Garry offered two year contract on 10:34 - May 4 with 1794 views | Musical_Swan | I agree, the recruitment process does, from the outside, look poor. Your second point is mute though, plenty of examples of long term managers keeping a squad fresh.

Garry offered two year contract on 10:34 - May 4 with 1794 views | waynekerr55 | My tuppence worth. Garry clearly has potential. He has overseen some cracking performances, most notably popping Benitez's Napoli over 2 legs which we would have won if we'd taken our chances. He's also had some lows with "tactical" naivety. Is the Premier League the place to do an accelerated apprenticeship? Probably not but let's remember that Garry hasn't recruited any players yet. Let's wait until July/August when the recruitment and backroom staff are finalised before we start to make any judgement on him.

Garry offered two year contract on 10:47 - May 4 with 1763 views | Shaky | Sure we have put in some good performances like Napoli, but on reflection many of those came early on in Monk's tenure. As I see it one of the disturbing things is that the level of performance has been deteriorating especially in recent games even thought the requisite points have come in. For example although I missed Villa I thought we were really poor against Newcastle and very lucky indeed to steal the points, and yesterday was just dire. And before all that there was WBA, Palace, Hull. . . You want to chuck out the basic tenets of decision making and wait for the end of preseason to make an objective assessment of Monk's prospects be my guest, but by then you are fully committed; not very clever is it?

Garry offered two year contract on 12:26 - May 4 with 1613 views | waynekerr55 | I should clarify that we, as outsiders with little knowledge cannot really judge, sorry Shaky I should have made that more clear It would be interesting to see what criterion have been used to make the decision and what the strategy in the short, medium and long term are. I think that perhaps we should cut the board some slack as they have undoubtedly been a unanimous success, and I'd also like to think that should anything untoward be going on that our trust (as a major shareholder) would certainly have major input to prevent any meglomainaism (is that a word ? ) which would damage the growth and development of the club over the next 5 years.

Garry offered two year contract on 14:17 - May 4 with 1541 views | libertine | don't know how much the opinions expressed on here represent the opinions of the whole fan base, is it proportional? I would really like to know why the board think that garrys the boy for the job. It might be that he has some big plans for the club which would settle our nerves but the manner in which the appointment has been granted is not at all professional much like the sacking of Michael L. I watched Sean Dyce Burnleys manager talk about things like this, he said that he told the board to come out and speak to the fans and tell them they were skint and as a result had to make certain decisions as a result the fans knew where they were. Maybe the board need to speak to the fans we don't want a situation like in Cardif or Newcastle with fans displaying flags, that really don't help the moral of the players on the field. I thought the trust had a proportional opinion into choosing players/managers etc.

Garry offered two year contract on 21:13 - May 4 with 1121 views | swancity | Huw Jenkins and the board have seen enough from Monk since February in terms of his management ability and potential, to be able to offer him a contract for two years. With the right support behind him, I am confident, having seen our team perform since February, that he will make a success of it. How we measure success though is open to debate. What are his expectations and targets for next season? To finish 17th or above? Will that satisfy fans and the board? It should but the bar was raised last season by Michael Laudrup, who appeared from the outside to lose some motivation this season, strangely. In football, the appointment of a manager will always be a gamble. Monk has 10 years at this club and knows it inside out. The chairman knows he is committed and can rally the troops and create the right atmosphere. Garry will need a good team around him as that can make a manager. If he can get that right we will be fine but we do need to make a lot of changes both on and off the pitch in readiness for next season.
