Criminals jailed for inciting racial hatred on 08:19 - Aug 17 by AnotherJohn
I'm still wondering if the 53 year old suburban housewife who made the stupid remark about blowing up the mosque on Facebook, resulting in an accelerated court appearance and a 15 months jail sentence, is in a higher risk category than others who are let out on bail. Some commentators are comparing her case with that of a known Islamist activist from Leicester bailed yesterday at the Old Bailey.
It’s really hard to offer an objective comment because we don’t have enough detail in relation to what this guy has actually done, and we’ll have to wait for the trial to hear what’s happened.

Wasn't the decision to offer bail taken on the basis of the information available at the time of yesterday's court hearing (i.e. a trial)?

He was initially Charged and bailed in early July, this is a follow up appearance at Court, unless something has changed radically I can’t see why the Court would change the earlier decision re bail.

Well, the chronology is that Majid Novsarka, who also uses the alias Freeman, was charged and bailed by Leicester police on 9th July after an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands. Due to controversy about his political activities in Leicester, partly in relation to support for a pro-Palestine candidate in the general election, Novsarka was sent for trial in London, and he appeared before Westminster Magistrates Court on July 24th. The prosecution stated that on various dates between 26 December 2023 and 20 June 2024, he expressed an opinion or belief supportive of Hamas, which is a proscribed terror organisation, and that on March 11th 2024 he made posts on Instagram and X regarding the Charlie Hebdo attack that “intended members of the public to be directly or indirectly encouraged, or otherwise induced, by the statement to commit, prepare or instigate acts of terrorism”. He then appeared at Crown Court on August 16th, in this case the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales (the Old Bailey), where he will appear again in November. While either court could have changed the original bail conditions, it is true neither apparently felt this was necessary. However, the background to the case, with involvement of specialist anti-terror police and alleged multiple offences, seems significantly more serious than Julie Sweeney's stupid but isolated Facebook post. I suppose this is reflected in the fact that Novsarka is in Crown Court. I can see why people are asking why Sweeney is such a threat she needs immediate imprisonment, while Novsarka does not present a significant risk and is free until November (except for restrictions on social media use).

Thank you.
I’m not saying I agree with the actions of the Court or the police, I am just offering an opinion based on my interpretation of the information available in the public domain and some experience gained in a previous life.
Lots if posters going in about 2 tier justice, 2 tier Kier etc which in most cases is untrue - the Secret Barrister addressed this in the excellent article Gwyn posted earlier in the week. After the 2011 riots, there was a clamber for tougher sentences to deal with the offenders, the lesson Starmer learnt from his role as the DPP wasn’t tougher sentences, but swifter justice which is what we’re seeing today. Sentencing someone 6 months down the line won’t stop the copy cats, but when they see people going down almost straight after the event and for some decent porridge then they will make most people think twice.

I can handle the opinions of others. I might not like them and they make make me uneasy or question myself That can be good thing though and we need to analyse ourselves and adjust if we can . Intelligent people are often afraid to tell the truth for fear of offending the stupid .

No you can't. You cannot handle opinions or facts that contradict yours

The suspects who’ve been charged by the police were all denied bail and remanded to appear at Court the next day. They were then further remanded in Custody and are being held in prison pending the next stage of their journey through the criminal justice system. So far their experience mirrors the experiences of the “rightwing rioters.”
I’d expect these individuals to get some serious porridge, at least on par with the rioters who went down for violent disorder, but some of these will get more possibly even 5 or 6 years.

Why not simply give them the Cat or bitch or simply horsewhip them. They could then be released straight away albeit scarred for life This is scum we are talking about. Nobody should give a monkeys about them.
Can you imagine having your new leccy car switched off for going over with your carbon footprint? Bank account frozen for trying to purchase chocolate whilst a few kegs overweight. banned from flying as punishment for having a pop at the government?
No neither can I, but you better get used to it as it is coming ....coming very soon.
Chinese social credit system, coming to a doorstep near you very soon.

Solicitor just been on bleeding for her “ clients” being inconvenienced by being transferred to custody around the country. Top top.Dont do crime
Also Howard League very cincerned about prisoner welfare .
Do do it then
100% agree with you. Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.
I’ve got no sympathy for the people being sent down, they’ve brought it on themselves. Nothing wrong with lawful protest, but kicking off and causing trouble is completely unacceptable. I think it also sends a positive message out to the police officers who were bricked and assaulted during the protests, it can’t have been pleasant taking the brunt of the violence but it must be comforting to know the offenders are getting sent down.
That said, the NPCC commanders whose actions or inactions exulted in the officers being beaten etc also need to be held to account.

Disproportionate as it is black against black on big cities. It’s slaughter of the streets. How are police going to seize weapons ? By asking nicely

Its the difference between making a lot of noise to pretend you’re being ‘tough’ and actually doing something.

The Tories failed miserably to control the small boats and that probably cost them the election. Having said that, the promised returns that featured in articles today about Yvette Cooper's 14K in six months target, involved agreements with Albania, Iraq, Turkey, Nigeria and Pakistan that were all negotiated under the last government. We eagerly await new agreements arranged by the Labour government. We'll know they are working when the RoI starts squealing again about the crisis caused by migrants crossing from the UK.
