Are we suddenly one of the most hated Prem teams? 10:21 - Aug 16 with 3687 viewsqueensparker

Seems like it to me. Reading that Swansea preview, I think we're going to see a lot more of that type of thing this season.

Was chatting to a Spurs mate the other day and he said the same, along the lines of "it's weird, everyone used to quite like QPR, but we all hate you now".

Why is it? All the money we're spending (no more than, say, Fulham over the years)? Having the unpopular Warnock / Hughes as managers? Flavio and his 'boutique' bollox which everyone thinks is still hanging around? Barton's performance on the last day? A new generation of fans who have no idea of our history? The fact we actually are able to raise an atmosphere at home which frightens the Prem JCLs? The idea we 'got away with it' on the Faurlin saga? All of the above?

I think people see us as punching above our weight in an unfair manner.. ie via the spending of large amounts of money rather than "hard graft"

Lazy pigeon holeing

This was eluded to last season, we made ourselves easy to dislike. To be honest if i supported someone else I would dislike us too. We came up after 'buying success' with rich owners (I know it wasnt exactly like this but you see my point). We did so with some dodgy deals and perceived 'orrible players/hatchet men like Derry, Hill etc and all with Colin at the helm.

Once up we then went out like big time Charlies throwing money around for 'big name signings' the complete opposite way to the other 2 promoted clubs with nice managers that bought lower league and stuck with their current team. We also go and make Barton captain and get red cards a plenty on our way to staying up.

If you also factor in the jealousy angle of the squad we have built and the fact that we were basically insignificant to anybody in the top 30 teams of the league in the last 10 years and are now pushing top 10 potentially. You start to get a sense of the reasons.

I was thinking the other day is there ANY team that is universally liked? In England is there any team that the neutral would support every time outside of their own allegiance?

ask Beavis I get nothing Butthead

Its a real interesting point/points you make, Its part of the Good Old QPR slowly dying out and the new phase coming in!

I still see us as a very unique club in the way we do our business Good, but mostly bad, but now there is such stability we look like a regular Prem team.

Not to mention the fact we are on par with most of them now, they wont like it.

Poll: Do you think this current QPR team has got what is takes to go up this year?

I think alot of the hatred is down to Barton. Whenever i talked footy to clients and said i supported QPR, the'd talk about les, stan, rodney etc. Now they just go on about barton

Who cares? The better we get, the more people will hate us.

I hate most teams for no real rational reason, it's football, we're only meant to love one club.

People used to like us because we used to give them at least four points a season.

IMO The start of this hatred was when Flabbio came in, and along with that the perception that we were flashing loads of cash when we actually weren't. Again in the championship winning season it's believed that we bought (and cheated with Faurlin saga) our way to the title.

Better than being one of the most hated Championship teams.

I post on other general football forums and can confirm that employing one Joseph Barton is definitely a factor.

It's nicer to be liked.

Arsenal were almost universally loathed because they were boring, dirty and owned by Etonians. Now they are many people's 2nd team.

We can turn it round.

We've been owned by Briatore, employed Warnock, Hughes & Barton and been embroiled in Faurlingate...

It's not surprising people dislike the club.

I think we're disliked for all the reasons mentioned above!

Also while smaller clubs don't really seem to care about the bigger clubs splshing obscene amounts of cash - they seem to get very affronted when other smaller clubs splash out a bit?

I mean what is our club record transfer fee? £4m for Cisse? In an age where average players routinely go for £10-15m? It's peanuts in the grand scheme of things (although significant for us obviously!)

How many shits I give about the opinion of other teams' fans: ZERO.

F*ck them.

I dislike it when people say we're throwing money around as I think that's unfair given that we came up with Palace rejects and free signings.

Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Not getting involved with this one, but I suppose you could argue that whilst you haven't spent a (relative) fortune on transfer fees, your wage bill is surely far higher than most comparable clubs? Having said that, net effect is probably the same, i.e. what you haven't paid out to other clubs just goes towards the wage bill.

Fair comment and our wage bill is undoubtedly substantial (especially for a club our size) but i'd still be suprised if the figure generally thrown about are true (Barton £80K a week blah blah).

Norwich are about the only club in the prem that don't pay big transfer fees or wages though - and i don't see a lot of hate for noveau riche Reading or Southampton?

a good few of my mates who all support liverpool, city, spuds to name a few never had a problem until we signed Barton.

They all say the same to me now "can't look out for the qpr result while you have that scumbag there"

Not being funny, but for all the talk of a new ground, ambition etc, why would someone pick, say, QPR (or Fulham) over someone like Sunderland, Villa, Everton etc? All much bigger clubs, more established, all pay relatively good wages. Can surely only be the attraction of London life (especially for overseas players) and money? Bobby Zamora cited ambition when he signed, but what's he expecting? CL football? A league title? Finishing in about the same spots as Fulham have done recently? It's not like he'll be around to play in your new ground, same as most of the rest of them.

Most of our players are on about £25kpw with a handful on £35-45kpw - pretty sure you're paying considerably bigger wages than that.

I also think your previous board, Warnock/Hughes and Barton don't help on the popularity front.

Could not give a flying one what other supporters think for starters. Given where we have come from these past 15-20 years, ie the brink, back through the Paladini and Briatore era to stability with a spendng power beyond our means, they may well come back to haunt us again, I'm enjoying these halcyon days and just laugh at the bitters.
Last season, we skinned Arsenal, Chelscum, Spuds, broke Liverpools hearts and gave Man City the fright of their lives with 10 men! And somehow survived. It was a remarkable season for a little west London Club that went close to the wall and I'm still blinking in the sunlight. Cisse's goal celebration against the scum was like he'd bagged the European Cup. After the storms we've been through, we have earned these halcyon days and I could not give a flying one what anyone else thinks. Hate QPR? So what. Despise Barton? Couldn't give a fck and so forth ad infinitum.

How do you know that any of those clubs were in for the same players though?

Zamora signed 95% for the cash and 5% because he didn't like Jol i'd guess. The fact he didn't have to move house probably helped too.

The £10m you spent on Bryan Ruiz would pay our wage bill for a while i'd suspect though and i doubt Petric, Rodallega and Dembele etc were childhood Fulham fans.
