Will labour ever get back into power? 10:52 - Dec 23 with 19683 viewsmrrockin

I've been following the recent labour news with amusement and a bit of sadness (yes genuinely) - it's painfully obvious that the tories are going to win an increased majority possibly even a landslide in 2020.

By this point the left of labour will have a stranglehold over labour and this will mean there is no hope for the right of labour which closely mirrors the early 80's with the breakaway of the SDP.

Personally I believe the likes of Denis Healey made a mistake and the moderates should have left on mass to join the SDP and leave the socialists to keep the red flag flying high. Maybe as CB has long argued it is time for a voting change.

I was very skeptical about voting change but I personally thought the coalition largely did a superb job and I was disappointed it didn't continue in many ways. I largely support this Gov but I'm more in the centre so I'd prefer the right wingers to be more restrained which the coalition provided.

My point is that under the present system labour will never recover and it might be time for a realignment to take place in British politics.

What a tedious read that was. No wonder most of the decent posters haven't bothered.

Is this MrRockin the same Rockin of old?

Despite our polar opposite views on many things, Rockin and I get on famously. Nemesis implies an enemy. I don't see him as that.

Which is exactly the way it should be. Life would be so dull if everyone agreed on everything.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Why would a Welsh person want to be a European nationalist ?, some might ask are the Northern European races intellectually on a par ?, its been noted by some that the Northern European races fight for money, property and possessions when the Welsh fight for friends and family, their community and their people.

Having total sovereignty within Europe is fine, but having decisions made for us by the Northern Europeans as that is what it would amount to is another thing.
We have fought the English and Germans over the years and the French let us down the last time we invaded England and we have also fought Nordic invaders in the past.

Some say we have more in common with our old trading partners around the Mediterranean basin, that they are more cultured and more like us but Europe is currently dominated by the Northern European types.

Would you prefer a Christian White European nation state even if you thought it was culturally watered down compared to an independent Welsh state, would that be acceptable to you Lohengrin ?

Since you are back on line Lohengrin, what would you prefer, a huge Christian White European nation state [Italians, Germans, French, Swedes, Russians from West of the Urals rtc etc] or an independent Welsh state ?

Independence presupposes an ability to be self-sufficient to a great extent, Tramp. Wales is too small for that. Why would you imagine that a Welsh cultural identity would find it difficult to express itself within a greater European framework?

Wales is not to small, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Singapore, Iceland, Malta, Ireland etc etc

The big ethnic groups try and dominate the smaller ones within the same state, being a collection of sovereign states is a different ball game though.

The gaze of the Welsh intellectual tradition was ever focused on Europe, Tramp. We are a part of that ancient family of nations, the dream was always to engage and play a fuller part.

I'm struggling to think of a single voice that cried out for seperation, to become a small struggling entity on the Western fringe. Education and reason are prized because they enable horizons to broaden not diminish.

The problem is Lohengin is that we have looked to France and the Mediterranean basin more than towards the Northern European races, we have history against Ingerlund, Deutschland and the Norsemen.

Well, you know, we've probably had the odd dust-up with the Visigoths and Vandals too but we don't let the Dark Ages bar the way to a brighter tomorrow.

Can we get on with the Northern races ?, the Welsh value education like you say, they see their culture as dear to them but the Northern races only seem to value money.

Just out of interest - do you think religion defines Europe or secular values ? Apart from obvious or perhaps not so obvious geographical boundaries of course.

What do you want the Gov to do exactly? Give you free money?

I work for just above the minimum wage and I don't receive any government help. My disposable income is almost zero after all the bills have been paid.

Some think of the Welsh as a Mediterranean race [Melanochroi] with associated traits, will the Nordic types understand us and us understand them in a super European all inclusive state Lohengrin ?

I suppose we have had some practice with our friends from the other side of Offa's Dyke over the centuries, i think the Northern Europeans will want to rule the roost in a European super state.

I think I will stick with an independent sovereign Wales as part of a collection of European countries as opposed as to being a region within a super European state.

England is one of the few countries with a state religion along with a few Muslim countries.
Wales like most countries does not have a state religion.

Northern Europe tends to be Protestant and Southern Europe Catholic with people in the East tending to be Orthodox.

Christianity has historically played its part, obviously, but equally you could make a case for our colossal collective literature having formed the warp and weft of a shared cultural identity.

It's over. Labour will split.

Yep the Labour Party is going to split because a handful of MPs, most probably preempting their own deselection before 2020, are going to stand down.

I can just see the hundreds of thousands of people who have joined the party in the last few months leaving in droves because Simon Danczuk, Tristram Hunt and Chris Leslie might leave the party.

If man evolved from monkeys why do we still have monkeys?
