Ollie post match 21:33 - Jul 29 with 7765 views | davman | Caulker is one to two weeks away. WOW. Really???? Thought he was gone. The additions likely to be loans. He only wants to play one formation! How many did he play today? It looked like we had Perch, Lynch, Furlong, Onouha and most bizarrely Goss playing Centre back today at some point. I can see that team taking a few stuffings and winning the odd game 1-0. Still not confident...

Ollie post match on 23:32 - Jul 31 by Hunterhoop | JFH did not play 4411. Not in my book. Not the way we're talking here, with width. We had no width under him. I spent the whole time moaning about it, as most of you know! In some games he had Cousins as the furthest "right sided" player. Washington spent all his time out on the left....or isolated up top. I remember it more as a narrow 433, with Cherry at the point of the triangle of the 3 midfielders. Often had Henry and Luongo behind/alongside, with Wash on the left of the front 3 and all manner of different players on the right of the front 3. As such we were extremely narrow as everyone in those front 6 wanted to play down the middle. |
I think if we play the 3 at the back when we have the ball making sure we play with width then it will work quite well. The problem with any system we go with for me is that we don't have a left winger so if we play with two wingers the left sided one would more than likely be Freeman or Yenni who will be looking to come inside all the time. If we make a few signings and bring in a left winger then I'd agree that would be the way to go but with the squad we have the 5-3-2 without the ball and 3-4-1-2 with it seems our best option especially in that first month where I don't think we'll have much of the ball and need to be very hard to beat. If we set up for these games as we did at Newcastle, reading and Leeds last season then we might cause a few surprises.

Ollie post match on 23:14 - Jul 31 by Northernr | Shodipo won't get picked regularly again while Holloway is here. I hope to be proven wrong. |
Shame he's been inured pre season, I think if he had played a game or two pre season then he'd be back in favour. Still I think at this stage of his career regular football is important so I'd be loaning him out until the New Year and see how he goes.

Yep absolutely this until we inevitably went 0-1 down. At which point Pavel and Shodipo would appear as out and out wingers and we'd look like world beaters for the last 10 minutes of the match. Very frustrating.
