What has happened to Sylla? on 09:43 - Oct 9 with 6534 views | colinallcars | No word on him at all. I know some people rate him but successive managers seem to overlook him and despite being available for loan or transfer, no club came in for him. I though with the departure of Caulker and JET we'd gone past the situation of paying players for no return.
What has happened to Sylla? on 09:47 - Oct 9 with 6522 views | Lblock | I’d say both For some reason he’s not been fancied by Ollie or Schteveee There’s plenty around me who feel the same but I really like the guy - his goals statts speak for themselves. My theory (not backed up by facts) is that he’s sort of on strike. He knows he’s basically finished here with the loaned players and Smith ahead of him; so an injury is “holding him back”. Such a shame as if the situation had been managed correctly we could’ve had a £5mill fee for him and/or a hatful or goals.

What has happened to Sylla? on 10:19 - Oct 9 with 6434 views | Toast_R | He can't score goals if he aint playing and that seems to have been the problem. Best game I've seen from him was vs Sunderland in the Cup a couple of seasons ago. Seemed to play the target man role well that night. I'd always have him on the bench for when we need a late goal. Shocking when you consider the game time Connor Washington was given. [Post edited 9 Oct 2018 10:20]

What has happened to Sylla? on 10:36 - Oct 9 with 6400 views | stevec | Think oppositions have wised up to any danger they faced by making sure the ball was resting at his feet and not being played into his arse or kneecap. The goals certainly dried up.

What has happened to Sylla? on 13:53 - Oct 9 with 5998 views | SimonJames | I'm sure if he'd got as much game time as Washington did considerably more goals would have been scored by us.

What has happened to Sylla? on 13:57 - Oct 9 with 5996 views | derbyhoop | Clearly well out of favour. He's got a good scoring record but successive managers believe he doesn't offer too much away from the 6 yard box. With Wells, Hemed, Matt Smith as strikers and BOS, Smyth and, even Oteh, he's not going to get much of a chance.

What has happened to Sylla? on 13:59 - Oct 9 with 5994 views | californiahoop | Yes it’s very strange, If it’s about closing down players, Smitb doesn’t do that, very strange, as mentioned above, managed correctly, we could have got a fee for him. I think he is at least worth a place in the bench, but if all the managers we have had recently, I like SM do will have to trust his judgment.

What has happened to Sylla? on 15:41 - Oct 9 with 5852 views | VancouverHoop | It is odd. I like Sylla too, but I can sort of see why managers don't. He's an old fashioned goal-hanger, gets dizzy in his own team's half of the pitch. Yes he scores a few goals but doesn't do anything else. Smith, for all his immobility, puts in an important shift defensively. Washington was the anti-Sylla, ran around an awful lot with no end product, he got more games because he looked like he might start scoring one day through sheer effort, unfortunately that day never came. I'd have thought Sylla as a late sub when we really need a goal is worth keeping around but obviously the football men know better.

What has happened to Sylla? on 16:46 - Oct 9 with 5731 views | BklynRanger | Massively out of favour I'd guess which seems like a total waste at this point in our history. From what I've seen of Hemed so far I think it would have made more sense to have just got Wells in and allow Smyth, Smith and Sylla to fight for the other spot.

What has happened to Sylla? on 22:00 - Oct 9 with 5348 views | Lblock | "if the situation had been managed correctly we could’ve had" You don't agree with that then? Obviously Sylla's stats and goals per minute return is a pure fluke, a flash in the pan and what could've come is madness to consider? 5Mill fee - ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I give you exhibt A "Gary Madine" - rumoured fee to Cardiff from Bolton SIX MILL If you think Sylla could not have been sold for that or maybe more IF he'd kept returning goals at the rate he has then you need to get with where this hideous modern game is going. Hatful of goals - I can't be bothered to dig his goals per minute out but it's good, up there with the best. If I offered you Gary Lineker in his pime (for relative speaking sake) would you sign him? Sylla's game is all about the penalty box -if we'd serviced him with crosses and cut backs he'd be one in two for absolutely sure. I also think he does a lot more than he's given credit for but will always look a bit sanguine which is a shame. Anyway.... he's sure to be another released in Jan at a loss and then we'll be scratching our heads when the loanees have gone back in the summer and Matt Smith is slower and Oteh not ready and.... Maybe you can't see the above, a lot of refs don't see the game the same way as me so no worries.

What has happened to Sylla? on 08:57 - Oct 10 with 5148 views | californiahoop | I agree, I believe he was mistreated by the previous management but, he should have rubbed the slate clean and fought for a place this season, we still lack a real goal threat and he is certainly that, but if he’s now not performing in training then, that’s it, I hope it’s an injury.
What has happened to Sylla? on 09:11 - Oct 10 with 5124 views | PunteR | Its funny how we seem to underprice/ undervalue our players. Sylla goals per game is pretty good isnt it?

What has happened to Sylla? on 09:19 - Oct 10 with 5111 views | PlanetHonneywood | Given the fact he’s in and out of the team, it’s not a bad haul. Blokes like him need to be playing and once they’ve got their eye in, the ball can go in off their backsides. Not sure what was seen in him, and while he’s not the best, it strikes me he’s never been played right i.e. just get on the end son. He must’ve looked at Washington and thought, if only I was as poor as you I’d get more of a chance!!

What has happened to Sylla? on 09:19 - Oct 10 with 5111 views | californiahoop | Yes it is/was, I think we may have lost the chance to make money on him, pity!
What has happened to Sylla? on 09:34 - Oct 10 with 5094 views | BrianMcCarthy | I get that the goals per games ratio is good but despite that I just don't think we can carry him. Opposing teams don't seem to select "finishers" anymore and nearly all modern attackers now have work rate as well, so when we play Sylla it's 10 v 11 for lots of stretches of possession. He simply does not work hard enough at running the channels, tracking back, challenging or showing for the hard ball. We can't afford to carry a player who'll rely on ten players to get the ball into the box for him. If he leaves at a loss then he'll only have himself to blame, because if he'd pulled his finger out he could have been really good for us.

What has happened to Sylla? on 09:35 - Oct 10 with 5093 views | PunteR | Tbf Washington worked a lot harder, tracking back etc . But end of the day you need your strikers to score goals. Washington didn't have it in his locker. Sylla does. For a club that keeps complaining were skint we seem to bin a lot of stuff and replace with shiny new things still.

What has happened to Sylla? on 09:37 - Oct 10 with 5092 views | stevec | My lasting memory of Sylla will be Villa at home about a year ago. Freeman won the ball back on the SAR byeline 30 yards from our goal. Dribbled past 2 more Villa players and went on a 50 yard run towards the centre of their goal. In all that time Sylla moved about a fckin yard. No wonder Freeman had forgotten how to lift his head up, what was the point?
What has happened to Sylla? on 09:51 - Oct 10 with 5067 views | PlanetHonneywood | I hear you, but any lump can run around and look busy. However, while even the likes of Messi always put a shift in, it’s not always about how hard you work, but how smart you work. And maybe the reality of IS was that he was not a smart buy in the circumstances. But he’ll get you goals whereas no amount of huffing and puffing from CW will ever amount to a hill of beans.

What has happened to Sylla? on 10:17 - Oct 10 with 5026 views | PunteR | Its a weird one though. All the tracking back and running the channels etc might be good on the eye but pretty pointless if the ball doesn't go in the net. Ive never been a massive fan of his, he hardly uses his head and like you say there's lots of elements to his game that needs improving but this goal scoring malarkey takes a fair amount of skill and luck. Its part of the game we've struggled with. I remember Austin getting criticism for not doing all the other parts of the game that's now deemed essential for strikers , although tbf to him he changed that and worked his socks off(plus score goals). Gary Lineker was one of England's top strikers yet he rarely put a shift in. The games changed now obviously, but it seems a little crazy not to play a player who has a knack for scoring goals.

What has happened to Sylla? on 10:26 - Oct 10 with 5013 views | robith | Interesting that people presume he's on strike or such - my understanding is that the club desperately tried to offload him in the window a la Washington, and him not playing is entirely down to McClaren, who has shown a willingness to completely discard players (Smyth springs to mind)
