Thread | Defence - potential signings?

I have faith in KH to sign a solid defender or two but assuming that Long was only linked to us because of Coleman, I guess he's off our radar now?
Anyone have any idea about who we could possibly going for? I'm racking my brain and I'm struggling to think of an affordable option for us with the right amount of solidarity and experience...

1. Where do you realistically see us in 10 years time?
2. What would you be happy with? i.e how many promotions, relegations, cup runs etc?
3. Do you honestly see us ever establishing ourselves (i.e 5 years+) in a higher division than the one we're in?
I ask these questions because I'm becoming disillusioned with some of the posts and threads on here at the moment. We are a small club at this level and some people don't seem to realise this. I personally think there's more chance of us being a stable Conference side than a stable League 1 side but perhaps that's just the pessimist in me trying to get out. |

I was glad to see him back on the team sheet and I thought he had a good game today.
Having said that, he has to stamp out his petulance and play-acting - it was an embarassment today at times. The lad's only young yet though and has the potential, so I'm just hoping he eradicates that from his game (unless of course he's under orders to do it). |

May not actually be just that.
Grimes scores 2 and puts himself in the shop window.
Obviously he splits opinion but we NEED to keep the only natural goalscorer we have in my opinion. Clubs will definitely be sniffing around in January and today won't have harmed his cause one bit. |

Thinking back to last year *shudders* and how badly our team under Eyre (and somewhat Beech) dealt with adversity, the thing that everyone seemed to want this year was a team that displayed some fighting spirit and work ethic.
Whilst I think a lot more people are now warming to the manager and the set of players we have, the discontent and feeling of unfamiliarity felt by fans has been well publicised on this board and indeed to the fans I've spoken to in real life.
That being said, it's now very clear that we have a team that battles for both each other and the fans for the whole 90 minutes, a very passionate (if somewhat a little stubborn) management team, drive and ambition to push for a play-off spot and of course a considerable amount of ability throughout the team.
On reflection, with the position we're in and the group of players we've acquired, I for one am very happy with how things are going and I'm getting that 'next match day' feeling back again. I think cautiously optimistic just about sums it up and as a Rochdale fan, that's about as good as it'll get for me because I'm an absolute jinx. |

Something's going to have to give...
Cavanagh simply cannot start the next game.
Can't believe Rafftery got dropped, that's a disgrace and surely dents both the team and individual morale (he's been one of our most consistent performers too).
Supporters will very quickly start losing patience (if we haven't already).
We're lucky to be where we are in the able and if we're not careful we can easily lose touch with the chasing pack.

I think our team's performance is based on the % of chavs in the crowd.
Accy away was like a Youth Offender's day out if anyone can remember? (Bouncy Bouncy Bouncy)
Civilised folk of Rochdale hang your head in shame as you are to blame for the team's poor home form.
I reckon if we all turn up in our best Chav gear next home game we'll win convincingly.

I know it's a bit late but I've not had access to a computer since Tuesday.
When queing up to purchase a ticket there was a lad in front of me trying to claim he was under 16 (he looked about 30 and was at least 20). He was asked by the woman if he had an id 16 bus pass and this is how the conversation went:
Hoodlum: Eya mate narrrr I don't use da bus I walk to college...sh*t, I mean I walk to school..
Woman: Oh you go to collge do you? That'll be adult price please...£20 (or whatever it was)
Hoodlum: Narr oh for f*cks sake...
The second incident occured at half time when the same group of lads were drinking beer. A few of them somehow managed to blag getting in as 15 year olds and one in particular was approached by the stewards when they revealed they'd been watching him and knew he had a 'young persons' ticket and yet was drinking beer. One of the stewards then (wrongfully and completely unnecessarily IMO ) grabbed him and took him over to one side (insert 'Well that escalated rather quickly') where he conveniently couldn't find his ticket but produced a betting slip and uttered the words 'Eyar surely you have to be 18 to put a bet on so dat proooves am old enough to drink' (completely missing the point and producing the worst defence since Stockport away a few years ago which contained Boardman and McArdle). At that point the players were coming out so I went to take my seat absolutely p*ssing myself at the stupidity of some of Rochdale's 'yoof'.
I believe Tazzy was in their group but I fully expect him to have paid adult price for his ticket considering he is an upstanding member of society. |
