Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 16:08 - Jul 6 with 5104 views | TimSaint | Yes - confirmed by Ron himself in press conf, but no idea of price at the moment. He can play at Right Back or Centre Back - a bit like someone else we know - so unsure if this signing will be 'an instead of' or 'in addition to'.

Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 17:46 - Jul 6 with 4983 views | ClickInsect | It's lucky we have a phillosophy where we develop the young player of the academy and don't just get squad depth by signing cut price nobodies from other countries! As an indicator of how good this guy is, current Whoscored.com ratings from last season- Florin Gardos: 6.83 Cuco Martina: 6.69 If we sign him, I'll back him as always. But at this point, I'm fully expecting us to start the season 20th in net spend & 16th in wages again. Can't help thinking that the club is operating without any safety net in these budgets, having to hugely overperform to even tread water.

Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 18:13 - Jul 6 with 4896 views | 1885_SFC | From the OS : Koeman says the club are working on a deal to bring FC Twente defender Cuco Martina to St Mary's following the news that Ryan Bertrand will miss the start of the season. “We are working to sign another defender and the rest is up to the situation on Toby [Alderweireld] and Morgan [Schneiderlin],” Koeman added. “We are interested in the player (Martina) because Ryan had a small surgery ten days ago on both knees and he will be out for the coming weeks. “The number of defenders we have is too small. We need more competition. Martina is available in three or four positions in defence. That gives us more players, more defenders to play a tough season. “It’s difficult (Bertrand’s injury), it’s always difficult but around five weeks.”

Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 18:16 - Jul 6 with 4890 views | Kennington | As the club has sold so many home grown players, it's inevitable that squad players will have to be brought in from abroad. It will be interesting if any of the new youngsters like Gape or even Reid will step up this season. As for this lad, like most I've never heard of him.

Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 18:24 - Jul 6 with 4864 views | ClickInsect | I just wanted to see the club improve quality & not just numbers. We didn't improve quality last season and even with the best intentions, if we manage to start the season without a weakened first eleven, minus Morgan & Toby we'd have done brilliantly. If Juanmi is the no .10 we were missing last season, we've paid 4m & he's actually a 10m player then great. But it's great for Kat & Ralph, not for the fans because to actually kick on we need to spend 15m on a player that's worth 25m. I just want to start next season, with the club spending somewhere in the region of what we should be doing as financially speaking, the 8th biggest club in the league. Top 10 would be great. Top 12 I'd take now. Just some hard indication that the club are targeting sporting success & not just operational efficiency. They need to make a net spend of at least 20m + & wages to support it.

Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 18:32 - Jul 6 with 4848 views | Chesham_Saint | I agree with yo Click, but what''so hampering our buying strategy at the moment is surely the fact that we still don'T Know if Morgan and Toby are going to be heroes or assholes (sadly, I expect the latter).

Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 18:32 - Jul 6 with 4844 views | SonicBoom | I guess he's known to Ron. He is going to be cover for Bertrand for a while and then another warm body for the squad. Did Bertrand just have the op? If it was a clean up that needed doing its odd he had it now instead of at the end of last season.
Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 18:44 - Jul 6 with 4824 views | 1885_SFC | Gutted for Ryan. How on earth is he going to be able to drive that crap motor of his now with 2 dodgy knees?...

Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 18:50 - Jul 6 with 4797 views | ClickInsect | You are right, which is why I'll hang fire because I could be pleasantly suprised. No reason to write the season off before we've even played a match! If you were going to make a best guess on what the club wants to do. Morgan would go out, that money would just about cover Toby & Clasie and then they'd spend 10m on Praet I think that would move us towards the top 10 on wages & would probably mean a net spend of about + 10m. Which will probably put us in the top 15 spenders. Assuming the press are right about targets & that first choices are available. If they aren't I assume we'll spend a lot less. The truth is, the squad is in a bit of a weird spot now, because it's filled with premiership quality players. But only a few "difference makers" that are good enough for a top six club. What we actually need to do, to break into the top bracket, is to sell the likes of Maya, Long, Pelle, Steven Davis & replace them with players in the 15m - 25m bracket. Intead we have to sell our players in that bracket and then shuffle the deck. My point being, that although I get frustrated. I do recognise how difficult it is to push on. Because I don't think you can get more from this quality of player than we have already. Sure the attack can improve, but the defence can't play that well again next season, it was practically perfect except for in goal. But if I had a vote on it, we'd sell the bench and replace it with the best kids & 2-3 players better than what we have. Then roll the dice. I wouldn't be signing this Martino lad, when we've got umpteen young defenders deperate for minutes. It's just 100% the wrong message and once again gives the lie than Ron cares about playing kids. He doesn't, he needs to stop giving the likes of Jason Mac, Turnball, Seager & Hesketh the expectation that they will play when in reality they'll be blocked by the quality of Durex, Gardos, Elia & Martina. Basically at some point, people at our club are going to have to stop talking shite.

Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 20:02 - Jul 6 with 4695 views | ClickInsect | Not for long, I haven't got the time, I'm drawing a logo for you. It's just one huge round circle, white around the edges with red in the middle. Your apparent fave colours. The fact that it resembles a prolapsed arsehole is probably a mere coincidence.

Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 20:04 - Jul 6 with 4696 views | Del_Bianco | He isn't. Koeman said we will be bringing him in and and further transfers will depend on what happens with Alderweireld and Schniderlin. [Post edited 6 Jul 2015 20:13]

Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 21:54 - Jul 6 with 4544 views | Matt_Finish | Martina not too shabby. He's a bit gangley but a decent player. Incidentally he comes from Curacao a small Dutch West Indies island nation with a legal open air brothel near the airport. Funny I'd have thought it would be too hot for broth
Cuco Martina about to arrive... on 09:51 - Jul 7 with 4403 views | dirk_doone | "1.5 million for Martina is approximately 1.4999999 million more than he is worth. What a super good news!" "If Cuco tonight puts his signature, is that the best action he has ever done for Twente." "Can someone pinch me please? I'm not sure if I am dreaming." "Most fans of FC Twente dislike him. ...he made some big mistakes last season and he has some difficulty to pass a ball to a teamm." "Four million for Cuco Clown, hahaha !!!" "Martina. Bad influence in the locker room." "Hehehe" "None 4 million then, but 1.5 is still a ridiculous amount for this flap turd." "Now such a laughable amount for deadwood Ebecilio and my summer can not go wrong!" Twente fans seem to rate him about as highly as Celtic fans rated Hooiveld: a weak link in their team that needed replacing. They cannot believe their good luck in not only managing to get rid of him but also actually getting money for him. I'll be very surprised if he rises above Gardos in the pecking order at Southampton. http://www.voetbalzone.nl/doc.asp?uid=249823 [Post edited 7 Jul 2015 11:15]
