The clue to the Trump interest is in the ludicrous fact that the election isn't for another year and a half. The utter, utter, ridiculousity of that means that media outlets, comedians, commentators, and all kinds of other people love Trump and his big wiggy car crash of a campaign. It's a bit of light entertainment to fill up the months before things get more serious and turgid.

What nonsense.
The huge spike in US debt was largely a result of a combination of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the massive tax cuts pushed through by Bush.
Obama's major initiatives were the TARP which initially cost $700 billion and the stimulus.
The TARP was responsible for saving many huge corporations (most of which didn't deserve to be saved) and was probably the largest corporate bailout in history. However, in the long run all of the TARP monies were repaid and the US Treasury made a profit of about $50 billion on the TARP.
The stimulus package cost the US Treasury about $50 billion and turned around the US economy, which was in free fall when Obama came to office. Entire industries (auto manufacturing, airlines, etc) owe their existence to the stimulus and bailout programs which saved them.
Deficit spending always goes up during a recession because as unemployment increases and corporate profits decrease government revenue decreases. So, even if spending stays level, then deficits will increase. The economy has turned around and as a result deficits have been halved over the last two years. At this economic level, the deficit will disappear by 2016-2017. | |
