The Official Norwich City v Swansea City Matchday Thread on 19:46 - Nov 7 by RuDeMan1970 | I am now in the position of feeling exactly the same as when Jackett's reign was coming to an end, that is to say I think we have the players but not the right coaching staff to get the best out of them. Along came Roberto and the positive effect was immediate. I feel that:- Garry has tried to alter the style of play too much, making us pedestrian, predictable, toothless...and, yes, bloody boring to watch. His substitutions are become increasingly baffling (Eder for Shelvey on 87 minutes???) His appointment of his good friend Beattie has been nothing short of disastrous with our sole aim now appearing to be to lift the ball up to the head of the increasingly poor Gomis. His refusal to alter the starting line-up (Ayew to lead the line instead of Gomis anyone?) His decision to allow Dyer to go to a rival on loan...for the season...with no recall clause...was questionable. Our failure to pick up points against the 'lesser' sides is sowing the seeds of our downfall. We have the run-in from Hell this season; a similar run-in which eventually sealed the relegation for both Norwich and Hull in recent years...and at a time when the European internationals in our squad will have one eye on the June Euros. I am totally resigned to relegation at the end of this season unless things change drastically. Monk has - apparently - already ruled out the prospect of him having an older head at the club to advise him, which to me means either he changes or he himself gets changed by the board. |
Excellent post. Well thought out.

The Official Norwich City v Swansea City Matchday Thread on 18:12 - Nov 7 by A_Fans_Dad | No, money lost on Spanish players is totally irrelevent. The transfer fees of players brought in this year do not even equal Bony's transfer fee 2 years ago. They certainly do not equal to the £28M the club got for him, which was the "worth" of the player to the club at that time. |
We had to pay up contracts surely or make a loss on those we were desperate to be rid of? Bony's fee is coming in installments so cash is tight.

But the fees we pay also are in instalments, as are the signing fees we pay to Gomis / Ayew in lieu of fees. Cash shouldn't be as tight as it is given our net transfer surplus and no investment in the ground - we've invested in the training / academy facilities (and academy team) possibly too quickly if cash is as tight as has been mentioned. Could also have done without some of the other payments out as well on non essentials.

Aye if cash is tight I expect there'll be no dividends paid for a couple of years until cash flow eases.

well those as well (although I was more specifically thinking about our foray into Hollywood). I don't understand how cash can be as tight as it supposedly is. No debt when we came into division, net transfer surplus (including fees to Gomis / Ayes) and nothing spent on ground. Exactly how much have we spent out on Fairwood / Landore and the 21s team?

To be fair, I believe he said there isn't the money for a £10m striker rather than no striker (unless I remember incorrectly or he said something different elsewhere).

We already have a £5M striker who is only good for 3 minutes a game so we need 30 of them to get a 90 minute man.

The Official Norwich City v Swansea City Matchday Thread on 20:52 - Nov 7 with 2325 views | Dewi1jack | I have defended GM to the hilt recently, but today I can actually say I was completely baffled by the substitutions made. They've been reasonably silly recently but today just took the p1ss. 1-0 down, so take off an attacking player, who can score and had hit the bar in the game and bring on the goal machine that is our Leon- yes I've seen Leon score, but not since the Championship against Sheffield. I'd also seen Mark Gower score, as well as Gorka bloody Pintado, doesn't make them goal machines either. Still losing? Lets bring on Eder with just enough time for him to get a bit of mud on his boots, so the apprentice has to clean them Monday. Same as always. Although I think Eder actually had less time today, than he's ever had. Slow and ponderous? That snail had been following our midfield all game. May as well have passed the ball to him as well. Bafe seemed to be playing central midfield at times. Even Messi can't score unless given chances. Bafe just looks so short of confidence it's unreal. Beattie teaching the forwards, KOL the defence. Even Capt Mainwaring had better training staff! Think the board are going to be making a hard decision soon. Do they stick loyally with GM, or do they give a fuk about the £160 million TV money due (if we stay up) next season, as well as their divis and chances to "look for outside investment" ( in their personal bank accounts only.) Sorry for writing War and Peace. I've defended GM from the start of his managerial career with us, against some rather vindictive sounding people at times. After the debacle of today ( and Watford, Stoke, Southampton, 'Ull,) I think I need to stand aside and stop defending the indefensible. A win against Ballmouth will only apply a thin rizzla type paper over cracks that are appearing to be as wide as Cheddar Gorge. Still think things will change and we'll avoid relegation quite easily. Just need to forget about the FA Cup/ EL and CL places this season

I'm still for giving GM a chance. Just give him the coaching staff that can help him not hinder him. Get rid of this "jobs for the boys/mates" school of thinking, which the board must accept responsibility for. They hired everyone

Yes, the commentators said that it was just about the worst bickering they had ever heard. That is not a good sign. And one more thing - I watched the whole of the Bournemouth-Newcastle match beforehand. Don't be fooled by the scoreline, B'mouth were very unlucky to lose - they looked sharp, in fact they played a bit like we used to play. If they play like that again against us in 2 weeks time, and we put in a repeat performance, we are going to lose that one as well.

If the board want to give him more time then we trust him...however I think they know what we do already. Perhaps they will give him one more game. I've lived in Swansea for 28 years, lived in Bristol for the remainder, however I never want to see us get like Rovers/City fans....we know what needs to be done. So let it be done. I will back the board from this side of the Severn, no matter what happens.

I've read a lot of praise for Fernandez although I've always been a bit sceptical about him. Do you think the fact he played for Napoli and is an Argentinian international has blinded some to his suitability for the PL. His distribution and sometimes positional play has to be among the worst I've seen at this level.

The Official Norwich City v Swansea City Matchday Thread on 18:13 - Nov 7 by Private_Partz | I am not so sure he is a 'yes' man. I really hope he is not. They saw something in Gary and made the decision to appoint him and they have been successful on that front for years. The guy has been absolutely brilliant. The problem they have now is how to support him or sack him as performances are getting as bad as ML's and the end of his stint. Unfortunately European competition and unprecedented injuries are not part of the picture this time either...... |
Let's be honest, the main thing Monk had going for him when he was appointed is that he wasn't a big name and they knew he would be easy to handle/work with. After the struggles with Sousa and Laudrup the last thing Huw wanted was another big name like Koeman with a personality to match.

Well we're in trouble long term if HJ can't deal with people with a higher profile than himself. A Roger Lewis type figure needed to front the operation with the other board members making sure he doesn't go all ridsdale on us. We can't keep producing successful managers like Rabbits out of hats forever.

On this post which you contributed to http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/swanseacity/forum/157091/page:4#.Vj8kg7-2B Phil said "we don't have an alternative (outside of Eder) and we won't get an alternative in January unless we sell Gomis first. " He then added "I am sure the club would like a player who could bang in ten times the amount of goals that Gomis will score in a season. Or even a player who would take away the golden boot at the end of the season but there is such a thing as cashflow and to buy we need to sell. " He then said "What an injury doesn't do is generate the significant of cash needed to buy a new player " in answer to what would the club do if Gomis gets a bad injury. He also said "The point for me is we don't (unless I am mistaken) have a pot of money to replace them with " and then "I'm not sure I ever said that part I think my reference was more to those that think we will splash out £10m+ on a striker. I would be amazed if we have no budget but it won't be massive IMO" Would you say we could get a striker of the required quality for under £10M, unless we can find another Jamie Vardey of course. There is the possibility of a loan though.

I think when things are going wrong then players showing concern is not necessarily a bad thing. I agree on the point in relation to Bournemouth. A repeat performance against them and we will lose. They are creating chances and just can't hit the onion bag. Once one goes in more will follow.
