Looking forward to it. Three of us going, three great friends. We all used to live in Clare, now I live in Cork, one lad is married in the Alps and one is married in Dublin and has just come through a couple of years of serious illness. No partners or families on this occasion, just the three of us, and Zell am See has been on the must-visit list for a long time. Should be good.

You've got to listen to The War On Drugs, Lost in The Dream. Album of the year from Q, Uncut, The Times and 6music.
James - La Petite Mort First Aid Kit
If you want something leftfield, try St Vincent

Derby,
Yep, I love 'Lost in The Dream'. Class album. Not mad about St. Vincent, though the talent is unreal alright. Haven't listened to the new ones from either of First aid Kit or James for some reason, so thanks for tip - I'll catch up on them now - sound.

Have always absolutely detested Belle & Sebastian. Got stuck watching them at Primavera few years ago as they were on before Pulp's comeback show, ugh intolerable twee balls.
It's been a long wait, but went and got the new Sleater Kinney on deluxe vinyl yesterday. My word, it's like they've never been away

Ya, I get the B&S hatred, they're the kind if kids you'd hate in school. I think they're fickle as fugg but when they get it right, as with 'Mornington Crescent', they're unbelievably good.
Sleater-Kinney are new to me. somehow I missed them first time around, or maybe I heard of them and heard their stuff but managed to forget since. Started listening to them recently, though. Will check out the new album, thanks.

in 2005 I'd just got into them but at Reading festival I chose Hot Hot Heat over them, unaware that SK were about to go away for 10 years. Thankfully that will be rectified in March.
Sadly though their reformation means no second album for their spin off band Wild Flag whose solitary album is an absolute riot

Loved that Wild Flag album.

Talli, I heard that Marmozets band the other day. Pretty decent single. Quite hard hitting. Had the occasional 'for the kids' bit of melodic singing which I didn't like - seems like every heavy tune these days has a bit of pop chorus shit in it, I blame Slipknot - but overall, pretty good.

Tally, I'm listening to them now. They remind of Million Dead. MD were much better than Marmozets but they are both good. MD didn't have a redhead singing though. They had Frank Turner before he became a folk ponce.
MD were exceptional back then.

If you like Talking Heads make sure you listen to Ought's debut album 'More Than Any Other Day' while Alvvays self-titled debut was also pretty great last year. Check out Communions too. New Danish band-think they've only released 2 singles 'So Long Sun' and 'Love Stands Still' but have a really great Stone Roses vibe going on
Probably not for you Brian but some of our rockers may like it.
I bought this last week it's Paul Allender's (Formerly of Cradle of Filth) new band. It's very good and the bass player is grnnnnnnaaarrrrrrrghhhh.
Sorry but women can't do death metal. It just sounds rubbish.
If you want a fit bassist, what about the redhead (Nadja?) who joined Coal Chamber for their second album. I saw them live (supporting Type O, I'm not a CC fan) and she took ten years off my cock.

I'll Check out the million Dead cheers.
Coal Chamber have had 3 fitties over the years, wtf happened to the singer though? He looked more fooked up then Booby Liebling.
Edit: ah Page 3 thread syndrome Bobby of Pentagram

Beer and Beef has made us what we are - The Prince Regent
Very much enjoying Catfish and the Bottlemen at the moment, the album is called The Balcony. Whole album of punchy well crafted guitar based indie tracks, particular standouts for me are Cocoon (particularly infectious), Homesick, Pacifier, Business and Kathleen.

Actually MD had a female bassist as well.
They had two albums and then split.
First album is very punky but clever with it.
Check out the video for 'I Gave My Eyes To Stevie Wonder', that's a good example of what they are about. Also 'Living the Dream'. Takes a bit longer to get going but is amazing.

Who is now the bassist in Future of the Left (and stood in for McLusky on their recent "reformation" shows)
Saw Million Dead *so* many times at uni as Frank was in the year above me so they'd play all the time and he'd do acoustic Abba covers at our open mic nights too. Makes me so sad where he is now (the style, not his success)

Just had a listen, pretty good.
I see what you mean.

Will do, Kernow. Thanks.

Will try that too. Thanks.

You're okay, Robith.
I saw them twice. Once on that last tour. Fking astonishingly good live. Frank was a brutal frontman.
I met him (in WHSmith) before the gig and had a chat. Felt a bit odd as I'm a fair bit older than him but he was really intelligent and we had a good chat about the music scene in general.

I have derived a great deal of enjoyment from "The Graceless Age" by John Murry. Often simple sound - guitar singer songwriter - and v interesting background story to the artist (I'll say no more), the songs are the really powerful thing here. Absolutely cracking (occasionally) rock n roll album. Get on board.
