Venezuela - a reality checks 23:13 - May 21 with 17440 views | jackrabbit | I don't know if you've been keeping an eye on Venezuela? It is a socialist regime much lauded by Mr Corbyn as an example of what we should aspire to. Well yes, if you fancy hyperinflation, a worthless currency and empty shelves in shops and supermarkets - how do fancy queuing for hours to buy toilet rolls? In short, this socialist paradise is a modern day catastrophe. Venezuela is yet another example of the folly that is socialism. The thing is, it's nothing new. We were used to hearing these stories in the latter half of last century, when half of Europe was living the 'Socialist Dream' under the Soviet boot heel. The only thing that changes is that yet another starry-eyed generation of young people have to see for themselves and suffer the disillusion that comes from experience. TheVenezuelan experience will never be repeated in Britain because for all its faults the British electorate will never vote into power a pair of Trotskyite zealots like Corbyn and McDonnell. Here's a flavour: "Many Venezuelans have already left the country, including Francisco Flores..... The NHS therapist, who now lives in London, says the regime is based on a principle of keeping everyone “equal but poor”. This way, the state becomes a nanny and everyone loses the power to do anything because they are so dependent on it. Venezuela is now suffering from the effects of a deep recession and hyperinflation as the government prints money to try to plug a gap between revenues and spending that is on course to hit 25pc of gross domestic product (GDP) next year." Pure Corbynism. [Post edited 21 May 2016 23:18]

Venezuela - a reality checks on 18:19 - May 24 by Brynmill_Jack | US central bank, or is it the federal reserve??? Are they the same thing?? |
It's "The Federal Reserve Bank." I was just acting the gadfly by asking the question. Aside: Most people -- including most Americans -- do not know that "The Fed" is NOT owned or operated by the "federal government." Like all [I think it's all] "central banks" by whatever name, it is privately-owned. Most people also don't know the enormous power the "central banks" wield, or the profits they make, or the completeness of their independence from outside. Certain members of Congress have been trying to get an audit of the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank for years, but have been stonewalled. There is no obligation on the part of "The Fed" to allow an audit, and no right of oversight on the part of the government. When the whole financial bucket of shit gets dumped on the people of the world, it will be the central banks who will do it, and they will not lose one penny, and governments will collapse in ruins while the "central" banks survive and rule more openly than they do now. So let's all of our governments keep borrowing and spending, why don't we? As one of my Yiddish-speaking friends once taught me, Gelt ist die Welt."

The Fed also introduced income taxes so the money you earn which has been lent to the monatery system by the fed (which they magically produced from thin air) at a rate of interest is taxed too. Talk about win win !

Always amusing to read the old 'The Rothschilds own all the central banks' type stuff. Not remotely true of course. Because when you say 'all (I think it's all), central banks are privately owned' it ignores the fact that they aren't. The Bank of England is publically owned as are the central banks of France, Germany etc etc. I'm not certain without checking, but I can't think of a European Central Bank that isn't publically owned. Indeed, it's more true to say that the Fed is the anomaly. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

If someone says anything about Islam they're an islamophobic disgusting racist. It's levels of outrage, Muslims tend to be poorer than Jews and therefore require attention. We'll excuse homophobia and sexism in Islamic culture, but any white man who utters anything remotely sexist or homophobic is a bigot who deserves derision and should be fired. It's like a sickness. |
Is there any evidence for "Muslims tend to be poorer than Jews" apart from the ancient lazy stereotype that all Jews are sly and covetous and rolling around on piles of gold purring like Smaug the dragon?

Do you twist everyone's words, or just mine? I did not write or even imply what you attribute to me in your first sentence. Your practice of doing that offends me. I wrote that all central banks are privately owned, and went on to point out that the U.S. government does not own The Fed or have any control over it. Nor do the governments of any other central bank. Even a corporate entity that is owned by a "public corporation" or a "publicly-traded corporation" is privately owned, as opposed to one owned by the government.

If you didn't mean to imply it then why did you refer to your Jewish ooops Yiddish speaking friend giving the quote "Money is the world"? Why would his ethnicity ooops language used possibly be relevant to the quote unless there was a meaning you wanted to imply just didn't want to say outright?

You said all (or almost all) central banks are privately owned. That is incorrect. The Bank of England is publically owned, as is every other European Central Bank I can think of. Not by a public corporation, publically traded corporation or anything similar, but publically owned. As an example, the Bank of England was nationalised in 1946 after the end of the Second World War so has been in public hands for 70 years now. Under the last Labour government the control of the Bank of England was passed to the Treasury solicitor to ensure that areas such as setting of interest rates were somewhat removed from political interference but it remains completely publically owned. The Fed is unusual in its structure but even so, your repeated assertion that the US government does not 'have any control over it' is strange since the Board of Governers is a Federal agency and the governors are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate. In addition, the profits generated are returned to the U.S. treasury (except for a dividend). PS - I understand different types of corporate ownership, no need to explain them to me.

Since when? You said Moslems tend to be poorer than Jews and when someone asked what evidence there was for that you said 'are you serious' and then mentioned the 'Rich List'. Your sudden change from 'money' to 'entrepreneurship' has only come because you've realised that you forgot about all the rich as Croesus Arab states.

It wasn't even slightly mocking. It was pointing out that you were incorrect in your assertion, repeated in a later post, that 'all central banks are privately owned'. I even gave you an example of our own central bank to be helpful.
