The problem is that a 'redundancy' argument doesn't work because you have to show that that job no longer exists for it to be a redundancy. And it's not that the job doesn't exist, it's that the club prefer someone else to play.

So simply cancelling the contract would be a clear breach and the player could claim damages. On the assumption that the contract is fixed term for fixed money, the 'loss' for the breach is the lost wages over the term.

There will be a few more subtleties to it than this, but this is the gist of it. Most employees don't have fixed term contracts for a number of years in roles that can't really ever disappear.

Incredibly naive post which highlights your lack of understanding not just of anything football related but anything to do with employment law. “Ian” has given a decent enough response so I won’t repeat him, but just to confirm no we can’t just get rid of them or make them redundant you complete dumball.

Think about it.

Club: Charlie, you're on 90 day notice gardening leave.
Charlie: Why?
Club: Your position is up for discussion as we don't think it'll fit in the new org structure
Charlie: But I'm a striker, are you telling me the club won't have a position for a striker?
Club: No, we will play 6-4-0

Yeah, doesn't work.

CBgate .... Upandcoming or whatever his name is .. 65 mil bid turned down (presunably not from us!) ....... guess he is not on our radar. Meanwhile Bomo rate Ake at 75 mil ...... has the world gone phucking mad.

Hoedt and Stephens it is then.

DH didn’t feel like contemplating why no club in the history of modern football has ever done what he is suggesting. He probably should have consulted Sunderland fans about their experience with Jack Rodwell before embarrassing himself again

I reckon we should make Forster redundant and tell him we are playing without goalkeepers from now on.

It's easy this Dellhero isn't it pal.

I don't care about dodgy sponsors or the fact that little tarquin can't get his replca shirt.
I am bothered we haven't improved our defence. If we can get someone in then it's been a relatively good window.
Nicks favourite phrase is if we do the same things we get the same results. Well if we play the same defence we'll leak the same goals.

Of course, no club is absolutely stuck with players they don't want. If they have deep pockets and a real desire to trim the squad, then they would enter into negotiations with a player to hopefully terminate the contract by mutual consent.

The club would be forgoing any possibility of a future transfer fee, and the player would be 'free' to join another club without the need for a transfer fee, which should (in theory) increase the wages they would be likely to attract. Whatever they received would also be paid upfront and would be in additional to the wages they get at their new club, so should be an attractive position for them - money for nothing, in effect.

All this said, the club would still likely have to put its hand in its pocket to some extent and would lose out on the transfer fee, and there now seems to be a consensus on here that our club has nothing in its pockets anyway.

Your builder mate will not have people on 3- to 5- year fixed term contracts. That's the significant difference.

They can't just break them without consequence. FIFA has strict rules on the circumstances in which a player can just walk away. The club could claim damages from them. No new club would sign them until they were clear that any previous contract had been properly terminated.

Rules in relation to contract are there to make sure that both club and player have some medium term security. Important in terms of building a team over a number of seasons and (from the club's perspective) making sure that the person they pay a whopping transfer fee for is actually going to play for them for a few years.

Making utterly absurd suggestions like making a striker redundant isn't finding ways to solve the problem pal, it just shows you're a bit dense and dont understand how things work.

No "meltdown" here pal, i just point and laugh at all the sad sacks on here of which there are plenty.

You can keep ignoring it all you like but the players we want rid of can't be made redundant because their jobs still exist. For once I really think you should delete all the posts you've made in this thread because you're coming across a bit mad.

DellHero,

you can’t make footballers on contracts redundant.

Get your head around that please, it’s very simple.
