RIP 5 Souls On Titanic Submersible Craft 01:11 - Jun 21 with 21553 viewsCLAREMAN1995

I was holding out hope that all 5 people on board will be found and rescued despite the oxygen window closing.
That was until I met a cave diver by pure accident today on a construction site and he crushed my spirit .
If by some miracle the submersible craft makes it to the surface the crew cannot open the rescue hatch from inside .Its bolted shut and can only be opened from outside he mentioned .
Hope they make it because thinking of them inside knowing its over for 3 days is beyond cruel.
Sorry for the downer thread.Hope they are rescued by the time we wake up

Just got home from work watched the coast guard presser and know its over but at least they died instaniously if that helps the families .RIP

Hope these people will be ok but a word or two of sympathy about the hundreds missing in the trawler off the coast of Greece would be nice. RIP.

Exactly this.

The optics on two potentially awful events couldn't be more stark. Both serve to illustrate that we are all mere human beings regardless of status and all equally vulnerable.

Here's hoping for a more favourable outcome than in the truly tragic trawler incident.

If it wasn't such a lash up of a contrivance you probably wouldn't need a cable.
Captain Nemo did 20,000 leagues without one.

Indeed. 750 people drown off the coast of Greece and its headline news for a day. 5 people including a couple of billionaires in a sub and we're into day 3 of it dominating the news across the world.

Don't get me wrong, its tragic and terrifying. But at the same time its hard to understand why this is so much more important than everything else tragic going on at the mo. That's before going into the minefield of why anyone would want to pay 250k to visit a mass grave miles down in the sea. I think it's possible to both be saddened by this situation and hope they are found, but also wonder if maybe there are sadder things happening in the world and better uses of money.

As for the domination of the headlines by this story - made me think of Black Mirror's Lock Henry, which I saw just last night. Makes one wonder a lot about media and society.

When they make the film of this. Back To The Titanic. Leonardo Di Caprio plays the inventor of the submersible. Kate Winslet plays Marina the mute watery nymph who saves them. Before reaching the surface they have to battle with the orcas that sabotaged the vessel in the first place. Soundtrack by Enya.

The transatlantic cable was made up of 2 ships carrying 1,500 mile of cable (meeting in the middle and splicing them together) in the mid 19th century so it shouldn't be beyond the wit of man in this day and age to cable something up for a few miles below sea surely?

Well for context, the sub is nearly 2.5 miles down, which is roughly 13,000 feet. The shard is just over 1,000 feet in height, so this sub is over 13 times further down than the height of the shard.

Not sure any amount of engineering can create a rope like that, particularly one which can be transported on a sea vessel, and which has the tensile strength to hoist a 10 tonne submarine.

If I am paying £250,000 each to sit on the floor of a tin can controlled by a SNES controller then I would have asked/expected them to have invested in some sort of retrieval apparatus.

Sexy Asian dwarves wanted.

Play silly games
Get silly prizes

You couldn’t pay me a billion to get in a metal tube and go 2 miles under the sea

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Does anybody else think that it’s ghoulish to want to go to see the wreck of the Titanic?

As bongo_king said, it’s a mass grave.

SNES lol that is exactly what I thought of that controller.

It’s crazy that some experts have said that the lighting inside was purchased from a camping shop and it really does look like it’s been put together in someone’s back garden as a project

What a horrible accident this is and am keeping fingers, toes, and whatever else firmly crossed. As a severe claustrophobe this makes me panic even thinking about it just sitting at the computer.
There's a fleet of specialist equipment racing to the scene as we speak but it's looking grim - nobody's effected a rescue before from that far down before. It may be that the sub will join the Kursk and the USS Thresher.

It's a terrible situation, I am praying for a positive outcome.

One difference to the Kursk situation is that the Kursk had been deliberately engineered for stealth. It's hull was rubber coated, to evade detection. That meant massive problems when it got into difficulty

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

They're almost certainly dead. Look at this bullshit and tell me it looks like a legit vehicle for deep water exploration.

They've died in a toilet barrel. Still, it's like they say about Everest. It's full of the bodies of highly motivated people.

F**k all that. Stay where it's safe. Go and see the Titanic? F**k out of here with that shit.
