I'd like Smith to get an actual chance. Has never let us down and been hugely unlucky this season. Hill definitely, would like to see Derry stay and also join the coaching staff. HH has another season anyway and we know what he can do so definitely worth having around. | |

Hill 1 year = As he will be great back up.
Balanta 1 year = Should look to play him in a midfield attacking role. but as a squad player.
Buz 1 year = As we may need some back up if we run into injury problems as we did this year
The rest can go along with transfers out for:
Bothroyd = £1m to Cardiff
Hulse = Free
Smith = Free
Connolly = £500k to Reading
Derry = £200k to Leeds (I am afraid in the new world Derry would never get a game so, no point holding him back).
Barton = Free to Galatasaray (They will take anyone)
Young = Free to Reading/Southampton
Cerny = Free to some Czech team

Including Hulse, Connolly and Bothroyd added to that list makes 16 wasters.
Keep Barton and SWP on the bench all next season and they might get the message and look elsewhere.
That leaves Smith, Hill & Helgusson plus the 14 decent players in yesterday's squad.
That's a huge amount of Paladini Moolar taken off the wage bill to be spent on getting another 4 or 5 young players who make an effort like Mackie, Cisse, Hill, Derry, Tarbs, etc.
No more "buying experience" - we have that in spades. | |

Hill definitely. Derry also. Both these players thought they wouldnt get much game time this year but did. I doubt either will be regular starters next year but would love club to keep them for their attitude and leadership qualities. They are the sort of players you want as part of a back room. Re Cerny, if he's happy to be back up keeper i'd keep him because i suspect Kenny will leave because Hughes will definitiely want a new keeper. | |

Having read what others have written, this maybe controversial, but my answer is:
none of them - and yes that includes Hill.
I have loved Clint Hill's determination, and how he has been the leader of that defence. But - he is too old and slow for the premiership unless we are playing Stoke every week, which we are not. the first aqusisitons I hope we make are 2 CBs and a GK.
If we gave Hill a contract it would be for sympathy only (as with Shittu this year), as if he is our regular CB we are in trouble nect year IMO. he would be nothing more than a back up. Why give a new contract to some old pro who is only going to be a back up.
the same applies to Buzz (albeit to a lesser extent).
Cerny is going to retire - his back is knackered.
