Southampton Linked With River Plate Coach Monday, 7th Nov 2022 09:46 After pressure mounted on Ralph Hasenhuttl following the defeat to Newcastle United, rumours have surfaced that the club have identified a potential replacement in Argentina.
The man that is being linked with Saints is Marcello Gallardo who has been coach at River Plate since 2014, but he has decided to leave the club as their season has now ended.
He fits the profile that Saints will look for in a manager, he is young, he will turn 47 in January, he has been successful both as a player and a manager, winning 44 caps for Argentina.
He played some of his career in France with both Monaco & PSG, he started his coaching career in 2011 with Nacional in Uraguay winning the title there before joining River Plate in 2014 .
At River Plate he has won just one Primera Division title but numerous cups and he is widely liked and considered a success.
Now he has left to seek a new challenge and it is believed that Saints are opening talks with him to replace Ralph Hasenhuttl.

For goodness sake employ someone who can speak decent English, another Pochettino or Puel who needs a translator to locate his office door, it will only annoy the fans in interviews and further confuse the players who will be complete strangers to him when he arrives and suddenly changes the playing formation. Better still if he can bring a couple of goalscorers with him. IF Ralph is to go - don't sack him until after the Liverpool game. At least he knows the squad and there is a chance that we might get better results v. Sheff Wed, and Liverpool. It hardly makes any difference at the moment. A new manager who can fit in during the World Cup break will at least give him time to find his way to Staplewood on his own.

Couldn’t give a toss if he can speak English or not as long as he improves up who cares? Maybe the xenophobic brexit fans

Ralph had to go now. Number 2 can take care of the remaining games before the world cup. He cant do any worse than Ralph! and hopfully he will play players in posistion like armstrong as a striker. YYou never know he might even be able to get Armstrong to start scoring. But Ralph had to go. Anyone saying we should have kept him for the remaining games before the WC needs looking at them selves. Ralph really should have gone 5 games ago if now at the end of last season.

Saints have bought youngsters with a view to the next few seasons, but that's not helpful to anyone this season. We needed and didn't get an instinctive goal scorer in the summer, someone willing to go for a goal rather than a last minute pass to a mate. Please Sports Republic find a manager who is far far more experienced than your new players, one who has operated at the level of the UK Premiership.

I agree it doesn't matter if the new guy's English isn't very good. That's coming from a brexiteer, sorry to disappoint cocklebreath but shows how deluded remaoners are who fail to see how xenophobic the EU was as it was harder for non Europeans to enter the UK than it was for those in the EU, which could be viewed as racist given how unfair that was.. But back to the point of Ralph.. Very sad in some ways because he is an easy guy to warm to, his love and passion for the club was second to none but the owners have to look after their investment and the signs have been there for a good while. I think his character and passion were probably the reasons why he was given extended chances but in truth we need freshening up now and the right decision has been made. He will be remembered for the time he spent on the restructure during lockdown and for some decent results against the top 6.Best of luck and wishes Ralph
