Hill is the mouthpiece, Flitcroft is the brains (who is connected to most players).

Interesting the Barnsley players weren't mourning Hill but all vocal about how happy they are Flicker has got the job.

Of course, there's only a limited amount you can gain from what footballers say :-)

Interesting project the Rochdale manager's job this evening.

Hill - the man who wanted to better himself, only the 2nd man in history with a Rochdale promotion on his CV. He deserved the taste of Championship football having achieved it on merit and unfortunately it went south BUT he wasn't given the chance to see it through by "Don", so will never ever know what "might" have been.

Flitcroft - his mate, his confident and the man so close to the players that they would run through the proverbial brick wall for him. A seeming third choice hot potato man at Barnsley because O'Driscoll and then Butcher would not work with the budget as set.

So get Hill in to the end of the season - with Gareth Griffiths (or similar) whilst Flicker warms the chair for the new Barnsley manager and does our scouting, our recruitment and our planning from the comfort (and resources) of a Championship club. When the inevitable happens and Barnsley are relegated, I'll drive to Oakwell or Bolton myself to get him back to Spotland.

If you think of the access to the broken toys we had the first time was good, think what the contact book is like now. They play football that works, put bums on seats and want to win all the time.

Of course this would mean Barnsley will end up a League 1 club, raped and pillaged of all the best players and potential signings of guys who want to put pen to paper for Hillcroft but there is always collateral damage in battle. It coudln't happen to a nicer club.

So sign them up and give him what he wants to take this club forward. They're the ones responsible for us wanting to see good attacking football and a team that plays "the right way."

It's all Hill's fault!

Thats what happens no matter what... unless you're at the biggest club in the land you're bound to be getting offers for doing well.

I've backed John Coleman throughout his tenure, right up until today even though it's been getting harder to do so. That said, I can't help but feel a small amount of relief. I didn't expect to feel that.

As for Hill, I thought there was no way on this earth that he'd ever want to return. I told people to stop living in the past and to move on, well it looks like the past could well become the present again. Keith Hill is arguably one of the biggest legends ever at Rochdale. Is it a risk to re-appoint him? Yes, quite a big risk. Is it worth the risk? Abso-f#ck!ng-lutely.

It's rarely in a player's interests to mourn the old manager. The king is dead, long live the king and all that. Certainly many of the Barnsley players enjoyed playing for him at Dale and joined him at Barnsley

"Hill is the mouthpiece, Flitcroft is the brains (who is connected to most players)."

That is a statement you have just typed, there are no FACTS there, just an opinion.

Unsubstantiated claims once again.

Hill is egotistical and Flickers seems a very likeable, down to earth guy. Perhaps that's why the players were happier having him in charge than Hill?

Please let this be true. Pretty please.

Because I'd be intrigued at seeing how he gets on without Flicker.

It's early days for us, but David has made a great start to being a manager and a man in his own right, for us.

And hopefully Keith will come and take Wiseman and Done back.

I'm sorry to say this, but if he does return to Dale, he'll be back at a level he's comfortable at. Because our job proved too much for him. His ego, his stubborn nature, was never going to be accepted at this level without the results to back it up.

Flicker's humility, humble nature, and appreciation of all things Barnsley has thus far had a positive effect.
I'll never understand a manager who goes out of his way to rally against the clubs fanbase, in the manner that Keith did.

Good luck, lads and lasses, I fear you'll need it.

No, but you're posting as if they were facts.

Also no issue, but you replied directly to my post where i asked for evidence, evidence is normally a fact. but you just posted your opinion again.

Hill and Griffiths had turned our fortunes around before Flitcroft came in. Stop looking for failure before they even named the manager ffs.

Flickers is well liked because he's purposely getting the fans onside - he's not an idiot.

I can't help but feel that your loathing of Hill stems from the fact that he recognises you were/are punching above your weight in that division; something a lot of your fans seem unable to accept.

Interesting view from the other side of the Pennines...

Is it true that "Don" refused to sack Hill's backroom team the day he pulled the trigger, telling them that walking out was tantamount to breach of contract? If so, I could see why Flicker and the other staff might just have hung around.

The new man keeps them - they survive, they don't. They walk away with a payoff.

The new man sacks them - they walk away with a payoff.

Or Flicker takes charge (as a stop-gap) and Barnsley are relegated - not because their bad people but because in the Championship money talks and Barnsley have the lowest budget in the Championship.

I'll give Flicker until the later of your relegation or the end of the season before he's out of your club. Either way, I can't see you keeping him until your first game of next season.

He's a clueless idiot that's why we hate him, we've held on too long in sacking him and it'll see us relegated, but we'll be a lot closer to safety at the end then we would have been if we had kept hill, and if we'd have pushed him out a month or so earlier i think we would be in the championship again next season everyone who watched us could see the problems and his failings apart from him,

As for punching above our weight, i think everyone knows that, we've got the lowest wage bill in the league and we're trying to run at a profit in a league full of teams spending money like it grows on trees

Cheeseman saying it's Hill on 19:10 - Jan 21 with 1634 viewsWhiteyBFC

How can we, as a club who have spent more seasons as a second tier club (76) than any other, be classed as "punching above our weight"?????

If it's a reference to money and budgets (as Keith kept whingeing about day in day out) then I refer you to 96/97 when we had the lowest budget yet were promoted to the Premier League on that budget. We had similar attendances, too. So it's nonsense, and an excuse for any manager that comes here and gets the push.

We're a second tier club on merit. We are where we deserve to be.

And I don't "loathe" Hill. I backed him to the hilt, despite everything pointing to him being out of his depth.
He was sacked way too late, with the benefit of hindsight, but that's our fanbase for you, not ONCE did we call for his head.
There were 'Keith Hill's Red and White Army' chants in the first 20 minutes of his final game.

It's hilarious reading/listening to outsiders mocking our club and it's supporters as though we've delusions of grandeur.
We just want/expect our team to give 100%, our manager to represent that team and club/fanbase, and for us to fight for what we've achieved over 125 years.

Any manager who insists we are punching above our weight is in the wrong job. But at least if Keith returns to Dale he'll be back punching at his own weight, at a club that's at it's own true level.

We've heard it all before mate, and we know more about Keith Hill than you do, so rant away, but you're wasting your time.

We're only too aware of his faults, but a trip to Wembley (first), a promotion (first in 40 years) and our highest ever finish in the football league says he's not a clueless idiot

Did I call him a clueless idiot? No.

I merely stated he was out of his depth at this level.

He was Judas on here on June 1st 2011. What's changed, eh?

I feel exactly the same as you Chaff. I have really wanted to and tried very hard to back Coleman but am also relieved to hear the news today. It wasn't the recent poor results that have made me change my mind about Coleman, but the rumours and ill-discipline from both players and management.
Now Hill can be annoying at the best of times and will always have a pop at the fans when things aren't rosy - but there was so much more to enjoy in the football we saw when he was manager.
I agree, also, that it is a big risk to appoint him but let's go for it!
