury time strike from Peter Skapetis, his 22nd goal in 25 appearances this season, handed the R’s victory. Admission will be FREE for all spectators - entry via South Africa Road only. R's to host Huddersfield in Play-Off Final on Wednesday on 22:50 - May 15 by Northernr | Just back. Nice to see them win, they deserved it overall. Really liked the 4 in midfield for us, Laurent I think, very calm and intelligent with the ball. The 8 for them was a good player as well, and well done to Huddersfield for keeping him on and developing his skill and technique while his body matures rather than the old English way of "too small, see you later". FA have got to have a look at the format though. The last 25 minutes was just a cramp fest, can't be doing lads that age any good. Well done to the R's for battling through it and coming through the other side. |
Thank God, it didn't go to extra time. Otherwise it would have looked like an A&E ward on a Saturday night. And would have taken about 11 hours (newsworthy connection??). I though Holmes (their no 8) ran their team and we struggled in central midfield to cope with his forward runs. But there was more grit and determination on show tonight than we've seen from the established professionals, this year.

Absolutely, and at times a good deal more idea and structure on how to actually build an attack steadily down the field by maintaining possession - although again this went out of the window in the last half an hour. Certainly think there's a strong argument that up to and including that age they should be playing 2x35 or 3x25 games or something like that. And/or have rolling subs so the lads can be rotated around. Can't be doing them any good at all to be battling through a final 30 minutes with cramp. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

R's to host Huddersfield in Play-Off Final on Wednesday on 22:34 - May 15 by DesertBoot | Furlong's son is the number 2. Darnell and he played centre back. Number 3 is Emanuelle something. Huge, quick and very skilful. Thought our left winger played well and Dennis Wises boy too. Very deep in the second half but really enjoyed seeing them play. |
I think the lad Wise's name is Harley and is no relation to Dennis Wise. Dennis Wise's son is Henry and I think he is on schoolboy forms for us. He can only be 14 years old tops though as Dennis Wise went up the steps at the old Wembley with him when he was a baby when the scum won the 2000 FA Cup.

Don't know where you got that info from, furlong played right back and harley wise is not dennis wise's son. Dennis wise does however have a son on our books but is about 13.

Holmes the #8 has already played in the Championship for them so there is hope for some of ours.

It was a nonsense. There was a corner overhit way beyond the back post and with the ball bobbling out for a goal kick on the far side the referee decided he was going to penalise some of the holding that had gone on underneath the cross. The referee was a pedantic arshole all night. He booked the kid for that, and showed another yellow card in the second half for a nothing foul, and of course penalised one of the keepers for holding the ball longer than six seconds. Flashing yellow cards about and behaving like a big shot at an under 18s game - no doubt we'll be seeing him in the Championship soon. Fcking tosspot.

Yeh he was right behind me mate. Good to see so many come down from Huddersfield but some of the stuff they were shouting was totally out of order and inappropriate for a youth game. They're only kids at the end of the day.

As I walked back to the overground I saw a police can with blue lights on racing down South Africa rd, presumed it was heading to white city but did wonder if it had kicked off.

I doubt it. One of the dads and one of the brothers/mates (a scouse fella) shouted some daft things during the game and then one of the mums started towards the end with the "kick him" stuff. I really wanted us to bloody win by the end! Nice to see you last night mate.

It was a penalty all day long. As the ball reached the far post, Wise ( I think) was trying to jump to head the cross and was held down by a defender who was clearly pulling his shirt. Not too dissimilar to Bosingwas attempt at marking on Sunday. The indirect freekick given against our keeper was technically correct but I thought the ref should've warned him first which he didn't.And a s a mate commented 'when do you see refs give that these days ?'. The worse one was when Furlong went to take a throw in near the end. The lino told him to take it about 5 yards further back and while walking back to the position the lino was indicating, the ref ran about 20 yards and looked like he was going to book our player but then must 've been told by the lino what had happened. All in all though, the referee wasn't up to standard so we'll see him return for a first team game next season no doubt. BTW Denis Wise was there watching last night.
R's to host Huddersfield in Play-Off Final on Wednesday on 12:52 - May 16 with 1009 views | simmo | Agree with most of the above, was my first game live at this level and I would be up for watching more if they played in accessible places. I though Laurent our number 4(?) had a good game, didnt panic, always made time for himself even under pressure and moved intelligently after the pass. Their number 8 the same, as mentioned already it is good that he is encouraged as a lad that has not developed yet rather than just cast aside for the physically dominant alternatives. Not sure who was on the wing for us (LW first half and RW 2nd) but he was rapid, kept running even at the end when most others were dead. Didnt see as much of Skapetis really, no clear or obvious chances but his lay off game was pretty good and impressed with his core strength and touches when receiving lofted or channel balls. Took his penalty well, I will allow him the excessive celebration in light of it beign a final

For the penalty the ball was way too high and well past them anyway when the offence took place. He wouldn't have reached it if he'd been left unmarked and given a set of steps. I thought it was harsh. Agree on the Furlong incident though - he nearly got booked for time wasting over that and he only moved it because the lino told him to!

Interesting write up. More analysis than chronology. I was impressed with young Furlong as well as the ones you mentioned. I thought he was defensively sound and tried to link up with the winger. I know he didn't have much to do but Joe Lumley, and it's the second time I've seen him, reminds me of a young David Seaman. He doesn't have to make spectacular saves because he's always in the right position.
