Thread | How cr*p are Colchester Utd?

Answers on a postcard to:- Mr R Cowling, Weston Homes Comedy Stadium, Colchester.
Apart from the embarrassing scoreline against mighty Oxford City, which has been covered by others on here, why were the ticket prices so high? No more than £10 should have been charged for a match like this. Why was the South stand closed again for the sake of saving a few extra quid on staff, when it's the only stand that ever makes a noise? When is this club ever going to have it's 'own' players instead of always being stuffed full of here-today-gone-tomorrow loanees all the time? And when are we going to have a proper manager instead of the clueless clown we have now? Pathetic!!

Thread | Play-off permutations

There are 2 play-off spots up for grabs and the bottom line is we HAVE to beat Yeovil, anything less than a win means we won't finish in the top 7 anyway, whatever the other teams do. So we have to start on the assumption we're going to win which means we can forget about anything the clubs below us do because they won't be able to catch us anyway (unless Wycombe beat Cambridge by at least 6 clear goals, which ain't gonna happen!) Also I think it's a fairly safe bet that Blackpool will take one of the spots with an almost certain home win against Orient (gawd bless 'em!) and their vastly superior goal difference. That leaves only Carlisle, Stevenage and Cambridge that we realistically have to worry about. Carlisle will have to win their away match at Exeter to stay ahead of us, a draw won't be good enough. That looks like a tricky match for them. Likewise Stevenage will have to win their home match against Accrington to stay ahead of us. That looks achievable on paper but they've lost form in recent weeks, so fingers crossed. That leaves Cambridge who will have to win their away game at Wycombe, a possibility but it won't be easy for them. If they do, then we will have to beat Yeovil by one goal more than Cambridge beat Wycombe to finish above them. Again, this seems do-able for us.
So it's all a bit complicated and the chances of all these results going our way is pretty remote, but I'm sure we'd have all settled for such an exciting end to the season back in November when we were second bottom and staring the National League in the face!

How many of you will be renewing your season tickets next season for League 2 football? I got myself a 12 match pack this season (and I couldn't be arsed to attend many of those post Christmas!) but with the stadium likely to be three-quarters empty next season, I can't see the point really. |

Have Col U played ANY away games this season wearing their "home" strip? At Walsall I can't see how blue & white striped shirts and blue shorts clash with red shirts and white shorts, yet they still wore an "away" strip! |

Doesn't look like they're going to win any more matches this season so it all depends on whether they can get 8 draws from the remaining 17 matches. With only 6 points gained from the last 19 matches, it doesn't look likely |

Thread | Can we keep Spurs to single figures?

With relegation all over bar the shouting, the only really meaningful game left for our heroes this season is the Spurs game. Spurs will obviously not be fielding a full strength team, so I fancy Col U to be able to hold them to a single figure scoreline. In fact I think we may even get away with only conceding 6 or 7. Of course I may be too optimistic but it should be an entertaining game with plenty of goals at least. |

The first half "performance" against Barnsley was absolutely woeful but the second half was much better and, if we'd had taken our chances, we could have salvaged an unlikely point from this match. To give Brown his due, I think switching things around a bit at half-time and bringing on Porter made the difference, but the bottom line is that we've now lost 2 vital home games on the bounce against 2 clubs at the bottom of the table and, unless a miracle happens, it looks like Col U will be playing League 2 football next season.
Cowling may as well appoint Brown full-time (I don't think there was any much doubt about it anyway) because I can't see anyone of any quality wanting to come here anyway, given our current plight. Brown will then need to start planning on how to keep Col U in League 2 next season to avoid dropping out of the League altogether because I don't really think there's that much difference in quality between League 1 and League 2, so another struggle will probably be on the cards again next season, even though we'll be in a lower tier.
After another inevitable drubbing at Rochdale next week, I'm dreading what the score against Southend is going to be on Boxing Day....I hope we'll be able to avoid total embarrassment! [Post edited 13 Dec 2015 15:36]

This is the reason why it's vital that a manager is appointed from OUTSIDE the club. The clowns in charge today are just as clueless as Humes about how to stop the rot. It sounded as if Burton didn't even play that well, it's just so easy to score against Col U these days. |

As a relative newcomer to Col U, what's it like to park at the park & ride on the A12 near the stadium? Are there always spaces available and what's it like for getting away afterwards? I'm fed up with taking half an hour or more to get away from the stadium car park after a match and I notice it's half the price of the stadium car park. I'd be grateful for any info from anyone who parks there regularly. |

If current trends continue, Col U are on course to concede almost 100 goals in their 46 league matches this season. Has any team conceded that amount of goals in a season and still avoided relegation? |

Why do Col U get such low home attendances? On Saturday our attendance against Walsall, one of the top teams in this division, was the lowest in League 1 and even half a dozen League 2 attendances were higher. I know the geographical position of Colchester probably doesn't help, being close to Ipswich (although I can't see the attraction of them at the moment!) and within striking distance of London, but Southend are even closer to London and their attendances are always significantly higher than ours. We have an excellent stadium and OK the defence is a shambles but we play attractive attacking football and the entertainment level is usually pretty high, so why the poor crowds? |
