Murder of a policeman last night 14:21 - Aug 16 with 11360 viewsraynor94

Absolutely shocking, more so that 10 males aged from 13-30, have been arrested.

On top of all the recent stabbings, what on earth is this Country coming too

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

Appalling, another PC needlessly losing their life in the line of duty, knife crime is spiralling out of control and the risk of terrorism remains on red alert, once again I reiterate its time to routinely arm the police force... RIP PC Andrew Harper

You might think I've forgotten, but one day, when you least expect it, my time will come.

We don't need knee jerk reactions. It was in rural Berkshire i believe, hardly a hotbed of violent crime.

"Knee jerk reaction" are you bloody joking ?

Stabbings, murder and violent crime are at epidemic proportions, the knee jerk reaction should have been taken years ago.

It's gone up 8% and was higher in 2006, which obviously is too much, but it's hardly an epidemic.

The headline I saw just said Police officer dead in Berkshire. My brother is an investigative officer in Newbury and my childhood best mate is in Windsor or Reading. Berkshire is a big place but it does send a shiver of panic when you see the headline.

Difficult culture to be a copper in.

Berkshire I'd imagine?

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

Been married a month, it would be tragic for any family to lose a relative who was just doing their job but it seems particularly poignant when it is a young person just starting a family life.

Life is an adventure or nothing at all.

Take 20,000 cops off the street, release more offenders from prison earlier on tag etc, make sweeping changes to the probation system so that it becomes a shambles.....

On top of that, in some places the fabric of society is breaking down, gangs are taking over, kids with limited prospects are seeing gangsters and drug dealers making big money and want a piece of the action as they see its their only way to make money etc. There’s quite a few contributory factors and blame can be laid at lots of doors, but Cameron and May are responsible for quite a bit of this.

Yes, because the scum responsible are really going to, you know, not do what they did with more officers around.

Maybe tougher sentence for scum would be a better starting point.

Tough sentences don't deter as they don't think they will be caught and certainly don't think about it at the time they commit the offence.

Time to bring back back the death sentence i think, and no fannying around like America with death row and all that, also really up the sentence for carrying a knife.

Exactly, and sentences to match the crimes, all these reduced sentences and a third off for pleading guilty, the deterrent has gone.

More cops would allow for more targeting and intelligence led operations, it would also allow the cops to put resources back in to the neighbourhood policing teams where the officers can engage with the community, gather intelligence and action it. It’s the same with terrorism.

There’s a clip on the net about Teresa May going off on one about the police (or maybe their staff association) crying wolf years ago, I think the current state of affairs supports the police’s position at that time.
