Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 17:36 - Sep 9 with 2623 views | this_charming_man | 5 games, 4 at home, all of them winnable and just one win and one goal from open play. We seem to be worse now than last season. Claude Puel must be feeling quite smug right now.

Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 17:48 - Sep 9 with 2559 views | Heisenberg | All about team selection and tactics today. The midfield was getting over ran so Pellegrinno swaps Boufal for Tadic. He then takes off our striker at 2 nil down. As soon as I saw the team I knew we were going to struggle. A big strong side so we put up 3 midfielders who can't put a tackle in. Every manager gets his team selection wrong. Good ones see what's going wrong then change things. The fact that this manager failed to see it today and then when he made changes they were all wrong is extremely worrying. No bed wetting but if this performance is repeated we will find ourselves right in it. You can forget top 10 finishes. Will be interesting to see how the Chinese react when the proverbial starts hitting the fan.

Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 17:48 - Sep 9 with 2555 views | rjh | Be careful what you wish for. I was a keep Puel man. How is this any better than last year? That is one of the worst home performances since we came back up. Absolutely awful.
Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 17:50 - Sep 9 with 2544 views | rjh | It is also great to say we are not a selling club but I think deep down we have a few players who really don't want to be here and you can tell.
Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 18:00 - Sep 9 with 2509 views | grumpy | I wasn't for keeping Puel,we've just failed to replace him adequately. Early days I know but he looks like a rabbit caught in the headlights at the moment.
Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 18:24 - Sep 9 with 2451 views | dune | That's the last two Reed managers that are crap, 50% of the others couldn't work for him. Time to get rid of Reed.

Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 18:25 - Sep 9 with 2446 views | larry12 | Pelligrino cannot polish the tur*gid squad that Les Reed forced on him AND then did not improve it during the window. Lots of Saints fans are falling into the Les Reed trap and blaming the Manager totally. MP can't make rubbish brilliant.
Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 18:31 - Sep 9 with 2428 views | Heisenberg | Absolute tosh. It's a stronger squad than last years which finished 7th and got to a Cup final. You're irrational obsession with Les Reed has clearly addled your brain. Today's result and performance was down to the manager and players. Mainly the manager and his poor team selection and inability to change things when things weren't working.

Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 18:41 - Sep 9 with 2380 views | Heisenberg | Accepted but generally they have been good managers. Jury's out on this one but Larry the Reed obsessed clown seems to suggest that Les Reed has weakened the squad this season which clearly isn't the case.

Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 18:42 - Sep 9 with 2373 views | professor_peach | It lacked dynamism and purpose today. Too static up front apart from Gabbiadini. Gave up possession too easily and didn't close down and stay tight when they had the ball. Not sure the manager is up to it. Will see.
Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 18:56 - Sep 9 with 2336 views | pete_boggs | Reed has systematically run the squad down in the last 10 windows by selling high and buying cheap (when he finally concluded a sale where he dithered so long). His flawed strategy is finally coming home to roost as I predicted ages ago. You're the clown for being so easily duped by the 'Great Supremo'.

Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 19:01 - Sep 9 with 2322 views | Heisenberg | Yep. From League 1 to consecutive top ten finishes and a Cup final. Reed has been an absolute disaster. One question. How would you have kept all the players that have left ? All were sold to bigger clubs offering far more money than we can afford .Some were sold at great profit and all have been replaced. Your obsession with Reed is laughable.

Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 19:16 - Sep 9 with 2273 views | pete_boggs | One answer. Hold them to their contracts then sell when there's one or two years remaining. Otherwise why was Reed crowing about how he had personally managed to sign everyone including the Tea Lady to contracts into perpetuity? Your devotion to our Great Leader is puzzling to say the least when we've got our worst ever scoring record and no quality subs to come on and change things. Our results will only improve when we BUY SOME PLAYERS!

Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 19:17 - Sep 9 with 2263 views | patred | nail on the head, unfortunately, Dune. There's nothing we can do, Reed, being made a director, makes it impossible for him to be removed under normal circumstances. The only hope is that he see's that he, himself, is not up to it, and gets a DOF in that can do the job. We have a man highly qualified as a youth coach, and to be fair he is a very good at that level. But, as proved at Charlton AFC, has little professional football league management skills or nous at this level. Yet he rules the roost over people who have those proven skills. He has almost the final say on who comes in or goes out player wise. He has total control over what manager stays or goes. As a result, we have lost good managers unnecessarily, lost good players unnecessarily on a regular basis. He is not totally to blame, as he had a very inexperienced predecessor who believed anyone could do that job and refused to recognise we needed an experienced director of football. We are still being held back by Cortese's. And, that philosophy, or experiment I prefer to call it, has to end before we can go forward. The present 'Southampton Way' cannot sustain a top 10 side. But we could still rescue the situation, but it will rely on Reed recognising that major football decisions are better made by people who are experienced at doing so. Having said that, today's defeat was down to the manager's selection and game plan. But that manager was chosen by the DOF. [Post edited 9 Sep 2017 19:23]

Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 19:20 - Sep 9 with 2247 views | Heisenberg | So run down contracts to one of two years left thus lessening there value. Also keep a squad of unhappy players sulking and not committed to the club. Doesn't sound a sensible way forward. And not a good business model which is clearly something you have no idea or understanding of. I'm not devoted to Reed. I just don't blame him when the team plays badly like today. As for managers I thought we should have kept Puel. To sack a manager after finishing 7th and a cup final after one season was stupid. And yes that was Reeds fault.

Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 19:50 - Sep 9 with 2171 views | pete_boggs | Either run down all contracts so all the players know where they are and what they're signing or none. I feel that there has been a bit of lip service with Reed hanging on to some players and letting others go, but the main problem is not replacing quality with more quality. I feel that it is Reeds fault for the performance today because Pellegrino had to field Davis and Prowse and Boufal who have been consistently lacking in attacking success. I agree that Mopo 2 doesn't seem to be an improvement on Puel and, again I think Reed reacted to public pressure and felt he had to sack him which cost SFC £6M. I wish this game had come before the window closed.

Is Pellegrino out of his depth in the Premiership? on 20:08 - Sep 9 with 2109 views | saint68 | A worrying lack of awareness from our new manager/coach, The Huddersfield game should have been nailed by positive instructions/substitutions in the final 15 minutes when we were in the ascendancy and Huddersfield were clearly losing impotus. Still early days, H....and maybe after today's poor show Pellegrino mIght start to think more positively, rather than thinking securing a point against Watford is the minimal requirement.
