Pompey's last 5 seasons in the bottom rung having higher average attendances than Soton in the top flight for 12 of their season's ; rather disproves the opinion that Pompey fans glory-hunt.

You have actually spent a hugely embarrassing SIX seasons in the 4th tier. Just curious as to why you didn't include the other season (your 1st season in that league) in your stats ? Surely it would be a far better stat if it was your entire time in the 4th tier ?

You can't get any fairer comparison than this:

The average gates of ALL the seasons when Saints and Pompey have been in the SAME DIVISION together:

Southampton 17,385
Portsmouth 15,310

Mind the gap. It's growing BIGGER every year:

Of course, if we were to avoid the overall facts and cherry pick like a certain poster does, we could focus on the modern era and our PREMIER LEAGUE positions, record attendances and average attendances. Shall we do that?

Highest position

Saints 6th
Pompey 8th

Top 8 finishes

Saints 5
Pompey 1

Record attendance

Saints 32,151
Pompey 20,821

But, the truth is the only all-time attendance table most football fans in the country ever look at is this:

Yes, the first season was low, but the point is that we get called glory hunters. I am just illustrating that for 5 of those seasons in the bottom tier we have averaged more fans than 12 of your seasons in the top flight. And that stat alone busts that particular myth.

Portsmouth has been an appallingly run club for decades, and much of that was in the in the second tier where most of the low attendances are, which again disproves the myth about glory-hunting.

The average gates of ALL the seasons when Saints and Pompey have been in the SAME DIVISION together:

Southampton 17,385
Portsmouth 15,310

And the number of seasons Saints have been in a lower division than Little Pompey yet still had a bigger average attendance is SIX. Of course, we are usually above them in the league or it would be more than that.

Big clubs, like Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea, Spurs etc, have never been in Division 4. Being in the 4th tier is the mark of a small club, like Little Pompey.

Biggest 200 games in England : the south coast games that are included for attendances

Portsmouth : versus
Man utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Villa, Everton, Newcastle, Spurs, Chelsea (7 rivals)

Soton : versus
Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle (just 5 rivals)

This despite the fact that stadiums have been getting huge of late, Pompey still have more of the bigger games, and the only one in the top 30 in the country (Pompey v Arsenal)

FA cup games : average attendances

22,519 Soton v Pompey
36,000 Pompey v Soton (this game obviously had more than an exact 36,00 fans)

Pompey win by an astonishing 13,481 fans

Love the way you use your 1984 defeat to Saints to score attendance positivity points. Yes there were over 36k there that day, but the reality is that your home league average that season was just 13,196, proving that your fickle fans were only there to see Southampton !! Genuinely, where were the other 23k all season ?

According to 130 "they turn up when and if required".

Clearly not required for majority of that season then eh!

At least half of them were at the Dell.

The Saturday before they played Saints in the FA Cup, they had a home league game. Look how many of them bothered to turn up:

They NEVER had another 23k (haven't since 1959 in fact) as the 84 crowd included around 12,000 Saints all over the ground.

In fact, nearly as many as West Brom a few years later when they outnumbered Little Pompey at the Park.

WE had a 23k in 68, and allowing for a bit of Pompey corruption it was possibly 26/27k

Until you got your shiny new stadium, your club hadn't had a 23k attendance since 1968. I wouldn't try to claim the "we are a big club" just yet.

I see you've started off as you mean to go on, with ANOTHER LIE. What a surprise.

Saints had numerous 23,000+ gates at the Dell after 1968.

Seriously, why do you feel you have to lie about everything? Nobody believes you so what's the point?

He's one of the blue few, lying is in his dna!

Between 1968 and 2002 we had 16 seasons with league gates over 23k (that's more than the blue few), and for 18 seasons prior to that also!

All before the shiny new stadium!

I just randomly looked at the first FA Cup game in 1969 and poor 130's lies are immediately shown up:

There are just too many 23,000+ attendances at the Dell after 1968 to count right now. When I have a couple of spare hours, and I can be bothered, I'll have a go at it.
