Mel Johnson Interview - now on the Patreon 11:14 - Dec 3 with 11229 views | Northernr | Former chief scout at QPR responsible for some of our best signings - Rowlands, Shittu and Cook first time around, Osayi-Samuel second time around - kindly sat down with us last Tuesday afternoon. We chatted about the rebuilding of that team and its recruitment hits (and misses, Bob Taylor), culminating in the promotion at Hillsborough. Part one is pure nostalgia, and examining the method behind the madness. Some interesting names here that we were in for that I hadn't heard before - WE DID WANT CLIVE MENDONCA!!! Part two talks about discovering Adel while at Spurs, coming back to Rangers and spotting Bright, and more contemporary discussion around data/analytics vs old school scouting. Both parts available to all three sub tiers now... https://www.patreon.com/posts/mel-johnson-part-117208330 https://www.patreon.com/posts/mel-johnson-part-117208447

Mel Johnson Interview - now on the Patreon on 15:16 - Dec 4 with 3164 views | daveB | That was a brilliant few hours, what a fascinating man with so many stories to tell. He sounded genuinely upset about the ways its gone at QPR Any chance we can his son to run recruitment at QPR.
Mel Johnson Interview - now on the Patreon on 15:58 - Dec 4 with 3095 views | Superhoop83 | Just finishing part one. A great listen and a reminder of how enjoyable 2002-05 was, certainly compared with what has happened since, with a few exceptions and the first promotion to the Premier League.

Mel Johnson Interview - now on the Patreon on 21:25 - Dec 4 with 2682 views | w7r | Spent yesterday "WFH" and listening to this, a fantastic interview with Mel. Rose-tinted specs, sands of time and all that, yeah I know we were skint, shaking buckets, but those players, the management team, the staff and the fans, all in it together - the best of times and the worst of times. The club on its arse but it brought out the best in people - all of those involved with the club pulling together and felt like they cared, and it showed. Mel recounting his time with us reminded me of those days and what a special group that was. Forgot to add, thanks for getting that interview Clive! [Post edited 4 Dec 22:01]

Mel Johnson Interview - now on the Patreon on 09:25 - Dec 5 with 2259 views | Northernr | Chris Day we've chased for a while and never quite nailed, next time he's in the Crown I'll try again. Campy I know his dad but Lee's not overly keen. Rowly we thought about but I heard him on the QPR Podcast and he's very much from the "what goes in the dressing room stays in the dressing room" school of old pro. Cook 'd love but I'm not sure I'd be able to get through it without professing my undying love for him. Stuart Wardley might be on the cards.
Mel Johnson Interview - now on the Patreon on 09:45 - Dec 5 with 2207 views | daveB | bit hard to do as he still works at the club but Paul Furlong has been at QPR for pretty much the last 20 years so he'd be a fascinating interview
Mel Johnson Interview - now on the Patreon on 09:46 - Dec 5 with 2206 views | TheChef | Yeah Rowly strikes me as one who keeps his cards close to his chest - compared say to Gallen. Daisy I reckon would be good value.

Mel Johnson Interview - now on the Patreon on 09:51 - Dec 5 with 2174 views | Jevlar | I certainly know now, Chef! My personal fave is when Warnock would occasionally call him TARBS, like his actual name was Adel Tarbuck!! [Post edited 5 Dec 10:47]

Mel Johnson Interview - now on the Patreon on 12:06 - Dec 5 with 1996 views | TacticalR | Thanks for that. You and Mel seemed like two peas in a pod with your knowledge of players that we bought and players that we missed out on. I thought that, despite all the details, Mel's method of actually selecting a player remained quite mysterious. The days of the scout as craftsman seem to be drawing to a close. Maybe it's too labour-intensive.
