Hornets on Sunday 19:31 - Feb 24 with 299522 views | EllDale | They’re tweeting that their “matchday operations” are being restricted for the home game against Barrow on Sunday for reasons that they don’t want to divulge at the moment. The bottom line is that the crowd capacity is limited to 920 and there will be no cash admissions on the day. Wonder what that’s all about?

Hornets on Sunday on 21:04 - May 16 by judd | Unless Mayfield players and fans like to watch former Mayfield players in action for Hornets? Not that I know of numbers but I remember one Mayfield game last season when a host of ex Mayfield and then Hornets players were in the balcony bar. What a team. |
Yes.. both clubs seem to get on

There used to be a picture in the bar (it may still be there) of a Hornets team from around the 1990s that had around ten or so former Mayfield lads in it. The links between the two clubs over the last 30 years or so have been good. Before then it was a slightly different story at times!

Agreed. I wonder if some / all of their players are on pay as you play contracts.

Very strange that no sign ofan official attendence yet. The rugbyleaguerecord keepers have all the details of the game except attendence. The game stats are usually available for all games within 24-36 hours. There is a funny smell about this.

A Swinton fan posted on the rugger forum that he likes to give it large on forums when inebriated so it makes sense. Take it he wasn’t at the after match celebrations last week then. Sure he had a direct line to what was going on though… [Post edited 27 May 2022 23:03]

Despite being marketed as a Summer game, there is actually very little rugby in June each year. Good for the players to go off and let their hair down I suppose - although what physical and mental condition they will be in when they cross the white lines again at Spotland remains to be seen.

Because of the entry of cornwall in the league there are an odd number in league 1 so each week has one team on a bye. Hornets bye is next week. The third weekend in June is international break. Hornets are required to vacate spotland in June for the pitch so the bye and international break avoids them having four consecutive away games. But it doesnt do much for revenue.

https://www.totalrl.com/forums/index.php?/topic/369627-doncaster-city/ The mystery is answered: "I am sure that the management team have a solid and professional reason for the non disclosure, Sometimes its not in the clubs interest to put everything out in the media ! The clubs communications are amongst the best in the league." Must have been a really embarrassingly low attendance if they are hiding behind that line or David Bottomley has taken root at Rochdale Hornets!

Now announced as 354. Doncaster usually bring a few so probaly less than 300 home fans.
Hornets on Sunday on 20:59 - May 30 with 3031 views | pioneer | lowest crowd last season was just over 800 and had a couple of games comfortably over 1000. That was a season they didnt finish above any team north of birmingham and only won one game against a team north of birmingham. That was a home win over Doncaster in front of 882 fans. On the field the team is far improved….off the field they have lost around 2/3 of the fan base.

Very poor from the Hornets hierarchy in a couple of ways. First, attempting to sneak out the attendance well after the fixture in a week of half term and the Jubilee which, as you say pioneer, was very poor taking into consideration an away support element in that number. Second, where are the marketing efforts for Hornets? Free tickets? Publicity? There is very little coming out of the Hornets media machine other than pictures of a tubby, grumpy looking Mazey who has no links with the town. Here's what he said on arrival: https://www.hornetsrugbyleague.co.uk/article/624/update-from-incoming-chairman,- We are very fortunate to be at the heart of the town, indeed a borough of over 200,000 people and we have never left. The sleeping giant is soon about to hear the alarm clock ring. Mazey needs to act soon - on an attendance of 354 out of 200,000 they are hitting no-one and must be losing money hand over fist.

Hornets on Sunday on 23:01 - May 30 with 2874 views | TyroneShoelaces | Having a quick look on Companies House. Andrew Paul Mazey is a director of 5 Co’s. 4 having total nett assets of £56879 the other being Hornets with Nett Assets of circa £177,000 and that through the generousity of a former Director who wrote off £144,000 which leaves a ‘real asset value’ prior to the write off of £23,000 Perhaps Mr Mazey isn’t quite the businessman he portrays himself to be. Of course he could be paid an excellent salary for his efforts and is prepared to put his money where his mouth is. Lets hope for Hornets sake he has very deep pockets
Hornets on Sunday on 23:03 - May 30 with 2867 views | EllDale | Just realised that it was a bit silly of him to refer to a catchment area of 200k. That’s presumably the population of Rochdale MBC which includes places like Heywood and Middleton who couldn’t give a monkeys about Hornets or even rugby league in general. Hornets historically drew their support from the old County Borough of Rochdale where population never went over 90000 people. And they never really got above 10% of that apart from the boom days of the 1940s and 1950s when every spectator sport in the country enjoyed a boom period.

The interesting thing about that £177k of net assets at the end of November 2022 is that £81k of it is "goodwill" which is only really as good as the amount of money that someone would pay for Hornets it it was to be sold. That leaves the £96k of net assets split out as follows: +£12k - plant and machinery +£105k - trade debtors +£147k - cash (£3k) - trade creditors (£18k) - VAT and PAYE (£149k) - "other" creditors When you consider that the November date is selected as the point in a Rugby League season where next season's sponsorships are invoiced and next season's season ticket money collected that £96k has to last from November 2021 to September 2022 -10 months. Or £9.6k per month without new money coming in. Add in that Hornets don't make a penny on matchday other than attendees at their games and you can see what that suddenly gets tight if they are getting such a shocking crowd like at the Doncaster game and only a small number of other revenue generating opportunities. There is no central funding anymore for Hornets and Rugby League is a dying game for TV money, being abandoned by the RFL unless you are one of the big Super League teams. Over 51,000 at the Challenge Cup final and nothing significant from that money will hit levels 2 or 3 of the game. [Post edited 30 May 2022 23:22]
