Donald Trump - Make America Great Again! 11:37 - Jul 25 with 39952 viewsSpiritofGregory

Has anyone else on here been following the American election?

Trump has got all the lefties wound up with his no nonsense, unpolitically correct straight talking.

The Democrats have also got their own version on Corbyn who is rivalling Hilary Clinton.

They owe over 100% of their GDP to lenders, including China. Look it up. Their debt is something over 14 trillion dollars.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_debt_of_the_United_States

See figure showing how their debt was stable till around 1980, has risen since, and has ballooned under Obama. Sorry to confuse you with the facts.

Obama is mortgaging America's future, but he's not the only President to have contributed to this, just the biggest. It's not left wing or ring wing, it's plain economics. You borrow from someone. You are expected to pay them back.

Dig a little deeper brother. If you're really interested in understanding Nation's debt have a look at all the countries (all of them!) that are in debt and to ultimately the private institutions to which they are in debt to. If American debt as a simple as being in debt to the Chinese why are the Chinese in debt also? Large amounts of American debt is to institutions that exist within it. Illusionary stuff. Numbers on easily manipulated computer screens.

yeah all the medias fault, I think in his initial speech he spoke of building a wall to stop mexicans coming in and was quoted as saying " When Mexico sends us their people, they are not sending their best, they are sending drug dealers, criminals and rapists.

"He has given more jobs to Mexicans then you ever will"

Yeah Bluce, you big racist.
Why haven't your multiple billion dollar businesses given more jobs to people who live 5000 miles away?

This is an astonishing bit of trolling, slow golf clap for you SOG

Have to agree, this is a spectacular piece of trolling.

(Not that I ever enter into dialogue with the OP but isn't SoG a she rather than a he?)

To paraphrase the late great Bill Hicks ...

If you respect Donald Trump, everything you say is suspect and every word that comes out of your mouth is now like a turd falling into my drink.

I think that Trump, the Republican front-runner, is a registered Democrat, who is on record praising both Clintons. You don't get to be a real estate magnate without buttering up/bribing politicians and in New York they're mostly Democrats. Bernie Sanders, one of the Democrat front-runners, has never been a member of the Democratic Party.

Trump has walked away from his debts multiple times, he's not fit to run an ice cream van.

I've live in Los Angeles for the past 8 years.
Trump is considered a total prick in the US unless your an uneducated right wing dickhead.
Admittedly most of America fits that bill, but he simply won't get in because the east and west coast of the country hold too many votes and ain't dumb redneck hillbillies.

Poll: Serious concern we'll double drop?

Anyone ever seen a documentary about a golf course Trump put together in Scotland? He came across as a total pr1ck, surprise, surprise, with a lot of help from a certain Alex Salmond!
If that cretin gets anywhere near the White House we are all in deep Sh1t! The man is a total idiot with no coherent policies apart from appealing to a 'red-neck agenda' Just plain embarrassing , SOG he will be history very, very shortly in the presidential race, as someone said on this thread, he makes even the loony right-wingers appalled!Pathetic!

Of course, you are correct, it's not a simple situation, but Bill Clinton's comment re China is telling...

Some thoughts...

1) It's very funny how SoG and the other rightists have their version of political correctness. It seems we must never use the word 'racism' because, you see, that term has 'expired'. It's inappropriate. It doesn't seem to matter whether there really are racists or not, we must just not use the term. But if Trump uses good old-fashioned racism then surely we can do a bit of 'no nonsense, unpolitically correct straight talking' of our own and call him what he is?

2) Capitalists do not 'give jobs', they exploit human labour. They purchase what they need to make profits (land, machinery, offices etc) including labour. If the labour is unprofitable then US employees will be discarded. If a more efficient production process is introduced that needs less labour, then US employees will be discarded. As has been happening for decades, if greater profits can be made abroad then US employees will be discarded.

3) I do not agree with those who say Trump is irrational. The capitalist class is a tiny minority and cannot rule purely through state power (although the US police are becoming militarised). It must therefore try and build a wider base of support, particularly as the American Dream is evaporating. Trump has chosen to do this through racism - he seeks to disguise that he is a member of the super-rich elite by focusing attention on Mexicans in the hope that his 'we're all in this together because we're all white and we're all Americans' rhetoric will get people behind him and keep them tied to the decaying system. It's crude, it shows a complete lack of a positive ideas, but it's perfectly rational.

If you can do it in the States you can do it anywhere.
Geschäft ist Geschäft.
But I'm not quite sure was is meant in the word "great".If you mean post war/50's/60's industrial prosperity - will not happen given the debt, unless some very hard times indeed are endured. Some sort of revolution has to happen, you can't keep on clubbing people over the head and expecting them not to notice. And with all revolutions it will be from the middle classes.

Anybody would be better than Hillary. I bet they now regret not putting Romney in in 2012. Obamacare isnt at all what it was cracked up to be...and people laughed when Romney said Russia was one of the biggest Geo-political threats along side Iran. Looks like he was right if you ask me.

Marco Rubio looks an interesting bloke to me for 2016.

No, but construction jobs don't actually add jobs to the economy, or at least, only add marginally (by the extent that one builder is more efficient than another). The reason for that is that manufacturing and certain service sectors (like finance) compete with corporations in other countries. So, a successful factory in the US building cars, is competing with car manufacturers in Japan, Germany and Korea for business. The more successful the US manufacturer is, the more jobs created in the US. This are jobs added to the economy directly. However, construction doesn't work that way. Basically, US construction companies only compete against other US construction companies. Therefore, if one US company succeeds it doesn't result in a net add of jobs. So, for example, a few years ago Trump competed and won the right to build a luxury hotel in the Old Post Office in Washington DC. He was competing against other US construction companies. The task required lots of construction jobs. However, if Trump had not won the construction contract, then another US construction company would have won the contract creating approximately the same number of jobs. Hence, in national economic terms, the fact that Trump won the contract (which was great for Trump) added no additional jobs to the US economy. In other words, Trump didn't add any jobs because those jobs would have been in the US economy whether he won it or some other construction firm won it.

Obviously, I a simplifying for the sake of the post. If one company is significantly more efficient than the competition, than that would have an impact, but it isn't clear which way, of course. Efficiency could mean building the same building with less workers. But overall, construction is a sector that reacts to the market and sustains jobs, but one particular construction company does not add jobs net to the overall economy.
