Because the majority of fans on the internet are absolute helmets. Clearly he's been signed as a squad player to give us cover in several positions. I'm not really sure what they were expecting to get for a second choice right back and fifth choice centre back. Still lets all bitch and moan about him before he's even kicked a ball. A squad is made up of lots of different types of players, who all have different roles. Some are nailed on first choice, some come in to specific games to do a job, some are back up in case we get injuries and some are trying to build or rebuild a reputation.
They are not all going to be first name on the teamsheet. That squad is built little by little by improving the overall quality of the squad not by buying two or three star players.

Of course it is Dirk and everyone is entitled to their opinion.
The point being that we all rightly lauded Ron for his management last season and his recruitment. So now he is buying a player that most have never heard of or seen play, yet you say that you can already spot he is "dead wood".
Surely Ron deserves some leeway. He has studied the player and knows him from before.
We have never heard of him and have listened to the opinions of other fans on the internet.

Absolutely agree we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. This looks like a classic punt by Saints. He played 33 times for Twente last year so no Mayuka at the same time only a 2 year contract, it's not beyond the realms of possibilities that Ron and his team can get the best out of him. He is what he is at the moment a low priced risk who most on here know F-all about. Bit like our Italian international when he arrived last year who was at that point not an Italian international. | |

For 1m or so hardly a risky signing, and here's hoping he'll prove his dutch doubters wrong. Good news strengthening the squad with a specialist right back, because having either Yoshida or Alderweireld there last season as back ups stunted our attacking play. There will (hopefully) be a lot more games next season and if the Koemans and the Black Box have faith in him so do I. | | | |

Not sure why they saying he is cover for Bertrand , surely it's TArgets turn to shine. Good point about another dedicated right back though , yoshida and Toby never shone there even though Toby is usually played at right back for Belgium. | |
