I'm renewing our season tickets this year but if next seasons refereeing is as bad then I think my 45 year love affair with football will be over, we pay good money and some of the games are seen to be so loaded against us it just won't be worth it. Seriously pissed off at the moment.

The fa are a bunch of self serving corrupt w@nkers who are only interested in self preservation and not the future of a once great game.
The game has become way to political to ever be run with any transparancy and will only get worse with Sky's demands. If i was Hughes,i'd be temted to tell my players to go down on every corner and free kick when any minimal contact what so ever was made just to make a fcukin point.Utter scum.

Mate, you not renewing your S/T is going to do what exactly to the FA? And what will it do to our club?

Not sure how to demonstrate against the FA but not renewing is certainly not a solution

"The main issue for me is the diving - there has to be an introduction of penalties for diving."

There is under Law 12 - straight booking.

"Any simulating action anywhere on the field, which is intended to deceive the Referee, must be sanctioned as unsporting behaviour."

The problem is officials aren't applying it (or most other laws) consistently.

Interesting that although they thought the decision was correct they've dropped the linesman altogether and put Mason on fourth official duties this weekend.

I should have been clearer - I mean retrospective penalties for when the referee has been conned/not seen it.

There was a ref on 5 Live on Sunday who made the point that QPR have actually been punished four times over for the same refereeing mistake:

1) Didn't get the offside free kick.
2) Had a penalty awarded against us.
3) Had Derry sent off.
4) Lost Derry for the next match.

I'm pretty sure sanctions for unsporting behaviour can be applied retrospectively and certainly have been by Uefa for Eduardo's piss-taking effort for Arsenal against Celtic. A couple of the Huns have been done for it in the SPL too.

It's not the rules, it's the application of them that's all wrong.

Maybe, but it's not the common practise. If this was explicitly stated - say start of next season (too late now) - diving incurs automatic 3 match ban 1st offence. Second offence 4 match ban etc, same as red cards basically, problem would soon reduce.

Unsporting behaviour is too vague, not helped by various 'experts' who keep claiming that people are correct to do it.

If this got introduced, we will see similar threads where some people are adjudged not to have dived, and others are not.

I think the FA have set a precedent that their match officials have every right to be wrong.

Furthermore, even though video and/or photographic evidence shows the match officials are wrong, the FA will continue to block use of same during the game in order to correct the mistakes.

The fourth official should be there to alert the referee when a blatant error has occurred. That happens in other sports.

When will the Players Association do the right thing and require video review, where the technology is available, as happens in the CFL (Canadian Football League), Test Match Cricket, and elsewhere.

Failure to do so really makes the FA look like a bunch of technologically challenged amateurs, whereas the sport should be at the leading edge for improvements in officiating.

My word! No point in having an appeals process then.

And still no acknowledgement of the merits of video review either. An honest mistake is still a mistake. A mistake that goes uncorrected is not honest IMHO.

It's not a protest against the FA it's turning up to watch a decent game of football which is decided fair and square and not because a big club is favoured.

Most annoying thing is Lord Sean plays a full career in the lower divisions works hard to get us there and has to do it all over again to get back in our side and finally gets to captain a premier team away at old trafford-and then that happens- is it any wonder players get cynical (same with Hills goal really)

Gallagher did his usual round up yesterday and to quote him:

'I don't think it's a foul but Lee's seen it and given it'

SSN bloke: 'shouldn't he discuss with his assistant and give himself some thinking time before producing a red?'

'No, if he gives himself thinking time people will assume he's being influenced by being at Old Trafford. Lee's seen a foul and done brilliantly to make the decision and give the red card so quickly'

Word for word.

But would they? Players and managers alike wanted clarification and consistency on what constitutes a "dangerous" tackle so along with sending everyone a video entitled "How to tackle" Mike Riley came out with...

‘If you commit to a tackle at speed and with intensity, typically with both feet off the ground, then you put yourself at risk of being sent off.’

...which is almost the textbook definition of what Rooney put on Diakité 10mins into Sunday's game. Mason's application of that guidance? Do fúck all.

I think so, generally. There will always be exceptions, mistakes, different interpretations, influences etc.

You are certainly more likely this season to be sent-off for a two-footed tackle than previously - most players know this and it happens less. Not every challenge is punished, but more than before.

if you had the same for diving, there would still be times players were not punished, however I think more would be punished and managers would start to stamp it out if people kept being suspended, as would players if clubs fined them for said sending offs.

It probably won't happen though.

The only conclusion is that the FA believes reds never make a mistake.

both teams should have 2 video reviews on top of goal line technology being standard. Either manager or captain decides what to review and the time it takes to review it is about the same time it takes for players to chase the ref and moan about it. If you've already used your two reviews before a Derry style incident then hard luck
