Didn't have much choice after his mate Gove stabbed in the back !
BBC assistant political editor Norman Smith says he understands that Michael Gove had not told Boris Johnson he would stand for the Conservative leadership.
Gove ""come to the conclusion that Boris cannot provide the leadership or build the team for the task ahead".

There's something behind the scenes we don't know about Boris. That stuck up Tory bitch on the debate programme made a little comment about "you wouldn't want Boris driving you home.." that was never explained. And then he wrote a piece in the Telegrapgh last week rowing back from the commitments on immigration made during the campaign. I don't really like Gove, he would be a bad choice. I just hope Andrea Leadsom gets through to the final 2 run off as I think she would strike a chord with the Tory grass roots & she would appeal to the public in a general election.
Gove has said he'd never want the job or be any good at it consistently so I can't see how he could possibly be a contender. It's bizarre that he's put his name forward.
Ironically your ironic point is actually correct. The bankers did alright out of the 2008 depression. I say depression because without the money printing that's what it would have been. So to have one in charge of our country would be a very good thing. Unlike so many career politicians she's been there and done, has sat in real world negotiations, and it's people like her that I'd feel a lot more comfortable with running the economy.
Or would you rather has the butch Westwood lookalike labour lesbian in charge?
I don't think a labour lesbian would have the balls to stand up to the EU Commission, so I'd be quite happy for Andrea to get on the job. Can't see her getting it though.

I have a feeling she will beat Gove and get the nomination to go head to head with Teresa May, and then it'll come down to who will stop the swarms of immigrants.
Philip Hammond seems a decent type too. I don't know why we didn't hear more from him.
What we need is someone fairly sensible and reasonable who can wring the necessary concessions out of the EU. Although Farage's speech there was amusing, the likes of him and Boris would have merely made them determined to screw us.

I don't mind them doing their worst. I want WTO rules. Re engage with the world. If they want to put tariffs on us, we put tariffs on them, and because we import more than we sell we are net beneficiaries.
We aren't living in the age is sail ships and pack horses. All the world is accessible to us.
If I was negotiating I would go in there and demand access to the free market, with no restrictions, and no free movement or else we go to WTO rules. Once they knew I was serious and that tariffs would be put on German cars then Merkel would have a rethink.
Nice plan but I'm not convinced it would work. Don't forget they're scared shitless that if they concede too much to us , a lot of other countries will be queuing up at the exit door.
