In essence we have added one new first teamer in Adams. With the same defence as last season you have to expect similar results.

Hopefully the Ralph effect carrys on.

I will give it until Thursday at 5pm before writing it off completely, but it certainly doesn't look good at the moment. Big question marks over quite how Ross Wilson hung on to his job in the last executive clear out, and even bigger ones now if the situation stays as it is (after all, he had significant influence in handing out all these juicy fat contracts left, right and centre).

Say what you like about Gao's commitment, but at the end of the day we are able to re-invest whatever funds are raised from sales back into the playing staff. If we can't raise any funds in the first place, that isn't the owner's fault that is dodgy management.

I agree that this is the window where we really get a chance to find out what Gao is all about, and so far he's shown little willingness to invest in the team (especially when you add in that we bought nobody in January, and the seemingly dodgy sponsorship deal).

Still a few more days to go yet thought. Things might still change.

I agree, shockingly poor unless something amazing happens in the next 72 hours
The initial buzz about Ralph attracting a couple if RB Leipzigs best ever here seems to have vanished
Adams looks a great addition if his pre season is anything to go on
Denepro looks like he will need 6 months to acclimatise, smacks a little of another Elyounoussi lets hope not!
And we all know where the real work was needed
a draw at Burnley would be a good start

I understand he wants to give everybody a chance but what is worrying me is that Ralph has been playing Hoedt a fair bit in pre season.I hope he doesn't feel that keeping Hoedt is the answer. All of our CB's are bang average at best (Bednarek aside maybe). If we can get a decent one in and maybe another CM then I would say its a decent window but otherwise its a very poor window and a season of hoping we can just outscore other teams!

I thought it was common knowledge that Gao isn’t going to invest in the playing side and has said it has to be sustainable, i.e. any acquisitions have to be funded by sales.

I don’t think we have invested this summer. The Ings purchase effectively used up the last dregs of the van Dick money. Adams was funded by Targett’s sale.

This is pretty how much how it is.

We really need to sell Lemina.

Amazing that the more money we generate from tv, the less there seems to be for squad improvements.

Good of you to give Djenepo 10 minutes before casting your expert opinion on him.

Isn’t it the case it’s not just freeing up budget by clearing players out, but that we also have to reduce the number of squad players to be able to accommodate new ones?

It seems that that is how it is, but it's still disappointing.

Means that Gao is the man to 'sustain' the club but probably not to 'take it forward'.

He didn't have to go bonkers but some additional funds to enable us to buy better than we sell would have shown a more positive intent.

And given that we have overspent on certain players in the last years, and will likely have to suffer a loss on them, selling before we buy is likely to take us backwards (slightly).

Though it arguably means we won’t waste so much money on crap signings.

Exactly. This is what people don't seem to be willing to understand. We've got something like 30 senior players on the books, you can only name a squad of 25, so come next week as things stand we are going to have 5 players sitting around all season picking up a wage and not playing, We've got 3 Goalkeepers,6 centre backs FFS. Its insanity. Anyone with any ounce of intelligence can understand it what needs to happen and why.

I hear what you say DH, but treating players that way is not exactly going to make SFC an attractive proposition for new recruits if that’s the way we treat those we no longer need.

players have very tight contracts unlike normal workers who can get shafted with redundancy without any real comeback

And the White Knight is talking backwards And the Red Queen's off with her head

Football contracts don’t work like that though, do they?

Our best case is probably that we loan some of them out but still have to subsidise their wages. Painful.

Blame Les unfortunately.

Adams and Ings are two great signings. How is this our worst window?

The club aren't necessarily holding out for transfer fees, look at Clasie. It's the players who are demanding huge wages and lengthy contracts (Austin) - so you can't blame the club for that.

Still hope that Lemina will go this week and hopefully Carillo.

Certainly, if we're not spending, we're not wasting.

Maybe we've just been unlucky. Hoedt, Carrillo and Elyounoussi all terribly disappointing.

Three out and two in on deadline day is my prediction. You heard it here first.
