European Super League on 08:36 - Apr 19 by Centurion | I have to say I support the BIG 6 forming their own European Super League but only if they agree to surrender their places in the Premier league and football league. Also to forfeit their right to play in the FA Cup and League Cup. If I was the FA and the one of the clubs outside the Big 6 I would call their bluff. If the Big 6 do go ahead with the Super League then wish them good luck and the rest of football can enjoy getting on with a newly refreshed and more equal league with relegation and promotion. I don't think the rest of football will die, far from it. I think it will open things up and make for more exciting domestic football. |
Why? What has this to do with the PL? Instead of playing in a mid-week Euro competition where UEFA takes most of the money, the clubs will instead play in a mid-week Euro competition where the clubs keep most of the money. Why are moronic English football fans getting so angry and having such loyalty to UEFA? What has UEFA done to deserve this loyalty?

I totally agree. I'm baffled why so many people are getting irate. The amount of European fixtures would be basically the same for most of them as it is now. And after a few early defeats, the likes of Arsenal and Spurs would probably put out weakened teams in Europe to concentrate on the EPL.
European Super League on 10:12 - Apr 19 with 1232 views | Sadoldgit | On one hand the “big” clubs complain of playing too much football yet they now want to play even more? Crazy. Pleased to hear that they will be thrown out of the existing competitions and the players will not be called up to play for their countries. I feel for the genuine supporters of those clubs, especially if everyone else stands firm and no new clubs join this cartel each season. It will just become a stagnant pond eventually whilst the rest of us can enjoy a more level playing field.

So what? Since when have we been able to compete against the big boys?

European Super League on 10:35 - Apr 19 with 1207 views | PaleRider | Surprised by two things: 1) Spurs being included. Can't remember the last time they won anything; 2) a huge club like Portsmouth not being invited - maybe they're holding out for the Inter-galactic super league.
European Super League on 10:45 - Apr 19 with 1189 views | Bison | The German Clubs are 51% fan owned and both Bayern and Dortmund have said they wont join and they dont have rich American owners running rough shod over the fans. The ones that join will need 2 teams if they stay in the PL and its not a Cup comp thats played every 4 weeks with long breaks its a full 38 game League so the ones that join will rape the smaller clubs like us for players. Kick the feckers out and lets reboot English Football.

Are you mental? Thrown out of domestic competitions? Do you really think this would happen? The PL without the big 6 is just the Championship so they would say goodbye to all their billion pound tv deals! lol!! As for international football, look how carefully FIFA are treading. They know the clubs hold all of the cards. If FIFA bar ESL players from the WC then there is every chance the ESL will set up their own WC (and keep all the revenues from this as well). You can't have a meaningful WC without any of the best players from the top clubs in World football. The old FIFA WC would end up being the equivalent of the old Lakeside darts world championship!

Yes I do. There is nothing wrong with Championship football. Replace the so called big six with the best 6 clubs from the Championship and you will have a much more interesting league over a few years with decent football. Money has killed decent completion in the EPL. With less money hopefully there will be more competition. Do you think they will just sit back be bullied? Do you think there will be the same money going the Premiership way anyone once the Super League is established?

How did football possibly survive when Man City were in the third tier of English football? This proposal has got so many flaws to it, but looking at some of the emerging details, it’s laughable. Obviously these clubs will get ridiculous amounts of money making any potential involvement in their domestic leagues pointless as they would have 4/5 times more money to spend. Also, the Willy Wonka golden ticket winners who ‘win’ the extra place through their leagues can be vetoed by the other clubs. Add the fact that this is apparently being aimed at the Far East market, meaning kick off times getting changed to ridiculous times to accommodate them e.g. 11am on a Tuesday morning. Liverpool fans will be bricking the away teams coach on the school run FFS. It will be a matter of time before games get played abroad, there is absolute no regulations and they will be able to do whatever they want. They might carry the badge/name of the club but that will be that.

You're getting confused in thinking the PL want a competitive league. Of course they don't, they want £££. A PL without the big 6 will have zero interest over-seas which is where the PL makes it revenue from. All this proposal currently is is wresting the control of the CL away from UEFA and giving it to the clubs playing in the ESL. Nothing that the PL will be overly concerned about if the big 6 still want to play in the PL, which they have said they do. There is zero chance of the the PL 'kicking out' the big boys for playing in a mid-week Euro league ESL instead of a midweek euro league CL.

Agreed. A more egalitarian PL would be fine by me. I long for the days when the top domestic league was more competitive.

I’m not confused at all. It’s the fans who want more competition that is why they will support the banning of the big six. You are deluded if you think they will just let it happen. You say that they are only interested in money. Do you think they will get the same TV money once the super league is established? Lol

What are you wittering on about? For fans a more competitive league is obviously better but this doesn't matter at all to the PL. They are only concerned with maximising their revenues. When the next TV deal comes around what do you think the TV companies will offer more for? A PL with 6 clubs from the Championship replacing the ESL teams or a PL that still has the Big 6 in it? Are you actually being serious?

So you saying they will just play midweek ESL then EPL at weekends ? The winners of the Champions League currently play 13 games , under the new league each team will play 38 games like the EPL. So will the ESL be 38 weeks of playing on a Wednesday ? I very much doubt it and then fit in 38 EPL games . No way can the EPL stand for that they must fight fire with fire and kick them out to have any chance of winning this war. The top 6 have already said they will play weakened teams in the EPL over the ESL so that the integrity of the league gone.

You're quite mad aren't you! So what are you advocating? That the PL expels the Big 6 for wanting to play in a mid-week Euro League (when they already play in a mid-week Euro League). This will mean that their TV revenues fall from Billions to hundreds of thousands. I'm sure they will be right behind your amazing business idea. Have you ever thought about appearing on Dragon's Den?

Yep. If they have more revenue they can afford bigger squads. If they have to play a weakened team in the PL then great, we'd have more chance of winning. I've got bad news for you if you are fearing for the integrity of the PL......

We already have a mid-week league. It's called the Champion's League, the clue is in the name. Why replace it? Do you really need this explained to you? With the new league the teams control the league (as was the case when the PL teams broke away from the football league to set-up the PL) rather than UEFA. Why should the corrupt organisation which is UEFA cream off billions of pounds of revenue from the CL when there is nothing they provide which the clubs cannot do themselves, which is now being proven. Your loyalty to UEFA is touching.

To win the current CL, teams have to play 13 games. To win this proposal, they will need to play 18 games just in the group stages. Teams will almost have two full squads, playing weakened teams in the PL (which in itself is in breach of contract). Take into account the travel, if anyone thinks these games will take place in just Europe, then you need to have a think about time zones and the Far East market they are trying to tap into. It’s a greedy mess and the genuine fans of the ‘Big 6’ will be the ones to suffer the most.

Odd that you think of them as greedy just due to them not wanting to pay huge sums of money for f'k all to UEFA. You must think very highly of UEFA indeed. I've no idea why. They have every right to form their own league, just as the founding members of the PL did back in the early 90s.
