I have watched every team now and I would say that most teams seem to be lacking a Proven Goal scorer. Problem is proven goal scorers tend to come in two varieties: 1) costing upwards of 20mil &/or astronomical wages or 2) proven at lower levels and costing less than 12mil. We got the latter. Long has prem experience and pelle scored for fun in the Dutch league. (there is a sub-category of course - the Osvaldo nutjob category).
Even under cortese we weren't going to buy a proven goal scorer of the type you mean. Not after the Osvaldo debacle. Long was no panic buy and neither was pelle. Long was a target in Jan apparently and Koeman wanted Pelle. They may not turn out to be worth the money but then how many players have that we have spent big money on over the last two years?
Many people feel lambert should have been our proven goal scorer this year and we let him go for a "paltry" 4mil...liverpool don't seem to see him as a good enough goal scorer...thats why they are spending 16mil on another risky acquisition.
Quite honestly I am not sure what people expect.

Yeah but for lukaku...see point 1...he was extremely expensive plus wages. And Remy failed two medicals at Liverpool. Teams obviously sign injured players if the doctors tell them its not too much of a problem. On Remy they were advised to pass...has to mean its a bit more serious.
I think we will see another winger in and a CF/AM type before the window shuts. There were a lot of problems yesterday but it does seem as if RK knows what they are.

I suspect that this time last year after struggling in the opening games you were saying that if we get a manager who had spent his entire managerial career struggling against relegation and sign players from the backwaters of Scotland then we were always going to struggle for a second season, or where you one of those that now claim they saw it all in the tea leaves from the moment pochettino arrived
Thought not so why not give the manager and team time to find their feet

I thought a draw was a very fair result yesterday. Some people forget that it was only the 2nd game of the season. It takes a few more games to reach full fitness & play exactly how the gaffer wants... let alone learn the strengths & weaknesses of half of your new team mates.
As regards a striker ; I can't see Koeman splashing out big bucks for one when we'll have Jay Rod coming back nearer Xmas.

Gallagher wasnt even on the bench must have been injured. I was thinking during the game that he should have been brought o would at least have done as well as Pelle, and would have run at the WBA defence which Pelle never did coz he cant turn...things had better improve quickly or this could turn out to be a disaster in the making pfff

For the simple reason that last season the club invested 30 m into the playing staff & this season they've taken 46m out. That's a shift of 72 m in the wrong direction. That's why the fans are pissed off Nick, not the ten guys on this forum that are attracted by your articles who find fault with success & now excuse failure like you. The fans that actually go to games, who are now taking things out on the team in a ridiculous fashion, because they are upset and frustrated.
You keep trying to make comparisons but you are utterly failing to address the most basic principle.
Scenario 1) We start with a side & spend 30 million on three new international players that people aren't sure are very good.
Scenario 2) We start with a team full of players coveted by the leagues top clubs. I sell five of them for a combined fee of 92m. I spend half of the money on replacements. Changing my the paper strength of my team from one full of top-four quality players, for those who I am unsure are good enough for the premier league.
Do you see the difference? The problem you have Nick is reality. People generally are not stupid. The papers aren't, pundits aren't & fans aren't. If they see a team losing all it's quality during the summer, the expectation is that it will struggle. When the team starts to struggle, the suspicion is confirmed and people get angry.
When Adkins was sacked the reaction to MoPo was very luke warm for the rest of the season. But we hadn't sold all our players & we were still looking to build, Cortese also had a record of being right. There are your differences.
Don't shatter the illusion. It was making me chuckle last night that these guys who haven't been to a match in seasons, were telling me it was impossible to use a mobile phone at half time. While again failing to talk about Saints or the point of the post. It was a nice tone of self-parody to leave me with fond wishes before I blocked them.
Honestly please don't tell them that you look around and everybody is on a phone at half time. Nor that to start a thread on UI and to send a text box, doesn't require a broadband landline and not a fairly weak 3G signal. They can just rank it alongside all the other whoppers they've come out with due to a collection of mental health issues. So far I'm Nicola Cortese, working for Nicola Cortese, working for a P.R company hired by Cortese, DOC, Bradley, at least two other guys off saintsweb, lying about attending a match (most of the posters can't believe that people turn up) & I'm sure a few others that I wasn't paying attention for. Ah and I'm a skate for celebrating when Southampton do good things, critising when they do something bad & showing independent thought by saying things like I don't think Luke Shaw will spend his career injured.
What an absolute bunch of fantasists, paranoid lunatics & sub-par intellects. It's actually pretty sobering to think about it. Going to find another board I think lads, you've won! I'm retiring the old ClickInsect handle........ but I can't promise I won't be back...... perhaps I was here all along! *takes out my false teeth and wiggles a worm at you all*
You could also have a range of t-shirts (2-5-10-20) for the amount of times you were witness to Click promising to never set foot on the forum again and then see him return Lazarus-style with his tail between his legs.
Although I find it a tiny bit odd that he chooses to spend his half time and immediately after full time not spending time with his mates but writing multi-page essays on a forum he claims he doesn't like and won't come back to.
But then I have season ticket and go to games, which is a doubtful benchmark of poor old Click.

Not that I really want to be seen as agreeing with click but I think calling the team average yesterday is an insult to average teams everywhere!
We were shockingly bad. West Brom were no better. But if we play like that evey week we will be relegated. The build up play was ponderous and indecisive. Passing was woeful, crossing worse. I have defended Pelle to some idiots on here because he wasn't as bad as people suggest - but he wasn't very bloody good either! Slow and predictable.
Biggest problem was lack of pace and creativity. No high press. Hardly any press at all in fact. I think there are decent players in the team so it will improve as confidence and complicity between the players improves. And if we bring some pace in from somewhere.
I also don't understand why Koeman says he decided to play for the point for the last 15mins. That's why he bought cork on apparently. What? Isgrove, Taider...game was screaming out for an injection of pace, a bit of drive and direct running. But Koeman decided to defend a point. At home. For 15mins. Sigh. I mean, maybe sensible, bit hardly inspiring.
Not sure I trust our new manager yet.

I see what you're saying there Vectis, but we need to remember that this isn't the same Saints side as last season - and it isn't the same manager either. These are very early days for the 'new-look' Saints, and as the next few weeks go by, I'm sure we will all see a much-improved side from the one that we witnessed yesterday.
The guts have been ripped out of the side with the summer departures. Some of the new lads - Tadic, Pelle, Taider & gardos - will take a little time to settle in to life in England and playing a different type of football to what they're used to.
I know yesterday was pretty dour, but it can only get better.

Spot on It's a completely new philosophy for us to get used to this season and I am not sure I like it The players dont seem to either quite yet It will be interesting to see if our new style helps us in games like next week away at wham where we always seemed to get turned over trying to play pass and move

And YOUR badge looks like it was designed by a Mullah high on dope - a star and crescent - what's that got to do with football? More like the national flag of Pakistan.
I bet you get the odd thicko from Luton or wherever rocking up to your dump expecting it to be a Sharia Law training centre, FFS. Probably be more entertaining than the shit served up by the universe's biggest fans' collective.
