Remainder of the season consolidation? 16:43 - Jan 6 with 6576 viewsParlay

The impact of Bony leaving is going to be huge, it cannot be understated how much this will change our play, even down to our tactical approach. This will be incredibly hard to adjust to and I just hope the fans remain patient with on field matters as this is going to take some adapting. Partnerships and understandings are going to have to be forged over time like Siggy and Bony did.

I think instead of pushing on for top 6, our realistic target now must be just for a mid-table finish with anything higher as a bonus. We have got a lovely cushion in terms of points to cope with losing Bony and hopefully by next season we will be firing on all cylinders with our new starting striker.

No, read the thread is my suggestion.

I repeat. We are not talking about expected, we are not talking about should - we are talking of a ceiling to aim for.

We are on course for 55 points if we continue picking up 1.45points per game. To get 63 (a figure lisa has suggested would challenge for top 6) we would need 8 extra points.

So if you are asking me is it possible to repeat what we have done but turn 2 defeats and a draw into 3 wins - my answer is yes.

To win 12 games out of 18 then. That is exactly what you are saying. To get 8 points more than we have after our best ever start with one game less.

If we're talking targets then surely our 'target' is surely to win every game we play, then the table takes care of itself. To aim for a specific place in the table is in itself unambitious, so I don't really think the thread is worth the effort. Of course we won't win every game, but we go into each game with the target to win it.

As it happens I'd love it if we could achieve your 'aim', I don't think we'd have a cats chance in hell with Wilf or without so I don't see any purpose in arguing further, so I won't. If Wif stays (or not) and we end up top 6 (ie we win 12 out of 18), come back and say I told you so and I'll say great, well done, have a banana.

I'm out now. Life's too short.

where did I mention 63 points?

The only points I have mentioned as far a I can recall was saying 50 points would be a great achievement and we could try to target 8 to 10 more than we have had before which is (from memory) between 56 and 58 points?

Of course a game by game target is to win every game we play. But a seasons target isn't 114 points is it. Its vastly different, ans a slightly obtuse way of making a very sketchy point.

I completely disagree that a positional aim in the league is unambitious, 6th is a European place and not a random place in the table just like top 4 is as it equates to the champions league qualifications.

I dont know where you get 12 wins out of 18 from. Wont 9 wins 5 draws and 4 losses get us to the 63 point mark?

This is all rabble anyway and not anything to do with the thread.

I did request for you to read the thread again and still maintain that as the thread is not about a top 6 aim at all, and certainly isn't now Wilf wont be with us. I have maintained i think we will be top 8 - top 6 is a ceiling aim. My thread was suggesting that we should now expect whatever hopes we had to be knocked a bit as we find ourselves in a transitional period and asked if we have the patience and understanding as a fansbase to allow it.

Funnily enough, nobody has answered yet.
