Criminals jailed for inciting racial hatred on 13:29 - Aug 21 by AnotherJohn | The Tories failed miserably to control the small boats and that probably cost them the election. Having said that, the promised returns that featured in articles today about Yvette Cooper's 14K in six months target, involved agreements with Albania, Iraq, Turkey, Nigeria and Pakistan that were all negotiated under the last government. We eagerly await new agreements arranged by the Labour government. We'll know they are working when the RoI starts squealing again about the crisis caused by migrants crossing from the UK. |
It’s just a start with a shedload of work ahead. But it does feel like the grown ups are finally in charge.

They haven't done anything yet, just big talk, and we all know talk is cheap for politicians of all parties. Let's just leave the back slapping for a while, and wait see how many are actually deported, after the human right lawyers, lefty politicians, ECHR and the "all refugees are welcome" brigade get stuck into the Labours ability/stomach to carry out their deportation plans.

Criminals jailed for inciting racial hatred on 13:39 - Aug 21 with 1104 views | theloneranger | "Pakistani authorities have arrested a man and charged him with cyber terrorism for his alleged role in spreading misinformation that led to rioting in the UK earlier this month, a senior police investigator said Wednesday. The suspect was identified as Farhan Asif, 32, a freelance web developer, said Imran Kishwar, deputy inspector general of investigations in Lahore, the capital of eastern Punjab province. The man is accused of spreading misinformation from YouTube and Facebook about the British teenage suspect in a stabbing attack that killed three girls and injured 10 other people July 29 at a Taylor Swift dance class in Southport. The false information claimed that the suspect was a recently arrived asylum-seeker and had a name that suggested the teenager was a Muslim." https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/uk-riots-pakistan-arrest-southport-m

You mention the leaving the back slapping for a while, why don’t you just leave the whinging for a while and wait and see how things pan out and what happens? Maybe Labour will do a poor job, maybe they’ll surprise people and ship a shed load out. It’s early days, Labour have been in power around 6 weeks and getting things done takes time. If they do a crap job, then they’ll cop it and tightly so. I was listening to James Cleverly earlier complaining about Labour, his party just made a total mess of managing immigration and allowed around 3.2m people in over the last 3 years which equates to a net increase of round 2m people. Sounds like you're the whinger. So we'll just have to wait and see if Labour can get over the hurdles of deportation that the conservatives couldn't, hopefully they can.

So what are saying? The judge has been ignoring sentencing guidelines and making up spurious decisions? There’s a massive difference between thinking the prescribed sentences are wrong and thinking a judge is biased.

The extract in the tweet came from a report in the National Review a conservative publication in the US. The actual incident the article refers to was the sentencing of a Shaun Reeves by Judge Tom Bayliss in February 2017 which was reported by Yorkshire Live around the same time. The judge’s comments makes it clear the judge thought the best way of rehabilitating the offender and protecting the community was through supervision and rehabilitation and other activities. I’d have thought that there’d have been pre sentence probation service reports on an offender accused of this type of offence - that’s normally par for the course. The judge would take any recommendations from that document into account when deciding on a sentence. Over and above that, is no mention of a CPS appeal against the sentence or in any subsequent search of the internet so I suspect we can assume from that other stakeholders such as the CPS and Police were relatively happy. I can’t see the judge ignoring sentencing guidelines to make it up as he goes along, looking at the comments I’d say he’s basing his decision on what he believes to be the best course of action to rehabilitate the offender and preventing him from reoffending in the future. The below are extracts from the newspaper reports. “Imposing an eight month prison sentence suspended for two years, Judge Tom Bayliss QC told him: “I don’t pretend for one moment to know what possesses someone like you to get sexual pleasure from watching children as young as three, or six or seven being raped because that is what you are watching.” “But he said the best way of stopping his behaviour and protecting the community was to ensure his supervision by the probation service. In addition to the suspended jail term he imposed 30 rehabilitation activity days and 200 hours unpaid work. Reeves must also register as a sex offender for 10 years.” [Post edited 21 Aug 23:01]

You seem to be saying that the judge exercised legitimate discretion within the envelope of the options allowed by the sentencing guidelines, as opposed to imposing a sentence that was wholly determined by those guidelines. Or did I misunderstand? A critic might therefore say that the judge had scope to exercise discretion in both cases, which I suppose is the starting point for the National Review article. The question then becomes whether that discretion was exercised in a way that made sense and amounted to an impartial application of the law. It seems hard to argue that outcomes depended only on the sentencing guidelines.

Whether it's the judge or the system, it's objectively insane. I hate butting in,.but our nations are historically intertwined, and the same legal/federal (national) law enforcement insanity is happening here in somewhat different forms.

I'd say he sounds like a realist. The Tories were too obsessed with stopping the boats than solving the subsequent problem. All because it's a decent sound bite. Rwanda was never going to work it was an obvious headline grabber that cost a fortune. Labour, in just six weeks have shipped some illegals out, appointed people to try to stop the gangs and are targeting obvious places illegals work. These are easy wins but the Tories were too useless to do anything about them. Too early for back slapping, but it's an obvious improvement.

I don't think this is a fair comparison though, it's clearly click bait to annoy the right. A fair comparison would be Samuel Melia's sentence with that of an islamic extremist who has the same multi year history of incitement. The paedophilie should have been sent to prison though. Just looked in to Sam Melia a little more, he deliberately targeted his racist stickers along school routes for kids to read. This article is just more incitement. [Post edited 22 Aug 7:50]

Very simply, anyone raping a three tear old does not deserve to live a moment longer . The fact we seek to rehabilitate in itself shows a deep sickness in our society . We are allowing our toddlers to be at risk of rape Think on that Forget those who seek pleasure of this pursuit. There is no rehabilitation for anyone this inclined . There is no justice for any toddler as it is. Those of you who have a tgree year old, look at him or her ,next time they see you .. Really ,look at them

Nobody is saying that the evil git who committed the crime of having those images didn’t didn’t deserve to do time. The point that I (and others) are trying to make is putting two completely unrelated crimes together because you don’t agree with the sentences as using it as proof of a bent judiciary is just reductive. It proves nothing. This isn’t helped by the likes of GeeBeeBees calling rioters, police attackers and arsonists, carers, veterans. The way the reported on the scum who was behind the ‘sick of it’ account was disgusting. They shouldn’t be allowed to have the work new in their title.

And I am commenting on the Judges remarks ,directly . “ serving time” when they should be put down as they are rotten and beyond natural human behaviour I believe that no child should be at possible risk at all from these people. They are sick, perverted and beyond redemption. They damage victims for life The victims life,in many cases ,is over. We tolerate these people and care for them in prison . Barristers defend 5em,Howard League look after their interests and appeal for them. We look to “ rehabilitate” when we should be simply eradicating them. Our society is showing exactly what 60 years of soft touch has done

This is a big job and we (and I mean the British public) have to have the right person in place to get the job done on our behalf. Recruitment processes normally take a couple of months to sort out, advertising, interviewing, referencing, vetting takes time. The alternative options including head hunting also take time. I suppose they could always go down the route of appointing an old mucker, but then we’d have allegations of jobs for the boys which they’d quite rightly get stick for. Let’s give them a reasonable amount of time to get someone tidy in.
