Training with us according to Sean Gallagher after his release by Swansea.

Poll: Moses Odubajo - Stick or Twist?

Definition of a 'meh' signing.

If it's low cost low risk then don't have a huge problem with it.
Would actually allow us to send Bettache on loan somewhere which would surely be better for his development than making him a bit part player here

I was under the impression Warbs was looking to improve our physicality this season....looks like a step backwards to me. God help us with Amos and Carroll in the middle of the park.

LTC might offer a bit of depth in the holding role if Amos starts to play further forward, as we've seen in a couple of pre-season games. If that does happen at Amos regularly starts at no.10, we're a bit sort in CM with only Bettache, Ball, and Cameron.

Get used to the following saying...

Bullied off the ball....

can you imagine those two in midfield against a Stoke or Blackburn? ☹️

We do still have Ball and Cameron who can cope in those matches.

Never knowingly right.

Agree fully with this and others saying if Warburton trusts him then so should we. It will be for a very specialised role in a complex system that he does seem to have the skills for and no doubt Warburton has been monitoring very closely over the past few weeks and won’t be proposing a contract unless he feels he can fulfil the remit. Very different to being more blood thrown into ‘Arrys shambles that he probably spent more time preparing for the 3pm @ Kempton than his midfielder requirements for the 3pm at LR. I didn’t rate him last time he was here either but if Warburton trusts that he will improve the squad and offers a contract I think we should give him a clean slate and see how he beds in. We do IMO still need a Shaun Derry type in there to let the artists paint though, but think the role Carroll plays is an incredibly underrated role and of huge importance in Warburton’s system, one Amos struggled to excel in last year. Hoping the signing of Dickie will also help relieve some of the pressure on Amos/Carroll. Just goes to show what an amazing player Ale Faurlin was for us, but guess he always had Adel in front of him causing havoc.

Also agree there is a degree of arrogance in saying if he is not good enough for Swansea, he will not be good enough for us and something I think we need to avoid.

Yeah I think the 'specialised' role part is the key, in terms of what he offers but even moreso in accepting that he isn't going to do some of the other things well.

If and when he gets shoved/bullied/decapitated off the ball it can be hard to watch, particularly in a losing side in poor form, which I think has been at the root of a lot of his loss of favour in recent years. Needs to be used wisely with the right set up around him.

Found this quite informative to fill in the gaps since he was last with us (Sorry if a Spack) :

I like Ball.... Cameron shouldn't have been given another year. Past it now at this level. Be lucky to get 15 games out of him

I tend to agree about Cameron. However, there's plenty bemoaning the lack of physicality with Amos and Carroll, if he should sign. Big Geoff does offer a substantial presence but I suspect it will be his last season at this level.

I'd really like to see us get in a defensive midfielder - let Ball compete with him for the start and use Cameron as the back up. Feels like a long season to have just those two, and Owens has a long term injury iirc. (Not sure if I'm missing someone?)

Useful article. Does tend to confirm both the good and bad things that we thought we knew about him as a player.

Looks like a possible free-transfer cover/competition for Amos, which I suppose is OK so far as it goes, since Warburton clearly wants an Amos-type in the side.

I think you're right in that he is going to struggle in a poor side but might be pretty useful in a decent one.

Doesn't do anything to help with the decline of Cameron, as cover for Ball, or to help us defend better as a team which is so obviously a problem. But that's OK if those things are going to be addressed separately.

Would rather we spunk £20m of Messi for a season..... think of all the full houses we would get, shirt sales worldwide, and assoorted stuff.

1 year contract.

I know, one can dream.

I suppose if LTC comes in then we certainly have options for the 2 at the base of midfield

Cameron, Ball, Amos, LTC, Bettache

Please let him be a midfield player who has a high pass success rate.

Get a bit fed up with misplaced passes from midfield and back four to midfield back to back four to midfield back to back four back four to midfield back to back four to midfield back to back four then whoops

Excellent news.

I'm sure his allround game has come on leaps and bounds since he was last with us and hes got much more experience now.
Sure we'll see some good tackling, pacey running, winning headers, strengthened in the midfield, shots and goals combined with defence splitting passes for [insert strikers name to be signed before big kick off] to run onto.

It's all coming together nicely. Looking forward to the big kick off.

Onwards

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

I'm with you - bypass the midfield, launch it up to the big man, off his head, straight to their goalie.
Sod this playing football lark, I really miss those Holloway days.

Sorry for being flippant, I know it ain't gonna be exciting at times, but neither is the predictable launch and then scrum in midfield when for once it doesn't go to their goalie. The best footballing sides pass it around in circles for much of the game, looking to create a gap and slip a ball. The exciting stuff mostly comes on the break.

Agreed. I thought that last year was the most enjoyable style of football since Don Howe's time.
