The Pitch 19:59 - Jan 22 with 52898 viewskiwidale

This time last year a decision was made to dig up the pitch and lay a new one it seemed at the time a bold move but a proactive one. Today its becoming apparent the pitch is a write off or is it? no communication from the club leads to speculation. Ive only seen the pics you have seen it close up so is it worse than last year? is it worse than it looks or better than it seems? will it be played on again?

This is not the time for bickering.

If we beat Millwall, it'd be madness not to keep them until the Spurs game at least

Wonder what the hire costs are?

Would imagine there's a strong commercial and logistical argument to keeping them. We can't afford any more fixture congestion or not to have an adequate playing surface. It seems after Millwall/Cobblers that there is fight left in the Dale. Let's not put barriers up of our own making.

Up the Dale - NOT for sale!

Agree, all barriers should be made by recognised sport stadia manufacturers

Could still be Newport! Either way, need it to ensure the TV match goes ahead.

If the last pitch laying exercise was properly guaranteed as has been suggested, then all this reparation work should be at the expense of the company concerned in accordance with the terms of the contract and guarantee

It is ridiculous that it has failed after such a short period of time. Clearly not fit for purpose.

Looking at Oldhams and Burys pitches on TV they were both mudheaps, if our pitch is worse it must be unplayable

They can prepare the pitch under the cover, it won’t need removing until a few hours before kick off.

If we win the game, I really hope the club are considering keeping the cover for a longer period even if it ends up costing most of the prize money for a win.

Apparently not - just been to ground & cover's gone, several staff around - drill n' fill time??

None. As an absolute last resort, it will be played on a neutral ground......

That's only if the contractors instructions regarding subsequent care of the pitch by the groundstaff have been adhered to. The case of the missing groundsman may throw some light on this matter.

Must admit I was wondering along the same lines. Cut flowers last for a week or more if you put them in water but not if you leave them on the back seat of your car in a carrier bag.

Can he be missing as he was removed from the position two weeks ago?

That’s hearsay until announced or confirmed by the club.

Based purely on the condition of the pitch, I hope the club have acted to replace the groundsman.

Gone completely or just not on? We have our own frost covers which will help against cold weather but surely we are looking forward ahead of Millwall towards the weekend before making a decision on whether to continue using the hired covers that are obviously superior.

Couldn't get into ground so difficult to be sure - there appears to be some white sheeting behind the goals. Current forecast suggests end of week ok but heavy snow Tue!

Met Office has light snow for 9am and 12 noon. We can but hope.

No need to remove covers (own or hired) until late afternoon.

As none of us know the detail of the contract with the pitch, or whose fault the current state is, why don't we all stfu

The temperature's due to drop below freezing by 7pm tomorrow night

With the best efforts up at COA, there's going to be plenty of moisture still in the ground after the covers are removed

How long before it freezes?
