I can’t help but think the clubs I’ve just mentioned would never let this happen. And yet as Saints fans we just take it and shrug our shoulders. The club needs a serious investor - if, professionally we ever recover from tonight. They won’t exactly be queueing up. So distraught - it’s unbelievable.

Yes the referee was way too eager to send off Bednarek and again VAR was against us. But where is the pride? Where is the fight? There is a mental issue with this team and I’m afraid that starts with the manager.

Take nothing away from Utd tonight they were superb, whilst we were pathetic. but i simply can not watch games ruined by the ridiculous rules of modern football. I have been a season ticket holder since 1975, i doubt i will be in the future. What a sad, sad day.

Im hurt but im furious that someone like that can get away with being so bias and cheat through a game yet again against us . How was adams offside for one and no one in the universe thinks that it was a penalty . But he had to have his way after the other one was ruled out . Martial dived .he also used his arm to control the ball before he scores . Yes we were crap but so many players out we expected to get beat but when you are playing against officials aswell ffs! I just hope we can get the points we need to stay up

ElijahK added 22:45 - Feb 2 It’s just annoying watching us at the moment, I mean I just feel for Ralph as he’s doing the best he can as he always picks a starting lineup that we all pretty much agree with and is doing decent tactics, but we’ve had a lot of injuries which just shows of how we’ve got such a shit owner and board as our squad depth is just ridiculously thin! And yet we’ve done nothing about it! I mean we simply lost that game down to that and that certain players just being purely rubbish! I mean in the end Bertrand has been poor recently and the likes of Djenpo is WORSE! Than Boufal! And for that Swedish youth player, well sheesh he wanted to play as he wondered why he never did... well there’s his answer! But we just couldn’t cope with it! VAR and mike dean though, I just can’t even be asked to talk about anymore! One positive is simply that Ramsay was actually decent enough! Btw you the hell was commentating in that game as one of them was a complete idiot who was blatantly a Man U fan going on about where cavani’s foot was for the penalty, idiot!

SanMarco added 22:51 - Feb 2 So given the injuries, a red card after 79 seconds and Manure having a day when they put away a high proportion of their chances a heavy defeat was always on the cards. We, of course, deserved to lose, and lose heavily, but I don't agree that we were pathetic. This wasn't like the Leicester capitulation. I thought the players kept their heads up and battled, at least until the penalty and second red card. Adams was basically level when he got the 4-1 goal and the penalty was a dive and, of course, 'look at me I'm Mike Dean' just had to give it anyway had to give it. Please don't get me wrong - this exposes our weakness in depth but is it right, as a gut reaction, to call for Ralph's head? Against Leicester he had to take a lot of the blame for in-game decisions but here what in the hell was he supposed to do. He basically had Nathan Redmond on the bench + goalkeepers and youngsters. We can recover from this like we did last season but cool heads are needed. We are having no luck at the moment - once we get players back from injury we can steady things and aim for top half and maybe a cup run. Of course it is thoroughly dispiriting but tonight was under very different circumstance to the last 9-0 (there is a phrase to make you cry as you type it). I hope that we can take a deep breath and get something at Newcastle. Talking of which - does Minamino play centre-back at all??

We disgrace ourselves in the transfer market, when the whole football world knows our weaknesses which we do nothing to rectify but make it worse and then follow up with another 9-0 admittedly against a good United performance. Some did try , var and Dean were against us yet again, even Martial said it wasn't a foul. We now find ourselves even more depleted for our next however many games with our injury position now compounded by red card dismissals. And by the way there is a pandemic going on. Someone give us a break please. As for RH I hope he can pick himself up again but I'm not sure.

Flamingbankers added 09:16 - Feb 3 'The stars were aligned against' Saints last night is an understatement: Questionable managerial decisions , lack of support from the owners, incompetent refereeing and dubious VAR decisions, some inept and one crucially unprofessional 'performance', cheating against us and terrible luck - were all rolled into one to make a car crash of a football match. But questions and conjectures have to proceed in what should be a forensic self-examination... I wonder whether Ralph put Jankewitz in the team because he asked for a transfer - I suspect so, why else? Slattery was midfield cover, I can't really see that sending him on loan, after he's played well before, makes much sense when we needed midfield cover and with all the other midfielders injured. Vokins wouldn't have been in the team though Valery might have been if he'd stayed. Many would have put Ramsay in the team but he was simply too inexperienced to cope with Djenepo struggling to understand what was required (as Nick Illingworth also said) and the flanks were as easily exposed as a team of schoolboys. However, those positional changes hugely threw all the players and none of the experienced players could cope with the inevitable Utd stampede of hungry world class players of course. Let's be honest, Utd have an amazing team and we could only challenge them with a full team firing on all cylinders. The most immediate problem, though, is the unavailability of Bednarek surely we'll appeal and surely the FA can can us some consolation by rescinding the awful decision. Lastly, even though half of Saints fans might disagree, you really have to question Hassenhuthl after two 9-0 defeats in two years. Eddie Howe is available!?

Hopefully Bednareks insane red card will be removed, and Dean will never ref. a Saints game again. If we win ONLY the coming home games that we on paper will probably be favourites to win, we can still achieve close to 60 points and easily end up in the top 10. I know we have to have our most important injured players back pretty soon to achieve that, but there is certainly no reason for panicking. We have bounced back incredibly before, and we can do it again. Our pride is hurt, yes, but if we can use the pain as a motivator as we have done before, good times will come back , and maybe and hopefully within not too long. We get a lot of sympathy from decent people who loves football. Thanks for that.
