It’s another exciting encounter in the EFL Championship, and it’s very exciting too. Here is the Matchday thread for this exciting game, it’s really interesting.

The Graeme Potters and the Super Swans face off again in ( C’mon ) Stoke. Not the best of hunting grounds for the swans over the years and especially after recent results, there are easier places to go. Like Canterbury for instance, the cathedral there allows access to get some lovely graveside rubbings done. On the plus side during Cooper’s last post match press gathering he had the look of a man who had already had his face rubbed with a rubby thing or whatever they use to do these things.

History
Stoke City v Swansea City

Games won: 30. Stoke City are in the ascendancy here
Games drawn: 21. Neither side has drawn more than the other
Games lost: 24. Or should we say games won by Swansea

There are other considerable and memorable moments in history, not necessarily related to this fixture, just in history itself. The Chinese are allegedly the First Nation to invent the grape, that was around 7000 years BC ( Before Cooper ) although that would be 9,000 years BC ? In any event photographs from back then show grapes being sold in markets and fermented in to wine. It is now known by crossing a very small balloon and a drop of water the grape is made. Cleaver folk the Chinese. That may lead me on to who invented the balloon, but not in this particular thread.

A picture of the first grapes discovered by Chinese people way back before TV and motorised teeth

Incredible when you think that at no time have they featured on a takeaway menu. I’ll mention it next time I’m down my local takeaway the ‘Thai Tanic’ although it’s more favourable the guys who run ‘Chipsy Kings’ will be more responsive. My favourite takeaway in my neck of the woods is ‘For cod and for Ulcer’ over in the red, white and blue part of town. Great battered sausages. Although I’m a vegan, if I wasn’t they would be on my menu, but they aren’t. If it had a face and you eat it you are a part of the problem, not the solution, especially for pigs.

Stoke City Facts
Stoke City have had to put up with several rugby references over the years, so much so the football league now allow them to run whilst carrying the ball.

A Stoke player in action in the past, see how he glides with the ball in one hand ?

Pre-match trivia

Stoke are unbeaten in their last nine home league games against Swansea (W7 D2), winning each of their last four in a row.

Swansea last completed a league double over Stoke back in 2000-01 in the third tier.

Stoke have lost their last two games in the Championship, while they have only lost three in a row in the competition once previously under Michael O’Neill (in December 2019).

Swansea have suffered defeats in two of their last three Championship games (W1), as many defeats as they had in their previous 17 league games combined.

Both of Stoke boss Michael O’Neill’s previous Championship games against Swansea have ended 2-0, with Stoke winning one and losing the other. Their 2-0 victory did come in this exact fixture last season, however.

Ready enough to score against Man City!!

I’d have to agree - let’s change and bench Lowe and bring him on against tired legs. He’ll be fresh enough to hopefully get some late goals and will definitely freshen our tired defensive set up.

Playing Whittaker or Hourihane to start alongside Ayew. Maybe even rest Ayew (on the bench) against Wycombe and play Whittaker with CH just behind?

No bad is it only three chances but six shots on target i do wish some of our so called supporters would watch the game. By the way Stoke had only two shots on target all evening and we gave them a goal start. Brilliant substitution this evening only one team in it after he came on.

Lowe even though he isn't doing much in an attacking sense is still doing his closing down and the defensive side of his job well in tandem with Ayew as the 1st line of defence. His positioning is still good.

Maybe Cooper doesn't think Whittaker is quite up to speed doing that side of it yet? Which is why we've only seen him come on when we need to gungho.

Stoke enjoyed a raft of favorable refereeing decisions when our players had made fair tackles they were penalized and stoke got away with a lot. That disrupted our flow but we played some decent stuff on times and moved the ball well .

Sky showed two graphics during the second half- when Stoke switched to a flat back 4 they were up 70-30 % in possession - when CH came on it went 72- 28 in our favour. A great sub, needed to be made and he made it.

The one big criticism I have is we lacked calmness on the ball, tried to force passes which didn’t make their targets and through that disrupted our own rhythm. If we just play the ball around and keep possession the gaps open up. Other than that a tremendous 3 points

The pass you're talking about was outstanding, but Joey looked a shadow of himself unfortunately (fortunately for us yesterday). Their fans reaction to him starting spoke volumes and surprised me at the time, but their fears were warranted.

I thought we dominated the midfield until O'Neill made a change, that was then countered by Cooper bringing on an extra body in Hourihane, which is what I have been crying out for. Manage the game.

If he felt the touch he had every right to go down.

We have had it done to us often enough, Bristol away a prime example

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

I agree but how many times do you see players trailing their legs into the defender looking for a penalty and get booked its still classed as "looking for it".. And not right but if you can get it brilliant he knew what he was doing got his body across him and looked for contact and went down easy..

There was an arm on his shoulder from the young diving stoke player so he could have been trying to shake him off . That and trying to get in front of someone running behind in close proximity can obviously cause a coming together. For the record I don’t think KN has ever been a cheat or a diver so I’d give him the benefit of the doubt.

The only thing that's dead certain about this is that, if the roles were reversed, and it was in our box Clarke would 100% have gone down. He'd thrown himself to the floor all the second half. Oh, the irony.

Right, running at speed a player doesn’t break stride but still sticks his leg out behind him looking for a possible contact! The Stoke player had already run into Naughton's back stuck a left arm on him, pulled him with the right arm and the clipped his leg.
It was a penalty
It was not a dive

Clarke would have added a triple somersault with pike before rolling half way down the M6

It's not the only cast iron certainty. I 100% guarantee if that was given against us we'd be livid.

I hate this idea that feeling contact is a reason to go down. There has to be enough contact to take you down, if players fell over every time someone else touched them then every corner would see 10 players hit the deck.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I agree - and I hate the phrase "entitled to go down". There are too many soft penalties given in football - in fact there are too many soft free kicks given, full stop. Last night's was on the soft side. But until things change across the board, we're as entitled to soft penalties as the next team.

Stoke City v Swansea City : Matchday Thread THE AFTERMATH on 13:31 - Mar 4 with 837 viewsvetchonian

Sadly this is the issue with the "modern" game....players look to take advantage of any contact.....also what would have been deemed a "fair" tackle even 5 years ago will often be classed as a foul.....its crept into the game like this fatigue malarky...and whilst apparantly we should compare the past to the modern game ....these thigs all contribute....the likes of Bremner, Hunter, Smith, Harris and the legend that is Whyndham would not survive 90 mins if 45 mins these days before the ref showing red!

Even more sadly this has been the main talking point about the game rather than how we pulled ourselves back from 1 nil down ....again after gifting the opposition a goal, how we played well with determination, some nice passing football,Freddie looking back to his "best" with quick distribution form him....showing how we dusted ourselves down form Saturday and prved everyone wrong.

Listening to Radio Wales last night we had a crisis apparantly as we had now lost 2 out of our last 3 games.....and could this be the first time we had back to back losses...CRISIS ....a crisis is what happened up the road where they lost 5 consecutive games in a spell where they won 1 in game in a run of 7!

It was a vicious lunge and Kyle Naughton could have been killed.

Mr Missus icked up on Kyle ome time before in a challenge when he clearly got an impact that would not have inconvenienced a 10 yr old. To rub one's face looking for any sign of "blood" is what a 10 yr old does to prove he 's tough and can take a bang.

Kyle ,like AA ,is prone to either injury or feigning it. Fact.

Contrast him with Guehi who screwed up but kept at it in honest fashion and young Ben who is a really good honest pro even at 20. He actually gets pelters from our experts on here. Fletcher tried to bully them both and they kept solid. Great

So, Guehi screwing up and conceding a goal but carrying on "honestly" (whatever that means) is comparable/contrastable to Naughton checking if he's "bleeding" after contact? OK.

Guehi is very "experienced" for one so young. You'll no doubt have noticed that he "wins" free kicks for us in much the same way that Connor Roberts does - with a snigger from Anthony O'Connell and Alan Curtis.
