The red card to the Arsenal full back last weekend.

The PL says that the tackle was late, high (above the ankle) and reckless and therefore amounted to violent conduct.

The pundits/managers say that it was nowhere near the Arsenal goal and therefore was not a denial of a goal scoring opportunity and was a yellow at best.

My view is that a red for violent conduct does not need the "denial of opportunity" as well. If it's violent conduct, it's a red anywhere on the pitch.

Was it violent conduct?

It was high. There did not seem to be much force, more of a trip. (PL players go down at the slightest hint of contact anyway so perhaps in their little pink fluffy precious world, it was "violent"). Was it reckless? Not for me. It was not a wild two footed lunge but a trip.

I think overall the lad was unlucky.

I do guarantee that if he had been a Saints player, it would have been red all day.

It's all a load of bollox

So many inconsistencies throughout the game and the Prem.

The same fouls are treated differently in different games and sometimes differently even the same games. You can half see why the Arsenal Red was given, but then why didn't the Wolves player getting his 2nd yellow, get a straight red ? It was far worse and more violent than the Arsenal player's 'take 1 for the team' trip.

VAR was supposed to help get to the correct decisions, but all it really does is promote someone else's point of view, creates massive hold ups in games and can still get crucial decisions wrong. It has become a huge joke and other countries laugh at our inept handling of all things VAR.

We have really had some terrible decisions go against us this season and it is not just VAR, because in certain games our players seem to get singled out for yellow cards, yet the opposition players doing the same fouls go unpunished. West Ham was the prime example (look at the stats ffs !!), plus Fernandes getting booked at the weekend, yet Newcastle did far worse and got zero cards.

Roll on next season and no VAR

......mind you we might need it for 2 games next season, if they manage to stay up !! :-)

On top of soft penalty, foul on tall Paul for Newcastle 2nd goal and disallowing our 2nd, VAR also managed to miss what many experts say was a clear red card for foul on Tall Paul

You believe wrong.

VAR won’t be in the Championship.

The clubs can’t afford it.

Unless it was against us, then play would've been waved on.

There is some evidence that refs are biased toward "successful" teams, especially when they are playing at home.

Generally however, whilst I think many refs are short of the required standard, bias makes very little difference over a season.

(And we should abandon VAR)

i think the reason oliver sent him off was that it wasnt just a trip hes actually aimed a kick at his opponent, weve seen players sent off for kicking out after they have been tackled many times, its no different.
